In the 37th minute, Leon Goretzka cuts in from the left on the counter attack and puts the ball into the box and onto the run of Fábio Sturgeon who pokes the ball home past Mortiz.

In the 52nd minute, triangle passing on the right wing by Banya, Bezjak and Barmby sees the ball slotted through though the defence and to Julian Sorg who cuts into the box before finding Ziegler who delays his run to make space for his placed shot into the bottom corner with his left foot for the equaliser.

Julian Sorg picks out Bulut on the right. His floated cross is aimed at Ziegler but it’s behind him. The ball bounces to Banya who has plenty of time to take a touch before smashing the ball low and beating the keeper at his near post to make the score 2-1.

We finish the game off as Schalke pushes men forward and we run up-field on the counter. Cameron Brannagan runs it to the corner flag before turning and feeding the ball to the edge of the box to Bachmann who switches to the ball to the right flank to Bulut. Onur uses his pace to attack the by-line before smashing the ball across goal to Ziegler at the back post who tucks it home easily.

Once again, Henrik Gulden scores a penalty to win us the three points with only 2 minutes before half time, but the penalty itself is very controversial one. The defender indisputably won the ball but the challenge was aggressive enough for the penalty.

Morgan receives a harsh red card in the 84th minute for being the ‘last man back’ but the challenge is on the half-way line and there are plenty of people to cover for him and he got the ball cleanly without even getting much of the man. It’s a real shocker from the ref.

Stuttgart start well with Bochum not playing to the match plan which results in Ross Barkley breaking away from Julian Sorg before seeing the rebound of his shot fall to the head of Fabian Uth who heads home after the 13th minute. 6 minutes later, Barkley scores an easy one-on-one but only 4 minutes after Stuttgart’s second Bachmann wins the ball deep within the Stuttgart half before skipping around two defenders before sneaking his shot underneath the body of the keeper.

Then everything else was just something to forget for us, including a last minute red card for Avenatti.

Bruno Soriano Llido out-hustled two defenders and Bill Hamid to the ball off a corner kick deep into stoppage time to give the ball just enough inertia to send it towards the back of the net to hand The Exiles a heart-breaking defeat in more ways than one. The late goal not only gives The Yellow Submarine the lead heading into the second leg but also an additional away goal that could carry a lot of weight in the aggregate score. Newport County created a lot of scoring opportunities (11 shots, 8 on target) but couldn't score more than just once against an inspired Sergio Asenjo.

Aaron Leya Iseka had put The Exiles up front before a lot of fans had even gotten into their seats and Newport County's B-squad seemed to be on their way to follow up on the trashing The Swans had received in an 0-4 defeat back in November. But the home team, trying to fight their way out of the relegation zone, didn't let the early deficit affect them and kept the game close, then struck twice within the last 10 minutes of the game to pull off the upset.

The Exiles went into this game needing to score twice to have a chance to move on to the next round but The Yellow Submarine held them to just one (spectacular) goal to send Newport County packing and out of the UEL. Saint-Maximin, starting at CAM with Jefferson Farfán moving back to RM as a result of Potter's injury, gave his side hope with this magnificent strike in the 27th minute:

But Newport County were stymied thereafter by a Villareal squad that did a great job of keeping the pressure on their opponents through dangerous counter-attacks that could had easily expanded their lead. Villareal had more chances to score in the second half than Newport County did and deservedly move on in the UEL.

Demarai Gray scored the deciding goal near the end of the first half of extra time to give Leicester City a pass to the F.A. Cup final and nullify a great comeback effort from Newport County. The Exiles were on the wrong side of a closely-contested game thanks to goals late in the first half and early in the second half by The Foxes, but Konsta Salo subbed in to inject some energy into an exhausted unit to first assist Ambrose and then score a goal of his own to tie it all up at 2-2. Marccelino's squad had two clear chances to go ahead before Gray's game-winner but both Kjetil Ringdal Støvland and Farfán were denied by goal posts. In a matter of 4 days Newport County was eliminated from both the UEL and F.A. Cup.

