When the season started at Kayserispor I thought this might be a one-season stop gap while I found a better job in Europe. Now I'm more into staying there for at least a couple more seasons.

also, I usually like to have CB's taller than 6'0" but I'm thinking of making an exception for this guy at Newport this summer (note I'm using 1/7/16 rosters)

thoughts? Keep in mind 3 seasons in his OVR is probably a bit higher and that my budget at Newport is super small.

The first thing that jumped out at me was his High attacking work rate. 6'0" isn't bad and his good jumping kind of makes up for a couple of inches.

He has great potential though and if you have the cash, why not?

Agree with this, also wanted to add that 65 rated YA player is so sick.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

Yea thanks guys the more I think about it the more obsessed I am with bringing him in. It's gonna be tough because the club have said they want 4.3 million euros for him and my transfer budget this season was 1 million so next season I might be lucky to get 1.5. Gonna need to sign up for the highest paying preseason tourney and maybe even throw in a player AND hope some other club doesn't beat me to him while I'm collecting the funds lol. That high jumping rating offsets that he's only 6'0".

Cruzerr, just one of those rare prospects that's already in the 60's when you sign him to the academy. Alonso was the same back at Dorados I didn't promote him till he was at 70 and by then he was immediately the highest-rated defender on the senior roster lol.

That stamina. His pace isn't too bad for his position while those passing stats are great! Maybe train him on dribbling and ball control?

you're killing me. You played the diamond but used it more like a 4-3-1-2 with 3 defensive midfielders then noted you weren't pleased with the passing ... hm, I wonder why. And if you're not really putting midfielders out wide then yes your fullbacks are gonna have to put in some work. Obviously I don't get to see the whole game but you could see Payet shine in that CAM role in that first game. He was a goner in your 2nd game when you ran the 4-4-2 flat and I wonder if you missed having that CAM. You have a real concern with Dybala not being much a scorer on headers but I think Lacazette's ratings make him an overall scoring treat if you aren't too set on him being only 5'9". Either way I think you saw a two-striker formation can give both your star forwards a lot of scoring opportunities but after seeing you play 3 CDM's in a diamond I am beyond convinced you're way too conservative to get that aggressive on offense and I foresee you're going to continue with the 4-2-3-1

Side note: don't settle for 21.5 from Chelsea. I think you could get 25 but if you're nervous about missing out maybe just do 24. Goretzka is easily worth 25 where he's at right now.

Pretty much all of this, but I think an easy fix is that you just keep playing the diamond, but get one of the more passing type of players. I like, out of that list, or I can recommend, Bonaventura is honestly fantastic, but Roberto and Özyakup (haven't really tried him but he looks good) are also great for the job.

(Are me and Rabbit on the Payet train?)

As for strikers, if you really do want to play 4-4-2 flat, might try on moving Lacazette slightly lower, a SS/CF position? He could connect with the offense and feed Dybala.

With three games in eight days Marccelino had to pick a game to play his B-squad in and this match-up against relegation candidate York City was it. Unfortunately the B-squad did not give their A effort and paid the price on a gorgeous free kick by Michael Coulson in stoppage time. It's amazing that Hunt played a full game for The Exiles given the injury he suffered in the fifth minute and he has to be lucky that he'll only be sidelined for a week.

                                League Match 30

                                Ambrose 7' (pen)

An early penalty kick by Ambrose would be all The Exiles would need and get to beat their former League Two opponents at Rodney Parade. On a night with heavy rain it was the home side that created a good number of opportunities (10 shots, seven on goal) but had little to show for.

                                League Match 31
                                Barnsley - Newport County (2-4)

                                Ambrose 48' (Odubajo)
                                Thuram 77' (In Beom)
                                Ambrose 90+' (pen)

                                Mawson 90+' (double yellow)

Thierry Ambrose is taking Newport County to another level. We're not talking about the Championship here. Before this game it would had been difficult to sale the idea that The Exiles would be able to come back from an early 0-2 deficit but that's exactly what they did in this game and by the time they were done, led by yet another Ambrose hat-trick, they had scored twice as many goals as their opponent ON THE ROAD for an impressive victory against a team fighting for a playoff spot.

                                Ambrose did it again.

                                League Match 32
                                Newport County - Colchester (2-0)
                                Giles 23' (Ambrose)
                                Gordon 60' (Ambrose)

                                Ince 55'

Ambrose showed he can be versatile and became a facilitator to, along with the defense, lead The Exiles to a third consecutive victory. The visiting team fired 10 shots (six on target) but Emiliano Martinez and his defense were up to the test. Now, tell us if you have seen this from Jack Giles before:

                                B. Moore 7' (Bruised elbow, out 5 days)
Thuram 24' (Broken collarbone, out 3 months)

The Exiles pushed their winning streak to four but obviously the most notable outcome of this game is the injury to Marcus Thuram who is likely done for the season. Anyone who has followed Newport County this season knows that the 20-year old striker from France has arguably been the team's MVP and his loss will be significant to the club. Furthermore, this injury halts the young player's progress heading into next season when the level of competition is likely to increase. Academy graduates Patrick Miller and Kjetil Ringdal Støvland are next in line at the position and it'll be interesting to see how Marccelino distributes the playing time between them the rest of the season.

                                League Match 34
Luton Town - Newport County (1-2)
                                Marriott 48'
                                Gordon 59' (Ambrose)
                                Ambrose 63' (Ince)

Ambrose once again led The Exiles to a come-from-behind victory to push Newport's winning streak to five, a well deserved win for a club that had three times as many shots and shots on goal as its opponent.

