    FIFA 16 - Season 3

    The Blades

    December 2017

    Bournemouth 1 - 1 Sheffield United
    BOU - Lopez 87'
    SHU - Albrighton 45'
    MOTM: Allsop

Match Summary: Cameron sent a corner into the box on the near post and Albrighton was there to head it down into the ground which created enough confusion for the keeper that he wasn't able to handle it and it went into the back of the net. Bournemouth equalized with a corner of their own when Lopez rose up on the near post and flicked the ball across to the far post with time running out.

    Sheffield United 1 - 3 West Brom
    SHU - Woolford 85'
    WBA - Evans 45', Rondon 54', Sessegnon 60'
    MOTM: Myhill

Match Summary: Arslan sent a corner in from the right and Evans met it on the near post and the ball hit off the keeper's hands but still went over the line. Rondon sent his defender the wrong way and he took the open shot to beat the keeper into the top left corner. Gonzalez crossed it in from the right and Sessegnon ran in unmarked the power his header past the keeper. Wallace put Woolford through on the right side and he hit his shot low across his body into the bottom left corner.

    Capital One Cup Quarter Final
    Manchester City 4 - 0 Sheffield United
    MCI - Roberts 6', Clichy 32', Kroos 62', Sterling 67'
    MOTM: Clichy

Match Summary: Roberts got the ball in the middle and turned around Brayford to place his shot easily into the bottom left corner. Clichy got the ball on the left side of the box and ran uncontested at the goal to power a shot across to the far post to double the lead. Clichy played a ball into the box and Toure dummied the ball leaving it for Kroos to hit first time into the top right corner. Clichy found Sterling running in on the left and he beat the keeper on the near post to sum up the embarrassment that this entire match was.

    Manchester City 1 - 4 Sheffield United
    MCI - Bony 74'
    SHU - Townsend 45', 78', 81', 85'
    MOTM: Townsend

Match Summary: Townsend stood over a kick from just outside the box and he hit it at the wall but he found a gap that had opened up and it squeezed through and settled in the back of the net. Silva sent a corner to the back post and El Ghazi headed it off the crossbar where it rebounded straight to Bony who easily put it into the goal for the equalizer. Townsend stood over another free kick from almost the exact same spot and with his next kick of the ball he curled it over the wall and into the top right corner. Just 3 minutes later Townsend got the ball on the right and used his body to hold off Otamendi as he attacked the goal and powered a shot past the keeper on the near post to complete his hat trick. It turned out he wasn't done at 3. Dickenson got free down the left and saw Townsend running at the back post and he slid the ball across for him to tap it in on the open goal.

    Sheffield United 1 - 0 Arsenal
    SHU - Cameron 79'
    MOTM: Cameron

Match Summary: In a truly defensive performance for both sides, no was able to separate themselves until late in the game. With just 11 minutes to go, Cameron got the ball on the left and beat his man to get around the edge and rather than send a cross in he cut inside himself and worked his way to the middle before using his right foot to power a shot past the keeper into the right side of the goal.

    Swansea City 1 - 1 Sheffield United
    SWA - Lucas 88'
    SHU - Abraham 70' (PEN)
    MOTM: Fabianski

Match Summary: Williams slid to try to win the ball just as Freeman entered into the box and he missed the ball and took him down to concede the penalty. Abraham stepped up and buried his shot into the top left corner. Dickenson made a horrible mistake when instead of heading the ball clear, he headed it back towards his own goal where Williams tried to send it across but the keeper dove out and pushed it away only to see it fall right to Lucas for the easy shot into the open net.

    Sheffield United 0 - 1 Southampton
    SOU - Gape 59'
    MOTM: Brennan

Match Summary: Harris got the ball inside his own box with the attackers all around and rather than clear it he tried to turn up field and push the ball forward. Gape took the ball away from him and poked it to Long but Nugent slid to push it away from him only to see it fall right back to Gape and he placed the ball around Harris and into the left side of the goal on their only shot on target for the entire match.

    F.A. Cup
    Sheffield United 0 - 0 Peterbrough United
    MOTM: Alnwick

Match Summary: Alnwick came up big time after time with his saves and really was instrumental in keeping his club in the game. He even got a bit of luck when Ntlhe conceded a penalty and Abraham saw his shot clash off the post in a disappointing performance from the striker.