The Exiles showed incredible resolve in playing Tottenham punch for punch at White Hart Lane, keeping The Spurs to just 2 shots on target on 8 attempts then grabbing a late goal on a counter-attack. Salo stepped up once again, receiving a pass from his own side near midfield then using a nit bit of skill to keep the ball from three defenders to then cleanly place a through pass to a streaking Jack Giles on the left side who calmly dribbled into the box before firing a potent crossing shot that Hugo Lloris wasn't able to get to in time.

Analysis: The Exiles bow out of the UEL and F.A. Cup but Marccelino & Co. should be praised for taking this team, newly promoted to the BPL, so deep into both tournaments. Newport County had a particularly impressive run in the UEL considering this was their first time in European competition. In the F.A. Cup they made a big run in their attempt to defend their title from last season and can say with certainty that they left it all out on the pitch with their effort. Making this season even more impressive is that, while contending in other competitions, The Exiles continue to manage to be in contention for a return to European competition next season. Newport County will host Manchester United to close out Week 35 in a vital match-up in the race for European competition. If Manchester City wins the F.A. Cup then even a 7th place finisher would qualify for the UEL next season, but if Leicester City beats MCFC in the F.A. Cup final then the cutoff for the UEL will be 6th place. With that in mind Marccelino's squad definitely left some valuable points off their table in April as the 5 points they missed out on against Stoke and Swansea look the difference between battling for a spot in the Champions League vs the UEL.

In academy news, the team's scouts in Spain and Portugal have finished their assignments there in what was possibly their last assignment with the club, which is likely to hire more experienced scouts with the extra earnings from this season. The club's newest scout remains in Sweden.

RB - Johan Sheriff (58 OVR, 81-94 POT)*: This 17-year old from Sweden joins the academy right away contending for the title of top prospect in the youth squad. Sheriff possesses ideal size (6'2" 174lbs) to go along with excellent development of his physical skills (79 aggression, 78 strength, 75 jumping) so the club will be working on developing his defensive skills.

LW - Marcos Andrade (62 OVR, 82-94): 16-year old GEM from Portugal who is a physically-gifted player with a balanced game who is already establishing himself as one of the top prospects not just in the academy but for the club overall.

ST - Liam Taylor (58 OVR, 81-87): This 16-year old from England now has some company for the title of top prospect in the academy but continues to be considered by many in the organization someone who will be able to follow Ringdal Støvland's path. He currently stands at 5'7" and 154lbs and is described physically strong (75 aggression, 71 jumping, 69 strength) and he also has notable pace (75spd/71acc).

CDM - Pierre Tägtström (48 OVR, 78-94)*: 15-year old from Sweden who becomes the latest prospect at this position for the club. He's described as physically strong and also shows aggressiveness (82) towards the ball. At his age and with the club's depth at the position Tägtström should be able to spend time developing in the academy without any rush.

LW - Andre Domingues (48 OVR, 71-91): 15-year old from Portugal who is raw but exhibits great potential. We're hopeful that his performance in the academy will match that potential.

CF - Jordan Davies (49 OVR, 73-79): 16-year old from England described as physically strong and measuring at 5'5", 154lbs. He may not be more than a backup in the future but he flashes a natural ability to play in the air (78 jumping) to go with some pace (72acc/70spd).

Three of the four games against top-7 teams won't make it easy for The Exiles but at least they will play three of their four games at home, including the season finale against the current 14th place team. But even down 0-2 on the road to the best team in the league my guys didn't quit and kept the threat of a draw alive all the way till the end. I take some pride in that.

It was a lot of fun to come back from an 0-2 deficit to take 3 points at home. Very much needed too.

This Twentse Derby was not as easy for us as the score suggests and definitely harder than our win against our rivals early in the season. It took two deadly counter attacks for Veldwijk to get his goals and a corner kick for Andersen to get his in what was otherwise a tightly contested game. At the end of the day though we get through my first season at the club with an overall score of 7-0 in our favor against our rivals, and that should definitely buy me some brownie points with the fan base. Plus, it puts us in the driver seat for clinching second place on the table going into the last game of the season.