                                League Match 35
                                Newport County - Portsmouth (3-1)
                                Blackett 36' (Gordon)
                                Bennett 83'
                                In Beom 85' (B. Moore)
                                B. Moore 90+' (P. Miller)

Winter acquisition Hwang In Beom picked a GREAT time to score his first goal for the club to lead The Exiles to yet another win, pushing the winning streak to six games. In Beom, who regularly plays off the bench subbing for Clark Gordon, scored this scorcher from outside the box:

                                League Match 36
                                Peterborough - Newport County (1-5)
                                Ringdal Støvland 16' (Parker)
                                James 20'
                                Gordon 53' (Parker)
                                Parker 64' (Potter)
                                P. Miller 74' (Fernandes)
                                P. Miller 79' (Ringdal Støvland)

Newport County is officially ON FIRE. Playing their third game in nine days Marccelino opted to play a mix of the A and B squads but their rhythm seem unfazed as they pushed their winning streak to seven by destroying Peterborough on the road. It was a coming out party for Devante Parker, a loanee from FSV Mainz 05 who hasn't gotten a lot of opportunities to show his skills this season, but he was in groove from the get-go in this game collecting one goal and two assists. Oddly enough Ambrose was not able to connect for any of the goals and as soon as he was subbed out by Miller the Irishman scored twice in five minutes. Go figure.

                                League Match 37
Newport County - Rotherham Utd (5-2)
                                Binnom-Williams 29' (Gordon)
                                Ambrose 35' (pen)

                                Ward 45+'
                                Ince 51' (Gordon)
                                Frecklington 77'
                                Dall'Oglio 79' (Giles)
                                B. Moore 88'

                                Maguire 32'
                                B. Moore 32' (Sprained ankle, out 3 weeks)

EN FUEGO! Eight game winning streak. 10 goals over their last two games. The Exiles are just abusing League One nowadays and this time around they did it against a team contending for direct promotion to the Championship. We know one team that is all but locked into promotion and that's Newport County who were so good in this game we had to bring you not just one but two highlights:

You can't fully appreciate it here but Ince stops the cross with his chest dropping it straight into his killer volley.

Maguire's tackle as the last man in defense inside the box on Moore resulted not just in a red card for him but also on a sprained ankle for Moore who somehow played the full game which allowed him to score that beauty of a free kick.

                                League Match 38
Newport County - Notts County (3-3)
                                Ambrose 2'
                                Ince 7' (Potter)

                                Spencer 30'
                                Campbell 60'
                                In Beom 78' (Potter)
                                De Silva 89'
                                In Beom 86'

A preview of the upcoming match-up in the JPT final resulted in an exciting draw that stopped The Exiles' winning streak (which now becomes an undefeated streak). Ambrose stole the ball soon after the kickoff to put Newport ahead then Ince doubled the lead inside of 10 minutes heading a corner kick from Ben Potter into the net. But the visitors weren't about to gift the home team any kind of mental edge before their big game and twice evened up the score including De Silva's goal in the 89th minute which ricocheted off two defenders on its way to the back of the net. Next time this teams meet, in six days, they won't be able to finish the game on a draw.

Marccelino's Diary: So much to comment on. First and foremost has to be the form we've been in, I think our performances have really all but locked our promotion to the Championship next season and we're in real good shape to please the board and win the league title. It's surreal that after just a bit over two months with the club Ambrose already has as many goals as Thuram has had all season and is only seven off the lead held by Driussi who has played in the league all season. I can't fully describe how excited I am for Ambrose to help us compete in the Championship next season. Thuram's injury was a really sour note to this season because of the form he had been in since pre-season for us. As pleased as I've been with his performances this season I've known he's needed to progress every bit as much as he's had in order to reach his top potential going into next season. The board aren't fully sold on the idea of him being a starter in the Championship and this derail in his development isn't going to help me help him. Business can be a cold thing.

In the previous update I mentioned we had sent scouts out to Italy, Belgium, and Netherlands and that has resulted in some additions to our academy so here's the updated youth squad:

                                - Doke Boëtius (CDM, 56 OVR, 72-94 POT)*: 16-year old from Netherlands who joins a crowded group of youngsters at CDM (Dall'Oglio, Ichigawa, Kagome). He'll need to be patient and work hard in the academy.
                                - Willem Van Hout (RB, 45 OVR, 71-94)*: 15-year old from Belgium who is extremely raw. However, we like that he exhibits such raw potential at such a young age so we'll work on developing him.
                                - Satoshi Kagome (CDM, 50 OVR, 78-84): 17-year old from Japan who is physically strong. Coaches will look to develop him into more than just a defensive stopper.
                                - Yoshi Ishinomori (CM, 49 OVR, 77-83): 18-year old from Japan who is a commanding physical presence standing at 6'5" and 189lbs and the club will try to develop his skill set to quickly match his physical abilities.
                                - Eiichi Suzuki (GK, 61 OVR, 76-82): The 16-year old from Japan represents the second keeper signed by the club and will battle with his countryman, Hayato Matsuki, to become the club's main backup goalkeeper.
                                * Recent addition.

On a last note, the last couple pre-WC friendlies didn't yield encouraging results as we lost in Italy 1-4 (Balotelli scored a hat-trick inside 30 minutes in a 19-minute span) and then managed a 2-2 draw against Denmark at home. I'm nervous yet excited about leading Finland into the World Cup in a couple of months.

                                Thanks for reading
