      Season 6

      The Mariners

      February 2022

      QPR 1 - 1 Grimsby Town
      QPR - Grego-Cox 82'
      GRI - Konate 89'
      MOTM: Phillips

We left a lot of chances out there and had to scramble just to get a draw. The game remained scoreless for almost the entire match, and then with less than 10 minutes left we broke down defensively and Grego-Cox got behind our back line and had an easy finish to take the lead. Before the final whistle blew Phillips was able to get the ball to Konate out right and he took his shot early and kept it low across the goal and it settled into the bottom left corner.

      Liverpool FC 3 - 4 Grimsby Town
      LIV - Fabinho 21', Meite 55', 80'
      GRI - Sacko 18', 66', Dembele 24', 62'
      MOTM: Sacko

This will probably go down as the most exciting match of the season. The goals came pouring in, and we were fortunate to be on the side with more. Sacko started it off with Wolf playing him the ball on the right and he finished it low around the keeper. Fabinho equalized just minutes later after he worked his way through our defense and powered his shot into the top corner. Dembele was the next to get on the score sheet and Sacko was the one who provided him the ball on the edge of the box and he made a great turn to slot it home. Liverpool once again equalized through Meite after the ball fell to him after a tackle attempt and he beat the keeper with a well placed shot. Dembele completed his brace with a powerful header on a corner sent in from Wolf and we had the lead once again. Sacko then got a brace of his own as he got the ball out to the right and he took it early and placed it low into the bottom left corner. Meite then pulled one back, once again making our defense look foolish and he let it fly into the top left corner.

      Swansea City 2 - 0 Grimsby Town
      SWA - Ponce 72', Bray 88'
      MOTM: Bray

This was a bad loss, and hopefully one that wont come back to haunt us down the line. We fell behind when Ponce got in behind our defense and he blasted a shot into the top corner on the near post. They then doubled the lead after a shot from distance came back off the post and Bray ran past the defense to get the rebound and direct it into the back of the net.

Europa League Round of 32 Leg 1
      Grimsby Town 1 - 0 Guimaraes
      GRI - Sacko 55'
      MOTM: Kamada

I would have liked to have opened up a wider lead in the first leg, but we should be able to take care of business on the away trip. After an uneventful first half, Sacko gave us the lead after Kamada played him around the right and he finished back across the goal. We missed a few chances afterwards and that cost us from getting a comfortable league from the first leg.

      F.A. Cup Round of 16
      Grimsby Town 0 - 0 West Brom
      MOTM: Morris

Another poor performance and we have another fixture added to our schedule now that we really didn't need. There's not much I can say about this match as there wasn't much action from either side. Nothing we can do now except for focusing on what's ahead of us.

Europa League Round of 32 Leg 2
      Guimaraes 0 (0) - (1) 0 Grimsby Town
      MOTM: Kessie

Our scoring form has been atrocious lately, but luckily our defense covered and that was all we needed having already grabbed a goal in the first leg. If we can get our attack going again then we can really be a dangerous team no matter who we face.

      EFL Cup Final
      Grimsby Town 1 - 2 Tottenham Hotpsur
      GRI - Kamada 30'
      TOT - Alli 54', Nkoudou 74'
      MOTM: Nkoudou

Absolutely heart breaking. We had it and then we let it slip. We took the lead early on with Kamada and Kessie playing a great 1-2 and Kamada drove a low shot from the edge of the box to the bottom left corner. In the second half we got careless with the ball and gave it away in our own third allowing Alli to go through on goal and there was never any doubt that he was going to finish it. We had a huge chance to regain the lead as Morris curled a free kick perfectly to the top left corner from 25 yards out, but Lloris made a world class save to get across and push it away at the last second. Lloris' performance was quite opposite from Johnstone on the other end as Nkoudou cut the ball to his right foot and got some space to curl a shot from the edge of the box into the top right corner as Johnstone stood like a statue and never even reacted. That was enough to decide the game and it was Tottenham holding the trophy when the whistle blew.

        Season 2

        Club in Crisis

        February 2018

        Blackpool FC 0 - 2 Bolton Wanderers
        BOL - Clough 49', Wilkinson 55'
        MOTM: Rios

We played a lot better than the scoreline showed, and should have had at least one goal for our efforts if not more. After a scoreless first half Bolton finally broke the deadlock with Clough getting through and his shot was initially saved by our keeper, but he only managed to push it down into the ground and it bounced high before carrying on over the line. Wilkinson then doubled the lead as he parted our defense and walked right into our box and finished on the near post.