Review: Overall the results are pleasing for my first season at the club, outside of the Oranje Beker where we were one-and-done. With the 2nd place finish in the league I was able to improve on the 4th place finish the club had had last season, and our run into the Round of 16 of the UEL was good and we were within minutes of getting past Lazio who eventually won the whole thing. Most importantly we clinch a spot into Champions League next season which became our goal once it was clear Ajax was just going to roll. We'll have to play in the qualifying round but it's still a shot at it. But the actual performance of the club wasn't up to my standards and I already have a couple of moves in mind for the upcoming transfer window. While we can claim to have scored more goals than last season in league play (65 to 64), we gave up 12 more goals than last season and that's just not a good formula for success, especially if we want to make a serious run in multiple competitions again next season. Individually, Derlis González had been our best player for most of the season but Veldwijk's performance over the last few games was just incredible and definitely gets his name thrown into that hat. I'll announce the team's MVP in the roster review.

Starting XI

GK: Alexander Domínguez (73 OVR) - 39 apps, 9 CS: I elected to start the veteran 33-year old from Ecuador over the promising Joël Drommel this season and I can conclude the decision paid off. While Domínguez was far from perfect, and is a candidate to be replaced next season, he provided us with the best performances at the position. I really feel like we got the best out of him. Drommel had some opportunities to show his worth in the first half of the season but couldn't unseat Domínguez and by the time Bruno Varela arrived during the winter break I just didn't want to mess with playing time at this position anymore. Domínguez finished tied for 4th in the Eredivisie in clean sheets with 8. 7/10

RB: Kevin Diks (77 OVR) - 38 apps: The 23-year old from the Netherlands didn't get to join us until mid-season when we acquired him from Vitesse (a good number of those apps where with his former club) so it's difficult to give him a full assessment. However, in the number of games he did play for us I thought he was the upgrade I was looking for at the position and that he showed the flashes of what he can do for us over a full season. He still has room for improvement. 7/10

CB: Joachim Andersen (77 OVR) - 42 apps, 2 G, 1 A: Upon my arrival at the club I identified the 24-year old from Denmark as the best defender on this roster and I'm proud to say I was right. Unfortunately he didn't have the type of consistent season I would had liked to see, but Andersen often showed flashes his defensive skill set to pair with excellent mobility. He also made a few contributions on offense which is always a plus. At the end of the season when comparing all central defenders I had a hard time finding anyone with a better season than him outside of Riedewald from Ajax who was dominant. He is nearly penned in as a starter for next season. 7.5/10

CB: Giorgos Katsikas (76 OVR) - 40 apps, 1 G: The 30-year old from Greece was solid as our LCB and captain this season. Both him and Andersen had a poor showing in what turned out to be our only game in the Oranje Beker but other than that he was really was solid for us. He doesn't have the athleticism of Andersen but makes up for it with smarts and grit. However, he has probably peaked and we obviously need to shore up our defense so if we're able to land an upgrade at this position his job will be the first one up for grabs. 7/10

LB: Nathan Aké (76 OVR) - 46 apps, 6 A: The 25-year old from the Netherlands was an amazing coup for us in the summer. He displayed great pace and racked up a good number of assists mostly with crosses from the left wing. He's locked in as our LB for next season. 7/10

CDM: Kyle Ebecilio (78 OVR) - 41 apps, 7 G, 7 A: You may have noticed I thought the 26-year old from the Netherlands was the best at his position in the league all season. 7 goals and 7 assists from this position is just outstanding. He proved to have a deadly long range which he put in display several times from outside the box. The best part of his game is that he was consistently good throughout the season which I highly appreciate. He will remain a starter for us at this position next season. 8/10

RM: Lenny Nangis (80 OVR) - 46 apps, 8 G, 2 A: The 26-year old from France was another great pickup for us this past summer. His pace wrecks havoc for opposing fullbacks and his agility allows him to break into the box from the right wing with ease. If anything I think he can be even better and I hope he'll take that next step in his second season with the club. 8/10

LM: Derlis González (79 OVR) - 41 apps, 10 G, 12 A: The 26-year old from Paraguay was a steal for us in the deal that sent $6 million + Felipe Gutiérrez to San Lorenzo for him. Gutiérrez wasn't a fit in my scheme while Derlis has fit in perfectly since day one. There were several games this season in which he carried the team. Most importantly, he was able to be such a great asset for us while playing on the opposite side of his natural position. 8.5/10