Hahaha thanks man! Good to be back! I did go back to read it and I can't believe you've kept the Betis career going! Respect man. You've got tremendous talent on the field (Harry Kane migrated to Spain like Bale what what!) but only one goalkeeper? Granted that's a quality keeper you got there but what's going to happen when he gets injured in training? Hope I don't jinx it... Lol oh and I demand details on that Malaga fixture! Details!

I fixed the GK thing in the January window so that's no longer an issue. I am not giving any details of that Malaga game because it causes me to cringe. But I will say this : it was 0-0 at halftime.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

OK!, hope all are doing well!, time for a bit of career mode catch up and thoughts!...if i've missed you i'll get you in the next one!

texas - To begin, Well done on the promotion!..A good win over West Brom in the F.A cup! Quarter finals but unlucy to go down too Sunderland especially having 88 minutes to try and catch up that early Sunderland goal!, you worked your way into top 6 contention nicely!, what a rollercoaster that match against Middlesborough would have been!...I liked the signing of Marc Albrighton, I like him as a player, good at his role!.. A nice start to the Premier League!

Keano - With Portsmouth lurking in 3rd, that loss to L.O and draws against Derby and Wycombe could be costly!, if you can hang on you will be the first manager in history to see Accrington Stanly out of League Two!

vrabbit - Seems everyone has missed the fact you won the J.Paint trophy swell as promotion last season!, well done!, A very Bournemouth type story coming along here with promotion after promotion on a budget!, in my career i have Thierry Ambrose on my shortlist, but he is only 65 overall, you've got him upto a 74!... Championship Football will be tougher, might need too focus on adding quality defenders ready for another promotion!

Moose - Dyballa...No!, Oh no not Dyballa!!!....no now!...you have Champions League games to play!!.
I'm sure the board will want a top of the table finish?...Rondon and Lacazette really have to stand up now!, on a bright note Everton seem to be doing well in your career mode! just kidding!, I thought you had Hull City covered but they just kept coming at you in the last 10... you certainly have a lot of depth through the mid and striker position but Massana needs to polish up his finishing technique!. Have you felt Pjanic has been a good fit so far for West Ham?

Simpuu - What a fall from grace Stuttgart have had, I don't know a lot about Bundesliga history!... Timo Werner sold already!l! ...A commitment to realism at it's finest!, 19 mil tho is something to work with!, A great performance against Fortuna Düsseldorf!,not to often the ball finds the net 6 times!.

Cruzer - I really like the signing of Mané, I do request you change his armbands from red to blue! haha A good start in the Champions League smashing Legia Warzawa 0-3... As an Everton fan i will be keeping a close eye on these updates!

SoutherMetalHead - I know very very little about Russian Football!, but Moscow, Zenit and Locomotive would all have big budgets,correct?...and does only the league winner get through to champions league?

Josh 4 - It's going to be hard to fend off those early leads in the premier league!, The Chelsea loss would have hurt!, gotta maybe park the but and use the play possession settings to keep those leads from dissolving!

                Manager's Thoughts
A great October saw us win 5 of 7 matches and get draws in the 2 matches we didn't win, which vaulted us into 1st place in Serie B with a 5-point cushion at the top of the table. We opened with a tough 1-1 draw against a very good Cagliari side as we were rescued by an 86th minute goal from Marcello Trotta. The other huge game was a 1-0 win over previous league-leaders Spezia as a deflected header from Francesco Tavano on a cross into the box found its way in the back of the net. The only game I felt disappointed by was the 0-0 draw at Modena, but overall the lads are doing phenominal.

                November 2015 - Fixtures
                11/3 - at Cesena
                11/7 - vs Perugia
                11/11 - at Palermo*
                11/14 - at Livorno
                11/21 - vs Pro Vercelli
                11/24 - at Latina
                11/28 - at Novara

                *TIM Cup - Round 3

November sees us with tough league games against Cesena, Perugia, and Livorno, all clubs who are in the top-8. Cesena and Livorno are on the road, but I would still like to take at least a win and a draw from that split. We also see how we stack up against a Serie A side, as we play Palermo in the 3rd Round of the TIM Cup. The cup is of less importance to me than promotion, so we will probably go with a reserve squad. The ultimate goal at this point is to get the jump to the top-flight of Italian football for next season, so strong results are critical.