        Swindon Town 0 - 2 Blackpool FC
        BLP - Vassell 65', 86'
        MOTM: Vassell

We completely outclassed Swindon on the night and they didn't even manage to put a single shot on target. Vassell was the man of the hour and he opened the scoring with a bit of luck when he tried to pass it off but it was blocked right back into him and he was able to carry on and go through on goal for the finish past the keeper. Then in the closing minutes McMahon got the ball out wide and he sent a great cross into the box that Vassell was able to redirect inside the far post and that was more than enough to put the game out of reach.

        Blackpool FC 2 - 0 Exeter City
        BLP - Pawlett 19' (PEN), 47' (PEN)
        MOTM: Pawlett

Somehow we assaulted their goal non stop and only came up with penalty goals. Still, they are goals nonetheless. The first came with Moore-Taylor slid down and clipped Evina's heels inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Pawlett stepped up and powered his shot into the left side of the goal. Just after the half it was Archibald-Henville this time that made a terrible challenge on Vassell running into the box and Pawlett went the same way from the spot again and even though the keeper chose the right direction, he burried the ball into the back of the net.

        S****horpe United 1 - 2 Blackpool FC
        SCU - Mantom 35'
        BLP - McMahon 68', Philliskirk 90'
        MOTM: Philliskirk

We probably didn't deserve the win, but the bounces fell our way in the end and we managed to grab a last minute goal to take the points. They took advantage of our inability to clear the ball and after they won it back Mantom let it fly from the edge of the box into the top left corner. In the second half we finally got on the score sheet when Vassell attacked down the left and pulled the ball back to find McMahon in the middle and he slotted it into the bottom right corner. In the final minute we got out ahead on the counter and some nice passing led to Daniel playing Philliskirk down the middle and he placed it to the left side of the keeper for the win.

        Blackpool FC 0 - 0 Barnsley FC
        MOTM: Pawlett

I wish I could recap this better, but literally nothing happened. Neither side recorded a shot on goal, and it was just a masterclass on how to be inept at everything you do. The supporters no doubt are leaving disappointed, and we have to aim to do better going forward.

            March 2022

            Grimsby Town 1 - 0 Stoke City
            GRI - Cole 40'
            MOTM: Cole

It wasn't the greatest of performances, but a win is a win. The only goal of the match came from a horrible decision by their keeper as he tried to pass the ball to a defender while Cole was lurking and he jumped the pass and finished into the open net. Nothing else happened the rest of the way and the game was decided off of just the one mistake.

F.A. Cup Round of 16 Replay
            West Brom 1 (4) - (5) 1 Grimsby Town
            WBA - Vela 90'
            GRI - Griffiths 78'
            MOTM: Kamada

The FA tried to screw us over by forcing us to play this game literally a day after we played Stoke. As a result our squad was rotated beyond all measure, and the ones that weren't were tired as hell. Despite that we managed to put in a respectable performance. We took the lead after Kamada played Griffiths around the left and he was able to shoot from a tough angle and sneak it inside the far post for the lead. It looked like that was going to hold but in the final minute we gave the ball away in our own half and it was played up ahead to Vela and he made us pay as he fired it inside the right side of the goal. Nothing changed during the extra time period and it went to penalties. After an exciting shootout that involved Johnstone making 3 saves, Griffiths was the one the tuck away the final penalty that sends us through to the quarter finals.

            Manchester United 0 - 1 Grimsby Town
            GRI - Dembele 45'
            MOTM: Morrison

This is a huge win in terms of the standings. United gave us everything they had, but Thomas was a giant in between the sticks tonight. We got the breakthrough right at the stroke of half time when Morrison broke down the left side and played the ball into the middle where Banton struck it first time and saw it deflect off of Dembele on the way in. We weathered the storm after that and managed to keep them from equalizing.

Europa League Round of 16 Leg 1
            Leicester City 2 - 1 Grimsby Town
            LEI - Grujic 61', 83'
            GRI - Dembele 17'
            MOTM: Grujic

Tired legs were our downfall as the fixture congestion continues to hit us hard. We started strong with Sacko laying the ball off for Dembele in front of goal to finish around the keeper. We started running out of gas after that though and by the time the second half came around it was only a matter of time before they took advantage. Grujic started running at our defense with options on either side of him and he took it himself and beat the keeper as our defense couldn't decide who to mark. Grujic then went on another run through our defense in the final minutes and he stopped at the edge of the box and let it fly with a perfectly placed shot into the top right corner. Hopefully the away goal will be enough to get us through after the second leg.

            F.A. Cup Quarter Final
            Grimsby Town 3 - 1 Nottingham Forest
GRI - Cole 90' (PEN), Monte 100' (OG), Cole 119'
            NOT - Pinillos 45'
            MOTM: Cole

We were all but knocked out, and then a last minute penalty gave us a lifeline that we took advantage of. Right at the end of the first half Pinillos got the ball open on the back post and he beat our keeper on his near post with a nice finish. Then with virtually no time remaining Phillips took advantage of Hwang Seok Ho as he slid down to try to win the ball and instead clipped Phillips from behind and the referee pointed to the spot. Cole blasted his shot and it's a good thing he did because the keeper guessed right but just barely missed keeping it out. In extra time Morris worked his way down the right and tried to send a ball across the box but Monte deflected it as it went across and watched in horror as it went into his own goal. Then Cole locked up the result after a shot from Phillips was saved but fell right to Cole and he buried his shot.