CAM: Juan Pablo (Juanpi) Añor (77 OVR) - 40 apps, 7 G, 10 A: You won't see me being this harsh on Venezuelans very often but this 26-year old is the pick for most disappointing player for me this season. He arrive to the club on deadline day during the summer and while he can get a pass for taking a few games to get used to a new league he just never really got going. Outside of his hat-trick late in the season he struggled to contribute in scoring and simply I expect more assists from this spot in the lineup. Wesley Sneijder's arrival this summer will bump Juanpi to the bench but he's likely to see plenty of action regardless since Sneijder's stamina often won't allow him to play a full 90 minutes. The Dutch legend also is unlikely to play too many seasons before finally retiring so Juanpi will need to be ready to step back into this role, firing on all cylinders, when that time comes. 7/10

RS: Lars Veldwijk (77 OVR) - 37 apps, 23 G, 11 A: It was close, but I had to give the team MVP award to the 28-year old from the Netherlands. "The Dutch Tower" as I've come to call him (he's 6'6", 209lbs) had been having a solid season for us until the last couple of months when he caught absolute FIRE! Weirdly enough it wasn't until he got back from a sprained knee injury, which kept him out for 4 weeks, that he went on a ridiculous stretch in which he scored 11 goals (about half of his total for the season) in 9 games from March to May, scoring in all but one of those games to lead us in having a strong closing of the season. The hope is that now that he's settled in he'll be able to be more consistent with his scoring next season. 9/10

LS: Torgeir Børven (73 OVR) - 41 apps, 16 G, 5 A: The 28-year old from Norway was the pleasant surprise for us this season, stepping up in the scoring department for us when we were concerned we would be lacking in this department. The four-star rating on his weak foot is accurate as he was able to strike the ball with force and on target many times with his left foot and looked very comfortable on the left side of the attack. The best part of his performance is that he was able to be a factor for us consistently and while I would like to bring in a bonafide striker onto the roster I'll first have to dedicate the budget to shoring up the defense, then see if I have enough left to bring in a difference maker to step into this starting role. Otherwise, Børven can count on remaining starter for at least the first half of next season. 8/10

Bench

RB: Felix Passlack (70 OVR) - 14 apps, 1 G, 1 A: The 22-year old from Germany needs to improve the defensive aspect of this game, and we're working on that with him in training, but as an attacker I could sing his praises all day. In his short time with us this season after we acquired him in the winter he played RB, LB, RM, LM, and even CAM for a few minutes in one game. He's extremely versatile including being highly skilled at free kicks (if you didn't see his FK late in the season I suggest you go back a couple of updates). He obviously won't start for us next season but I expect him to sub into A LOT of games. 7/10

CB: Peet Bijen (71 OVR) - 14 apps: The 25-year old from the Netherlands has the specific role of providing depth for us at the position and I was surprised to see him perform solidly when called upon this season, especially when both Andersen and Katsikas suffered injuries at different points this season. Bijen's role is unlikely to even increase past what it is right now, but he could definitely continue to be an asset for us going forward. 7/10

CM: Renato Tapia (75 OVR) - 32 apps, 1 G, 2 A: The 24-year old from Peru isn't flashy but he's a key part of my bench due to his ability to fill in at either CDM or CAM. He's also an emergency starter if I ever choose to roll with a 4-3-3 and even in a 4-2-3-1 I might consider next season. Versatility is just key for guys coming from the bench and this guy has it, plus he still has untapped potential which is another plus for him. 6/10

CAM: Shadrach Eghan (75 OVR) - 28 apps, 4 G, 2 A: The 25-year old from Ghana was exactly what we needed him to be this season but unfortunately he has seen the writing on the wall with Sneijder's upcoming arrival. His role is likely to decrease next season and I have no doubts that's played a big part in his claims to be "home sick" towards the end of the season. Eghan could continue to be an asset for us next season but don't be shocked if he's sold during the summer. 6/10