                    Starting XI (4-4-2 Diamond Wide)

                    Martinez

                    Odubajo/Luan/Blackett/B-Williams

                    Ince

                    Giles ------------------ B. Moore

                    Gordon

                    Ambrose ------- Thuram

                    ___________________________________

                    League Match 5
Leeds United - Newport County (1-0)
                    Elek 72'

Leeds frustrated The Exiles all game long on both ends of the pitch and Ákos Elek put a loose ball past Emiliano Martinez about 20 minutes before the game's end to give the home team 3 crucial points in the early going. Leeds slightly edged the visitors in both possession and shots.

                    League Match 6
                    Bournemouth - Newport County (0-2)
                    Giles 32' (Ambrose)
                    Thuram 45+' (Giles)

Giles and Ambrose left their prints all over this key road win for The Exiles as they teamed up twice in a 15-minute span to help Newport get all they would need to earn the 3 points. Ambrose fed Giles on a breakaway on the right side of the box for the first score and then right before the half the French striker connected with the English winger again who then proceeded to cross the ball into the box to Thuram who headed it in for the second score.

                    ...

With a rivalry game on tap against Cardiff City, Exiles coach Giovanni Marccelino went slightly off character in his pre-game press conference:

                    League Match 7
                    Newport County - Cardiff City
                    Spoiler

                    Spoiler

                    League Match 8
                    QPR - Newport County (3-0)
                    Villalba 7'
                    Polter 34'
                    Polter 48'
Gordon 56' (Bruised elbow, out 8 days)

The Exiles suffer back-to-back losses for the first time this season and some concern starts to roam the headlines in Newport. Although Marccelino's squad had a similar number of shots and shots on goal as QPR they weren't able to be as effective and were thoroughly outclassed from beginning to end by the league leaders.

                    League Match 9
Newport County - Blackburn Rovers (1-0)
                    In Beom 53' (Giles)
                    Blackett 75'

The Exiles were able to break out of their funk during a moment of brilliance between Giles and In Beom that was good enough to earn them an important victory against one of the teams ahead of them in the standings. However, it was a fairly close game throughout. Additionally, the win may be the second biggest story to come from this game as the starting lineup had a sudden change in it with Tyler Blackett starting in place of Sebastian Vegas. When asked about it after the game Marccelino would only say he had spoke with both players and was "trying something different". Newport County had given up 5 goals in 2 games before earning this clean sheet so we'll have to analyze Vegas' performances this season.

Capital One Cup - 3rd Round
Wigan Athletic - Newport County (0-1)
                    Thuram 35' (In Beom)

A rainy day made for a sloppy game at DW Stadium but thankfully for The Exiles they were able to break through on a nice feed from In Beom to Thuram in the 35th minute. Marccelino's squad continues to be far from convincing but they also continue to move on in the COC.

Marcus Thuram scores the only goal of the game.

                    League Match 10
                    Huddersfield - Newport County (0-5)
                    Ince 9' (Ambrose)
                    Ambrose 28' (Thuram)
                    Ince 36' (Gordon)
                    Giles 79' (Fernandes)
                    Ambrose 84' (Giles)

Some will say questions about The Exiles remain even if they slaughtered the worst team in the league but struggling teams don't win games 5-0 much less on the road, so this may signify the righting of the ship for Marccelino & Co. Newport was dominant from beginning to end, dominating both possession (55%) and putting 7 of their 8 shots on goal while holding Huddersfield to a single shot that wasn't even on target. It was a much needed performance to end the month to hopefully put this team back in contention.

Marccelino's Dairy: September was a rough month for us, no reason to sugar coat that. In cup play winning is all that matters so I was proud of the lads for pulling the 1-0 win, but 3-0-3 in league play is just not acceptable. I had been noticing poor form in our CB play and after the consecutive losses I made a decision to start Tyler Blackett to get a different look. Maybe I was being too greedy by starting two CB's that had just arrived to the league. Sebastian Vegas is a good player, a good defender, and he'll get an opportunity again. Luan is more of a veteran so I feel I can trust him through the struggles but with Sebastian I want to make sure I'm taking care of him. We'll see how things go in the next couple of months.

                    The Academy

CAM - Daniele Martella (57 OVR, 90-94 POT): The more our scouts evaluate this 17-year old from Italy the more they are convinced he has top potential. While he isn't as advanced in his development as other prospects in our club we're committed to working as much as needed with him to help him become a future part of our roster and hopefully reach his potential.