Europa League Round of 16 Leg 2
            Grimsby Town 1 (2) - (2) 0 Leicester City
            GRI - Harris 90'
            MOTM: Kamada

What an unbelievable finish to send us to the quarter finals. We dominated Leicester all game, but just couldn't get that final touch on the ball to get the goal we needed until the very last possible second. After battling all game as hard as we could we were left exasperated, but with some late substitutions we finally found the right combination. Morrison was played the ball to Harris on the right and he turned around his defender to face up to goal and he fired it low across to the far post and the keeper had no chance at saving it. Combined with our away goal from the previous leg, that was all we needed to advance.

            Newcastle United 0 - 1 Grimsby Town
            GRI - Kessie 26'
            MOTM: Kessie

There wasn't a great amount of chances from either side, but we did enough to get the result we needed. We took the lead when Morrison played the ball to Kessie and he took it around the edge of the defense and turned in to slot it low past the keeper with a well placed shot to the far post. There really wasn't any real chances of note the rest of the way, but the win was an important one for us to pick up.

              Burton Albion 0 - 2 Blackpool FC
              BLP - Magennis 53', Vassell 90'
              MOTM: Deegan

We controlled the game from start to finish and goals from both strikers was a nice thing to see. Our first goal came in the second half off of a corner when Deegan sent it in to the near post and Magennis was there to meet it and power it past the keeper. Then in the final minute we cleared a corner away as Burton had everyone up and Vassell was able to race down and get the ball and finish it into the open net.

              Blackpool FC 1 - 1 Bristol Rovers
              BLP - Magennis 38' (PEN)
              BRI - Taylor 40'
              MOTM: Taylor

It was honestly a really poor performance for both sides, and despite there being very little action, there was a goal from each side. We scored first after the referee awarded us a penalty that I will admit was debatable. Magennis placed it into the right side of the goal as the keeper went the other direction. The lead only lasted a mere two minutes as they went down the other end and sent a cross in where Taylor stretched out and dove head first to knock it into the back of the net just before the keeper could get to it and punch it away.

              Blackpool FC 0 - 3 Coventry City
              COV - Beavon 49', 71', Turnbull 67'
              MOTM: Beavon

Abysmal, and even worse considering that our own supporters had to sit through it. We took a single shot and it didn't even challenge the keeper. Beavon opened the scoring after he was able to bring a cross down with his chest and the slot it past the keeper. Turnbull doubled the lead after Archer tried to tip a ball over his bar but it ended up coming back off of it and he was there to tap it in. Beavon then completed his brace after he sat himself in the gap between defenders and waited for the ball and once he got it all he had to do was turn and finish.

              Northampton Town 1 - 1 Blackpool FC
              NOR - Hoskins 89'
              BLP - Pawlett 26' (PEN)
              MOTM: Pawlett

We wasted so many chances and that absolutely came back to bite us. Northampton had no business being in this one, and they get to walk away with a point instead. We admittedly got a soft penalty to give us the lead as Pawlett converted to the left side of the goal. We should have added more, but we came up lacking each time we had a good chance. With just a minute left Northampton poured their numbers forward and Hoskins got the ball on the edge of the box and avoided a tackle before firing his shot into the top right corner for the equalizer.

              Oxford United 2 - 0 Blackpool FC
              OXF - Sercombe 85', Thomas 90'
              MOTM: Sercombe

Our form is in the tank right now and it doesn't look to be getting better any time soon. We could have at least saved a point from this one, until we fell apart in the last 5 minutes. Sercombe is the one who got us when he got forward on the attack and drove a low shot across the goal into the bottom left corner. Thomas then put it to rest after an assortment of errors from us trying to clear the ball ended up with it falling right in front of him and he put it away.

              Blackpool FC 3 - 1 Luton Town
              BLP - Magennis 17', 83', Vassell 88'
              LUT - Hylton 90'
              MOTM: Magennis

Finally we got back to our scoring ways and it felt good after how hard they have been to come by lately. We got on the board in the first half when Vassell got out ahead on the counter and attacked all the way into the box before playing it across the goal for Magennis to tap in on the far post. Magennis then bagged a brace through sheer willpower after the defense made two attempts to tackle the ball away but he kept moving forward and placed his shot off the far post and in. We made it 3 after Magennis played Vassell around the left side of the defense and he tucked it away just past the keeper. Hylton did grab a consolation goal with a great strike from distance into the top right corner but it made no difference on the outcome.