LW: Alessio Da Cruz (72 OVR) - 26 apps, 3 A: The 23-year old from the Netherlands had a good season, applying himself during practice as well as during his multiple appearances for us in both league play and the UEL. Da Cruz is another one of those guys whose role is unlikely to increase a whole lot but who could be a good contributor for us going forward. 6/10

ST: Michael Olaitan (72 OVR) - 21 apps, 7 G, 4 A: The 27-year old from Nigeria won brownie points with me because after losing out to Børven for the starting spot at LS he did not change his approach and continued to be ready when called upon each and every time. His hot streak after Veldwijk's injury in February was a thing of beauty and helped us get some important results. He scored 6 of his 7 goals in 12 league games. He'll definitely have a role with us next season. 7/10

The Academy

RW - Luciano Wildschut (66 OVR, 92-94 POT): Now a 16-year old from the Netherlands and the unanimous top prospect in our academy. His pace (80acc/70spd) and agility (78) are eye-popping for his age and he has looked great so far in the academy. We're hopeful he'll meet the hype and will try to continue to develop him in the academy for as long as we can. We hope he'll remain patient.

LB - Odisseas Ludwig (58 OVR, 78-92): 15-year old from Germany described as physically strong who gets your attention off the tape in the scouting report. The jumping (79), strength (79), aggression (74), and pace (75spd/74acc) are noticeable and well advanced for his age so our youth scouts will be working on developing his defensive game but he's a really exciting prospect for us right now.

CB - Agustin Benitez (52 OVR, 78-94)*: 15-year old from Venezuela showing a lot of promise. Described as physically strong, Benitez displays excellent aggression (75) for his age.

LW - Roy Verrips (54 OVR, 82-88): 16-year old attacking winger from the Netherlands flashing pace (76acc/73spd). We're very excited about his potential and he joins a good crop of local talent whose development will be interesting to watch.

CM - Miguel Varela (44 OVR, 76-94)*: 17-year old from Venezuela described as defensive minded. None of his skills jump out at you right now because he's still very raw despite his age. However, he shows a lot of promise including his 6'2", 169lbs frame.

RM - Issa Drost (62 OVR, 78-88): 18-year old from the Netherlands, a prospect too good to pass up even at his advanced age. He shows excellent bend on the ball (82 curve) and good short-space burst (75 acc).

GK - Olivier Ofori (53 OVR, 80-88): 16-year old from Belgium who is officially our top goalkeeper prospect. If he can spend a full season in the academy he could become our third GK as soon as the '21-'22 season.

RW - Rick El Makrini (53 OVR, 75-89): 15-year old prospect from the Netherlands with notable pace (73spd/70acc) who shows a lot of promise early on.

CM - Vasco Granero (51 OVR, 72-92)*: 17-year old from Venezuela described as a playmaker. He possess good agility (74) although he needs to work hard in the academy to become useful for the senior roster.

CB - Rico Kehrer (59 OVR, 78-84): Now a 16-year old from Germany joining a pipeline of centre backs from that country in our academy. He's up to 5'5" and 152lbs and continues to be considered physically strong. He's an aggressive (86) defender.

RM - Mohamed Mühren (55 OVR, 80-86): 16-year old from the Netherlands who has been a pleasant surprise as our final assessment of him shows more potential than initially thought. He has very good pace (74spd/73acc), agility (73) and balance (73), a combination our coaches will try to continue to develop as well as other aspects of his game in hopes of finding a true diamond in the rough.

RW - Mauro Pröpper (56 OVR, 80-86): 15-year old from the Netherlands who is displaying very good agility (76) at a very young age to go with promising pace (73acc/67spd). Already labeled by our scouts as someone showing great potential.

CF - Gustavo Jimenez (40 OVR, 72-92)*: 17-year old from Venezuela signed to the squad in big part due to the position that he plays. He becomes the first striker/centre-forward to join the academy so he has that going for him, to go along with noticeable size (6'4", 176lbs), strength (75) and speed (74). He has the tools to be come a useful scorer for us in the future.

RM - Jens Schuermans (58 OVR, 76-82): Now a 16-year old from Belgium described as a playmaker. He's only grown three inches and seven pounds to 4'11" and 123lbs at the moment but he's crazy agile (76) for someone his age. He flashes some nice potential.