CDM - Doke Boëtius (60 OVR, 81-87): 17-year old from Netherlands standing at 6'3" and 169lbs. He joins a crowded group of youngsters at CDM (Dall'Oglio, Ichigawa, Kagome) so he'll need to be patient and continue to work hard in the academy for his opportunity. He could become a loan candidate as soon as next season.

CAM - Andrea De Girolamo (64 OVR, 78-86): 18-year old from Italy whose skill set is probably on par with the core of players who provide depth for the club. Standing at 5'7", 145lbs, De Girolamo is a demon with the ball at his feet in the academy thanks to his combination of agility (75), ball control (74), dribbling (73), and acceleration (71).

RB - Willem Van Hout (48 OVR, 79-85): This 16-year old from Belgium is still very raw but exhibits very good potential and coaches in the academy are trying to make sure he remains focused on working on developing his game. Doesn't possess the pace the team would like at the position but Marccelino is keeping more of an open mind when it comes to that after watching Fernandes play.

Freeman played Collins through on the right side of the goal and he hit it to the far post to put the Blades ahead comfortably. Match Summary: Davis sent a cross in from the left side of the box and Vitor slid in behind him after the ball was out and drew a red card and conceded a penalty as a result. Abraham smashed the penalty into the top left corner to make the other side pay. Albrighton got around his man on the right and turned inside the find Wallace with a simple lay off that he powered over the keeper to double the lead. Leicester then showed determination when Gray crossed it in from the left wing and Okazaki ran in and beat the keeper's punch with a header into the back of the net. They added another when Gray's ball into the box was laid off by Kante for Okazaki to tee it up and beat the keeper on the near post for the equalizer. In a move of pure stupidity, Huth took down Odubajo in the box with a slide and Abraham buried his second penalty to put his team ahead of the 10 man Leicester.

Red Star FC 0 - 0 FC Metz
                          MOTM: Balijon

Match Summary: FC Metz dropped it's first points of the entire season, but still maintained their unbeaten streak in this scoreless draw. Red Star failed to put even a single shot on target, giving Didillon very little to do. On the other side Balijon clearly earned his status as man of the match making one stellar save after another.

                          FC Metz 2 - 1 AJ Auxerre
                          FCM - Metanire 22', Mayi 55'
                          AJA - Sassi 28'
                          MOTM: Didillon

Match Summary: In perhaps the first time all year, Metz was outplayed in a match. Still, they did enough to come away with the win. Metanire opened the scoring when he held off his defender on the right wing trying to get the space to send a cross in. He realized that he had a free run to the goal and took it and used a strong shot to hit it off the keeper and into the net. Just minutes later Gragnic got the ball outside to the right and he crossed it in for Sassi who was running in for a diving header past the keeper to equalize at 1 a piece. Auxerre had the better share of the chances after that, but Metz was the one to break the tie in the second half when Candeias found Mayi on the right side of the goal and he trapped it and placed the ball into the top left corner. After that all Metz had to do was hold on to the lead, and the league leading defense was able to get the job done.

Le Havre AC 0 - 2 FC Metz
                          FCM - Mayi 56', Ikaunieks 63'
                          MOTM: Candeias

Match Summary: This result was never in doubt and the game was one of the most dominating performances of the season for FC Metz. Maintaining 59% possession they also managed to keep Le Havre from registering even a single shot at the goal. Le Havre did enough in the first half to keep them off the board, but Metz certainly had their chances forcing a couple saves and putting a couple more just wide. The second half is when the breakthrough came with Candeias getting around his man on the right side and sending a ball across the box for Mayi who slipped past his defender and tapped it in. It wasn't long after that Doukoure chipped a fantastic ball over the defense for Ikaunieks to run into the box on the right side and place the ball back across into the bottom left corner. Metz had a couple more chances to finish the match, but the score line held where it was.

I caught up on your vids. It's a shame about Dybala because he was back to being a scoring threat each time out so that will definitely be a hard void to fill. I think I missed the part where Rondon's injury had kept him so long too, I thought it was something minor, but that GW goal on the road at Camp Nou could probably be called the most important of his career. He isn't the athlete Dybala is but if you can feed him he'll finish plays for you. You're doing really well in the BPL and CL and I guess getting bounced from the COC early has sort of helped you stay in really good from in the other two competitions. How committed will you be to the F.A. Cup considering you're likely to be playing CL games when the cup games start to pop up?