              Rotherham United 2 - 1 Blackpool FC
              ROT - Newell 41', Clarke-Harris 48'
              BLP - Daniel 66'
              MOTM: McAlister

It looked like our form was looking up, but we followed it up with another dud. They too the lead after Archer came out of his box to clear a ball that got played long and it deflected off of Newell and he was the first to it and he had an easy finish into the now open net. Then on the other side of the break Clarke-Harris doubled the lead after he was completely unmarked in the middle of he box and a cross got played in for him to head home. We made it a game once again when McAlister played a great ball through to Daniel on the left and he finished it first time to the far post. Unfortunately that was all we were able to manage.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

Simppu - You had quite an eventful end to the season. The quarter final of the Champions League looked like it would have been as stressful as you can imagine, going to penalties and losing that way. But you more than made up for it by securing the title with a game to spare, and what was nice about that was that you were able to do it in front of your own fans. It looked like the last 2 rounds of the domestic cup were pretty straight forward for you, but that doesn't take anything away from winning it and getting your double. Great season! Hoping to see you bring home the treble next season!

Sportsfreak - Thanks for adding the score lines to each, that was a good suggestion from Keano to throw that in there. December and January looks like you had some really good months, unbeaten if I am looking at it right. That's always impressive, especially considering the Irish sides are in general fairly weak sides. I'm glad you decided to bring one over to England, it brings a nice variety. I had been considering doing a globetrotter career starting in Ireland back when I was thinking of what my next career would me.

Vrabbit - You didn't lose this month, but those draws definitely leave you wanting more I would imagine. Especially since it allowed City to start opening up a pretty wide gap to the top that will be hard to try to make up. Regardless of the title race though, you are in a great position currently. If Farfan retires what are your plans to replace him? Are you going to bring in someone in January or the summer, or will you just replace from within the squad?

Your Barca career seems to be going well. Looking at the top scorers and assists for the season gave me a little laugh. It's crazy to see that and then see that you only have a 3 point lead at the top, but I'm pretty confident that you are going to open that up as the season goes on. Although a close title race would definitely add some excitement into the mix if it does turn out that way.

Poulka - Hope that you are going to continue to update your Notts career, especially after how that season ended. That is one of the most exciting ends to a season I have seen, especially having it decided in a head to head match. Its heart breaking that you came up short, which is why I hope to see more from you on this as you try to come back with a vengeance.

I got really lucky in January with the cup ties..... The Bristol City game especially drove me insane....

I'm not going to spoil anything about or finish in the league but I will say this FEBRUARY IS MY WAKE UP CALL.

                    Ipswich Town
A homegrown career with Ipswich Town Football Club

                    THE CLUB

A league title in their maiden First Division appearance. An undefeated home record in European competiton with wins over the likes of Real Madrid, AC Milan, and Barcelona. The boyhood club of England hero Terry Butcher. This is Ipswich Town in its glory, and despite having last appeared in the Premier League some 15 years ago, Suffolk's only professional club is undergoing a huge wave of change that will shape its future. Significant investment has yielded one of England's finest training complexes, as well as an upgrade in capacity at Portman Road to nearly 40,000. The stage is set for a grand return to English football's top flight. All that is missing is the playwright.

                    FLYING COACH

"When I got the call from Marcus Evans, it was like something out of a film from the 90s. I still remember I was at the training ground in Lancing. I'd just put out the equipment for that morning's session and had gone in for a bit of breakfast. I was buttering – well, low-fat spreading – my toast when my mobile rang with an unknown number. 'Telemarketer', I thought and answered in the hopes of putting an end to the nonsense. Instead, it was the biggest opportunity of my so-far still fledgling coaching career.

"The chairman of Ipswich Town had heard great things about me from Terry Butcher, who'd been in a few months back to see how we go about things at Brighton. Mick McCarthy had been told by his doctor to retire before his heart gives out, and would I like to come in for a cup of tea and a chat about the manager's position. I was by no means guaranteed to get the job, nor was I the outstanding candidate, but Terry's seal of approval meant I was firmly and solidly on the radar.

"What's a young fella torn between loyalty and ambition to do in a situation like this? On the one hand, I was indebted to Brighton for giving me my big break and letting me move up, from youth coach to academy head to first team fitness and nutrition coach. Another couple of years and I might well be considered for the top job at the AmEx. But the chance to manage my own club before my 35th birthday? That's the sort of thing you can't pass up unless you're with a club you've played 500 games for and been part of for decades. So I decided to do the right thing and speak to the bosses.