GK - Nill Oulare (56 OVR, 74-80): Now a 16-year old from Belgium currently standing at 5'9" and 157lbs. He has been developing well in his time in the academy although he projects as more of backup GK since scouts have concluded he doesn't have starting potential.

CDM - Daniel Yabo (63 OVR, 73-79): 16-year old from Germany described as defensive minded. His defensive skills are pretty advanced for someone his age and his stamina is already good enough to at least play in a backup role so he's set to be a contributor for the club well before his 18th birthday.
* Recent addition

Unfortunately Stephen Schoofs (CM - 54 OVR, 81-91), Nathaniel Drost (RW - 58 OVR, 79-85), and Denis Buysse (CDM - 48 OVR, 76-82) decided to drop out of our academy at the end of the season. Stephen and Nathaniel were truly exciting prospects while Denis was more of a long-term project. We hated losing them but we're happy to have made new additions to the academy, which after one season in my command is looking STRONG!

Not necessarily the group of death but come on how the hell am I top after 4 games the year after winning the EL. It's downright insane given the teams in the group(namely Inter and Real) 1st game I draw 2-2 with Real (Away at their place mind you) then I beat Inter 2-1 Away. Then I get Basel at home and beat them 2-0 Then the latest game I beat Real 2-1 at home. Seriously my team isn't even that good. Sure all but 3 of my Starting XI are 80+ but still. I had no business doing anything against Real.

Memphis Depay and Miralem Pjanić scored unbelievable goals to lead the Red Devils to a key road victory at Rodney Parade. The degree of difficulty for both of Man U's goals was high and there was nothing Bill Hamid could had done to stop them. The Exiles created a good number of opportunities to equalize the game, taking 8 shots although only 2 of them were on target. However, most of those misses were the kind that made the fan base hold their breath for a moment, including very close misses from Allan Saint-Maximin and Jefferson Farfán near the end.

This timely through pass from Farfán helped Saint-Maximin stay onside to catch up to it and score Newport County's only goal of the game.

The Exiles made up for their critical loss the week before by earning a very important road victory at the Stadium of Light. Thierry Ambrose made an impressive no-look pass towards Bondz Moore that helped the academy-graduate be unmarked to put Newport county ahead, then the skipper gave Marccelino's squad the insurance goal they would need to avenge their 2-3 loss to The Black Cats back in September.

A big mistake (handball) by Sebastián Vegas in his own box proved very costly as Eden Hazard's successful PK would be all the difference in a tightly-contested game. The Blues bounced back from their elimination at the hands of The Exiles in last season's F.A. Cup to win all three games against Newport County this season (including the Community Shield).

Analysis: Concluding anything other than The Exiles exceeded expectations this season would be just wrong. Labeled as a candidate for immediate relegation during pre-season, Newport County started out slowly but grew stronger as the season went on and their biggest blemish was their inability to close out the season on a strong note. Hardly something that can be held against a club spending its first season ever in the top flight of the English Football League. And if finishing in 5th place wasn't impressive enough, here is how Marccelino's team fared in the other competitions it participated in this season: reached the semi-finals of the F.A. Cup, reached the quarter-finals of the Euro League, reached the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup. The Exiles contended in every single competition they were in this season (including winning their pre-season tournament) to continue to add impressive anecdotes to their history.

And the good news don't stop with the end of the season for Newport County, as the arrival of the summer means that pre-contract signings Paul Pogba and Kurt Zouma will be joining the club after their contracts with Liverpool and Chelsea (respectively) come to an end. The arrival of these Frenchmen certainly gives The Exiles' roster a boost that should increase expectations from them for next season. And that will be thing to watch for in '20-'21: Newport County was able to surprise a lot of people this season, but will they be able to handle the burden of increased expectations next season?

I just haven't had the time really, only played two games into the season so far with Chelsea. I can't download the patch either because I'm not connected to the internet so no PL match day presentation for me.

Actually, so far I haven't ran across a single game-breaking issue. The game is running smoothly despite some minor issues I have, one of them being the size of my transfer budget. The real reason why I haven't posted in a week or so is that I've been getting carried away by FUT and The Journey.