"It was that same evening that Chris Houghton and I were sat up in Tony Bloom's office at his mansion in Surrey. 'I have the offer of an interview at Ipswich Town', I said, refusing to mince words. I'd told Chris earlier on the way in, and he was stunned when he found out. Not in a bad way – just unsure of what to say. Tony didn't bat an eyelid. 'Are you interested?' is all he asked. I told him that I am, and he reminded me of how far I'd come with the club – and of how far I'd yet to go with them. 'But I refuse to get in the way of another man's opportunities', he said. 'I would rather you stay with us, but I'm not going to hold you back. Go and speak to Ipswich. If things work out, we'll be happy for you but disappointed to see you go. If they don't, you come right back into work and we get on with trying to get into the Premier League at long last'.

So I went up to Ipswich – with my agent, and Chris and Tony's blessings. I sat down with Marcus Evans and his advisors, and I wowed them to the moon and beyond with my ideas on the game. Two days later, I was out the door on the way to the gym when I got the green light. 'We can't wait to have you on board, Indi'. It felt like a wave of euphoria. 'You also have final say and absolute veto power with transfers, which essentially means you will have full control over who goes in and out of the first team'.

It was directly to Chris and Tony on conference. 'They want me', I said, hardly believing the words coming out of my mouth. Tony didn't hesitate to give his consent. Chris wished me the very best but reminded me that he would stop at nothing to get Brighton promoted. I said I expected no less and thanked them both profusely. Since I wouldn't sign for Ipswich until the weekend, Tony said he would speak to Paul Barber and have a going-away party for me the next day after training.

'It was a bit surreal when we found out, but it makes total sense'. Lewis Dunk, one of the smartest defenders and best lads I've coached. I saw him go from the U-18s to the U-21s and into the first team. Our career paths followed a similar rise through the ranks, and here we were on the verge of a professional separation after nearly 10 years working together. A lot of the other lads were upset to see me go. A few were stunned. Solly March was borderline inconsolable, what with how I'd yelled and fought for him to stay in the academy when the former director Jake Horsley wanted to release him for being too small. In the end, there were toasts and tears and a laugh or two. And when I collected my keepsakes and mementos and headed to my car, I wept like a child before leaving that parking lot.

They say every happy ending is bittersweet, and I could feel the very meaning of that expression as I made my way home. The next day, I'd notify my landlord that I'm moving and begin packing. I'd be done in two days. After all, how many possessions can a man have when he's single, in his early 30s, and lives a life that revolves around football?

Within a week, I was signed and unveiled to the media as the first British manager of Asian heritage to take charge in the Championship. I met my new players – my best striker is as old as I am
and spoke to them about how we would be approaching the game under my stewardship. 'I want to keep as many of you as possible', I said without hesitation. 'But some of you will not be automatic picks, and I know that may irritate. So I'm going to say this once. If you want to stay, I expect 100% and nothing less. If you wish to go, I will not stand in anyone's way. But I promise you, if you stay, you will be in the Premier League next season.' I got more than a couple of looks that told me all I needed to know.

Luke Chambers. David McGoldrick. Christophe Berra. Brett Pitman. Giles Coke. They were all clearly disdainful and doubtful. Winning them over? It would be too cumbersome and tiring. Not the sort of thing I want to deal with right off the bat. So they would have to go. Over the coming days, I would call each of them into my office and tell them that they would not be part of my plans. All but Berra would turn around and leave, telling me they would find a club with realistic expectations. Berra would front up and ask for time until deadline day to make up his mind. I would give it to him, and remind him that I would not let that stop me from recruiting a new defender if I felt one was required. We came to an understanding like men while the others left
                    – Chambers for Birmingham City, McGoldrick for Middlesbrough in the Premier League, Coke and Pitman for the reserves in the hopes that someone would come for them soon.

With the supportive and keen duo of Cole Skuse and Tommy Smith as my captain and vice-captain, I would go about initiating the squad in my 4-3-3 system. I quickly brought several players onside. Freddie Sears and Daryl Murphy became convinced I could help them both cross the 20-goal mark. Andre Dozzell, Adam Webster, Teddy Bishop and my first signing Grant Ward were excited to be important young players at a promising club. Luke Hyam and Kevin Bru had bought into my ideas and were sure I could help revitalise their careers. And with a few highly exciting players on my radar, our preseason tournament in Belgium was sure to be just the first step towards our ultimate goal of success
                    – on and off the pitch.

                    All a-f*cking-board.

                    RECRUITMENT POLICY

English players do not lack natural ability or technique. Their key weakness is the coaching system in England, which favours mindless exertion and physicality over tactical intelligence and spatial awareness. I shudder to think of how many world-class players we have tossed by the wayside in our fetish-driven quest for behemoths. As an English manager at an English club, it's my duty to make sure I help develop as many talented players as possible from across this country – as well as Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. They will be the focus of my transfer and development policy, supported by talent from tactically evolved countries like the Netherlands and Italy.

                    TACTICAL SYSTEM

Like I said before, I use a 4-3-3 that lets me alternate between a five-man midfield and three strikers. This means we can dominate possession in the middle of the park as well as overload the box in the final third. I need this to be built on a rock-solid defence, whose first job is to support the press, which is why I need complete players at the full back positions – perhaps converted, capable midfielders would do the job better than most men.

                      1-0 Win

Boring game for the most part, Wilkinson’s goal being the one highlight….

The fact that the replay ended up being a defensive masterpiece baffles me…. Seriously after an 8 goal thriller i was expecting them to thrash us but somehow we ended up winning.

Our fairytale run in the cup is over, it started well with Finn’s goal but our defense simply couldn’t contain the mighty Arsenal…..

                      2-0 Win

After only getting one goal in the last three games it was quite nice to see our starlet bag a brace.

                      Mansfield Town vs Dundalk

                      47’ Danny Rose

Can’t say too much about this one either. Our goal scoring form has fizzled out for the most part this month.

                        Season 6

                        The Mariners

                        April 2022

                        Grimsby Town 1 - 0 Chelsea FC
                        GRI - Dembele 29'
                        MOTM: Sidibe

We should have had more, but the win is the most important part. The deciding goal came in the first half when Sidibe played the ball across the top of the box to Dembele and he took a touch to the right to create space and then fired it low to the bottom left corner. The score never changed the rest of the way and we took all 3 points.

                        Grimsby Town 3 - 1 Manchester City
                        GRI - Banton 21', Cole 57', Phillips 82'
                        MCI - Iheanacho 16'
                        MOTM: Banton

We were very clinical in front of goal and took advantage of almost every chance that we created. We did fall behind early after Iheanacho got the ball played to him right in front of our goal with no defender near him and he beat the keeper on the near post. We equalized just 5 minutes later when Quiroga played the ball to Banton on the left side of the goal and he powered it past the keeper. In the second half a bit of luck went our way as the keeper kept out Banton's shot, but Cole was the first to it and he blasted his shot back at goal hitting the keeper once again, but this time it went up and hit the crossbar before going in. Then we put the game away with Banton cutting the ball on to his right foot and then floating an inch perfect ball over the top to Phillips on the back post and he headed it back across to the far post to double the lead.

                        Crystal Palace 1 - 1 Grimsby Town
                        CRY - Zaha 56'
                        GRI - Sidibe 10'
                        MOTM: Sidibe

It's a frustrating draw considering how we conceded, but at the same time we really didn't deserve a win either. We took an early lead after Boudebouz conceded a free kick and Sidibe smashed the free kick into the top right corner in stunning fashion. Unfortunately we got disorganized for just a minute in the second half and we lost Zaha in our box and after he was played the ball it was never going to miss.

Europa League Quarter Final Leg 1
                        Grisby Town 2 - 1 PSV
                        GRI - Dembele 33', Wolf 85'
                        PSV - Ramselaar 88'
                        MOTM: Paterson

It was almost the perfect first leg, but the late away goal we conceded could have much larger consequences. We opened the scoring when Paterson sent a cross in from the right wing and Dembele was able to rise above his defender and head it down into the bottom corner. With just a few minutes remaining Morrison was able to play Wolf through on the left and he placed his shot lot around the keeper to the far post. Unfortunately we broke down defensively in the final two minutes and two missed challenges allowed Ramselaar a free shot on goal and he placed it across the goal inside the left post.

                        Middlesborough 2 - 2 Grimsby Town
                        MID - De Sart 55', Ramirez 62'
                        GRI - Kelly 42', Cole 90'
                        MOTM: Vieira

We deserved a win tonight, but some lucky goals from Boro canceled out what we were able to do and we miss out an extra two vital points. We took the lead a few minutes before the half when Vieira played Kelly around the right and he took a touch before putting his right foot through the ball and fired it into the top left corner. They equalized after the break with a shot coming back off the cross bar and our defender lost out on the header and it was knocked down to De Sart in the middle of the box unmarked and he finished it off easily. They then took the lead off of a corner with Ramirez getting above our defense and powering his header past our keeper. It took until the very last minute, but we got the equalizer when Morris played Cole the ball on the right side and he just placed his shot low and out of the keeper's reach to the far post.

Europa League Quarter Final Leg 2
                        PSV 0 (1) - (3) 1 Grimsby Town
                        GRI - Morrison 80'
                        MOTM: Morrison

Admittedly we went very defensive in this match, focusing on maintaining our clean sheet more so than scoring goals. It paid off as we were able to accomplish that, and for added bonus we scored a goal to secure it. We got lucky on our goal with the ball bouncing our way allowing Sacko to play it ahead for Morrison to finish inside the right post. We would have advanced without it, but its still always good to be scoring goals.

                        F.A. Cup Semi-Final
                        Grimsby Town 1 (4) - (2) Middlesbrough
                        GRI - Banton 74'
                        MID - Morris 53'
                        MOTM: Robinson

What an incredible match, and for the second round in a row we advance on penalties. We fell behind as Morris tracked down a cross and got in between our two defenders and was able to finish witha first time volley into the back of the net. We continued to push forward though and were rewarded when Phillips found Banton on the left side of the goal and he placed it back across the goal to the far post. After that the game ended tied up and to extra time we would go. Extra time provided no further action and it would be penalties once again for us. Johnstone saved one, but it was matched by the other keeper. We had luck on our side though and their smashed one off the post giving us a lifeline and it was Griffiths who stepped up and blasted his shot off the crossbar, but it bounced down and crossed the line before coming back out and we advanced to the final by literally just inches.

                        MOTM: Kessie

We had so many chances to get this win late, but a few shots went wide of the post and another one was cleared off the line by a defender. The goal we did get was early on when Morrison played Kessie into space on the right and he blasted his shot from the edge of the box into the top left corner. Our defense let us down in the second half as we let Alli settle himself between two defenders and wait for the ball and once he got it he had an easy finish.

                        Grimsby Town 4 - 1 Sunderland AFC
                        GRI - Cole 3' (PEN), Kelly 28', Banton 57', Bennett 65'
                        SUN - Stojiljkovic 90'
                        MOTM: Banton

This was a huge win for us to keep our title hopes alive as we head into the final month of the season. Banton did well to draw a penalty just a few minutes into the game and Cole tucked it away. We doubled the lead then with Quiroga playing Kelly through on the right and he finished low to the far post. We extended the lead once again with Kelly having his shot saved, but Banton was the first to the ball and he finished it into the open net. We added our final goal to the tally off of a corner where Harris' header was saved but Bennett was able to it it first time inside the near post. They scored a consolation goal in the final minute to ruin our clean sheet after we allowed Stojiljkovic room to get his shot off from just inside the box and he placed it into the top right corner.

                          MOTM: Deegan

This was an absurd result and we should have won easily. Wimbledon just answered every goal we scored with a wonder goal of their own. Vassell opened the scoring after Foster got down the right side and played the ball across the face of the goal for him to tap in on the back post. Then we had the ball tackled away in our defensive third and Beere trapped it and then fired it from way outside the box around a defender and into the top right corner. We took the lead once again with Vassell sending a ball in from the right side and it was deflected up in the air and Evina was able to head it into the goal. But right on the other side of the half a long ball was played up to the top and we tried to head it away but it fell straight down and Taylor smashed it first time from 5 yards outside of the box and it settled inside the right post for another ridiculous goal. We grabbed the lead once again with Deegan playing Magennis around the right side of the defense and he powered his shot high over the keeper into the top left corner. It was canceled out though in the final minutes when Francomb got into space on the left side of the goal and he got the ball and all he had to do was beat the keeper for the equalizer.

                          Rochdale 2 - 1 Blackpool FC
                          ROC - Davies 21', 74'
                          BLP - Daniel 81'
                          MOTM: Andrew

We put in a terrible performance defensively, and we deserved this loss as a result. They opened it up as we got completely mixed up as they ran at us and we ended up with one defender against two of them and it was an easy lay off to Davies for the goal. Once again they attacked us in and wove through our defense with ease allowing Davies to once again make an unmarked run in and he finished it first time to the far post. We pulled one back late after Daniel jumped a pass from the keeper and he had a simple finish into the open net. We weren't able to grab another to equalize though and our defensive woes cost us here.

                          Blackpool FC 0 - 1 Port Vale
                          PVL - Cicilia 45'
                          MOTM: Tavares

We are struggling right now and at this point it looks like we are going to finish on the outside of the playoff zone. Our best chance of the day was snuffed out by our own player getting in the way before we could even shoot, and we are completely disjointed in the attacking third. Just before the break Port Vale went on the counter getting the ball up ahead to Cicilia and he took his chance early and drove the ball low into the bottom left corner from the edge of the box. That was all that was needed on the night and if we don't start looking like we've actually played together before, this is going to be a very disappointing ending to the season.

                          Southend United 2 - 6 Blackpool FC
                          SOU - Fortune 22', Ranger 31'
                          BLP - Philliskirk 18', 26', 80' (PEN), 90' (PEN), McAlister 57', Magennis 69'
                          MOTM: Philliskirk

What a performance when we needed it most. Philliskirk got his name called on the team sheet for the first time in a while, and he without a doubt made a case for why he should be starting every night. We opened the scoring when Philliskirk took the ball around the right side of the defense and slotted it back across the goal to the bottom corner. They answered right back as they overloaded our defense and Fortune got the ball through on goal and had a simple finish past the keeper. Philliskirk was on hand once again to regain the lead with Magennis playing him through on the right and he hit it first time past the keeper who was rushing out to stop him. Almost like clockwork though Southend equalized with an unbelievable first time strike from the edge of the box by Ranger into the top left corner. The second half was all ours though as we got the lead back once again with Philliskirk sending a cross in to the back post for McAlister to direct into the goal. Magennis doubled our lead with a great first time shot from the right side as McAlister played him through. A pair of penalties from Philliskirk ended the night as he brought his goal tally for the game to 4.

                          Crewe Alexandra 0 - 0 Blackpool FC
                          MOTM: Osborne

It was an entirely uneventful match, and our attack left a lot to be desired, but we got the results we needed to get into the playoff. Even though there is plenty to be disappointed in from this match, the fact that we kept a clean sheet is a good result before heading into the playoffs.

It's unbelievable that we didn't get through, but everything we put on target was frustratingly pushed away by the keeper. It's really disappointing to not have scored any in our home leg, but more importantly we didn't give up any. It will be a tough battle to get through, but it could have been worse.

                            Grimsby Town 1 - 1 Aston Villa

We can't afford to be having games like this. We dominated Villa, and yet we left two points out there. We opened the scoring with Kelly cutting the ball inside and then finding Banton on a run down the right and he was able to finish it across the goal to the far post. It didn't take them long to equalize though with Tshibola avoiding a tackle as he ran into the box and then powering a shot past the keeper.

                            MOTM: Paterson

We took a massive 18 shots and somehow it took us until extra time to put one of those in. Luckily, it was only one that we needed. We assaulted their goal all game long while they barely even got the ball into our final third. After playing to a scoreless draw in regulation, we went to extra time to sort this one out. In the 111th minute we got the break through after Paterson played the ball out wide to Cole and he caught the keeper by surprise by taking his shot first time and driving it low around him and into the back of the net. That goal sent us through to the final and we have a chance to take home some European silverware.

                            Arsenal FC 0 - 2 Grimsby Town

                            MOTM: Vieira

An important win, and every point counts down the stretch now. Kelly opened the scoring with a stunning shot from distance after Vieira played him the ball and he struck it first time across the goal and into the top left corner. In the second half we doubled the lead with Vieira once again playing the role of provider and finding Cole around the right side and he finished back to the far post.

                            Everton FC 1 - 2 Grimsby Town
                            EVE - Preciado 71'

Another big win, and we go into the final weekend of the season down just a single point from the top of the table. We scored first with Kamada finding Wolf down the left and he was able to place it back across to the far post. We double that lead after the referee awarded us a penalty and Dembele tucked it away despite the keeper guessing the right way. They did manage to pull one back to make us sweat it out the rest of the way when Preciado was able to head home a flicked on ball off of a corner.

                            Grimsby Town 2 - 2 Leicester City
                            GRI - Cole 54', Fenton 90'

                            MOTM: Osadebe

Gray cut in from the left and had his first shot saved, but it came right back to him and he buried his second attempt on the near post. Bad luck continued as they fired a shot from distance that came back off the cross bar and Amartey was there to head it back into the open goal. Osadebe split the defense with a great pass to get Cole through and he finished around the keeper to cut the lead in half. With the final kick of the match we grabbed the equalizer when Phillips played the ball across the box to Fenton and he was able to slot it past the keeper.

This was about as good of a performance as we could have hoped for in the first leg. Not only did we open a 3 goal lead, we kept them from grabbing an away goal as well. The opener came right before half with Philliskirk timing a ball perfectly to Magennis who was staying on the back shoulder of the defender and he finished it past the keeper. This seemed to really shake up Chesterfield and it allowed us to hit them on the counter just after the break as Vassell was free on the back post and Magennis played him the ball and he kept it low around the keeper. Vassell capped it off with a late goal after Evina's shot came off the post and he was able to control it and then slot it into the open net.

We got what we needed, and from the start we decided to focus on staying strong defensively rather than trying to get out on the attack. Our decision paid off as we shut them down in our half, and their only goal came off of some lucky bounces. It came off of a corner and the ball deflected off of one of our players and fell to the ground and Ragland fired a shot once he got to it that once again deflected off of one of our guys and it was just enough to redirect it past our keeper. But it wasn't nearly enough and we are on our way to the final for a chance at promotion.

Absolutely heart breaking end to our season. We fought hard for 112 minutes, and then it all changed with just a single kick of the ball. Park Seon Hong found some space to get his shot off and he let it fly from outside of the box into the left side of the goal. It was like a punch to the gut it was one that we couldn't recover from. We will be spending at least one more year in League One for the time being.

Mixed emotions with Grimsby Tex! Narrowly missing out on the title and winning the Europa League but falling in the FA Cup. Great season though. Similar heartbreak with Blackpool, but hey, you didn't want it easy did you?
