I don't experience anything like this, so clearly the patch does not affect everybody's gameplay equally.
Then, with this certainty in mind, you must ponder what the real cause of this anomalous behaviour could be.

since the patch the shooting is awful and the goalkeepers are so exageratedly good it is not football anymore. pro footballers just dont shoot so high and wide so often.

I must agree, I'm not noticing any difference.

Keepers are equally as world class as they were pre patch lol (but not to a fault). Some of the stuff they save and allow, I just SMH.

Guess that's like real life tho...

Matt, I started a new career (with V. Guimaraes) and set Width at 50. I'm in November (and have Europa League games too) so plenty of games.


I play 4-3-3 Attack and have set Width 50 in CTT.


The most prominent thing that I have been seeing different is that my Full backs see the space between their position and the edge of the pitch as a space they don't need to worry as much on their own, if I don't take control of them. Which is exactly what I was and am seeing if I play a game with everything on Default 50 (which makes me think this behaviour is not affected by another slider)


If I change team Width in CTT to something between 64 and 68, they seem to care more about that space. What I mean is that they will start closing down the wingers (on their own) a bit sooner instead of allowing them to get almost parallel to them before they rush to mark them.


Last night, I restarted this career and played 2 games but what I did is I added two world class full backs to the team with Marking over 80 but low aggression. I then restarted the career and played another 2 games with two different World Class full backs with Marking below 80 but aggression over 85). In both cases, I played the games with Width 50 and Width 65 on the slider, and mid-game I experimented with CTT Width as well. 15 min halves


My impression is that the higher rated Full backs reacted better than lower rated ones (surprise surprise) but when Width is..uhm..wider, this problem is lessened for lower rated full backs. Aggression affects how quickly they will run towards the attacker, Marking affects how well they are able to follow the attacker once they've reached them (on their own, without me controlling them). So, you could say that Width 50 allows more realistic behaviour i.e. crappier FBs will play worse and the difference when you sign a better FB will be more noticable.


BUT! As I said in my original post, ALL of this becomes irrelevant because you can change this by increasing Width in CTT. Which is something I would do because it is a tactical option the game gives me to adopt my team to a certain playstyle. (For example, if I play 5-3-2 which I do against really strong teams, the Wing backs are already stretched a bit further out, so Width is less important. They already occupy the dangerous area and they engage marking a bit sooner)


A few notes:
- Wingers are also affected in the same way but less significantly. They are not defensively oriented (stat wise) and even increasing Width in any way doesn't fix their lack of discipline completely (which is perfectly realistic for me)
- On attack, wingers linger less close to the edge. If you (anyone) watch games you will see that this varies from team to team and from winger to winger. When the FBs have the ball (in FIFA), the wingers align themselves to them and utilise space well regardless of Width. So it's a matter of where you want them to stand when the ball is abit far from them. Using different systems affects this too (e.g. Narrow 4-2-3-1 vs Wide 4-2-3-1) - plus you can change it by customely changing a Winger's position on the pitch to bypass Width by moving their position in Team Formation)
- The midfield is obviously more compact. Depending on the system you play, this can be good or bad. Again though, it can be changed by CTT Width
- CPU Width: My personal experience (call it placebo, call it whatever) is that the more compact width allows the CPU to play "better" because A) their passes have less ground to cover, which is even more important with the lower pass speed in the set and B) the more compact space makes it more difficult for the User to pass between them, forcing him to use Long balls and Lob Passes a bit more often, which are more difficult to get perfect when using Manual controls. This is all assuming the player doesn't edit CTTs for all teams to change their Width. But each oppenent will play different anyway. If you play against Bayrn Munich, the above are less prominent because their default width is 64. I haven't tested CPU Width at really low values, so I'm sure the rule I stated above isn't necessarily true for ANY value lower than 65. There is probably a threashold below which the CPU will play worse (players being too close will give it less options to attack)

Going to keep my feedback short and sweet. I implemented Krebster's CTT and your updated sliders. Admittedly, shortly after FIFA came out I grew tired of trying to find the right sliders and stuck exclusively to online seasons play (I like the variety); so this was me seeing if I could reconcile.

Your sliders and the CTT make this an immensely better game - and dare I say, very PES-like (I have it for the PS4). I still feel like the goals are not as frequent as they should be.

I prefer a 10 minute game and have to use assisted controls otherwise I can't maintain a consistent attack. Spurs (Me) vs Chelsea (CPU) home and away series:

Game 1: 0-0 (16 shots for the CPU, 7 for me)
Game 2: 1-1 (14 shots for the CPU, 12 for me)

I think all told, I'd like to tweak the goalkeeper ability a bit lower or perhaps the accuracy a notch or two higher. I imagine if I played 15 minute matches a few more goals might sneak in, but I like the pace at 10 minutes.

Mate, I play cpu v cpu, so...

BUT I believe when you play alone the gameplay is greatly affected by a number of things such as variable internet reception or when the ea servers go down the gameplay starts not making sense. I also believe that when you download a new patch it doesnt play right until you install a fresh copy of the game. I have tried and tested that last point for 3 years at am convinced this to be true.

Been mostly WC in my FIFA career but recently moved up to LEG.

Must vouch for LEG now. Forces you to be smarter and less care free as the CPU will get the better of you. Need to use Krebs CTT as well mate.

The FA Cup overlays are glorious. They look SO good. Just thought I'd leave that here.

Also, I am having such a good time playing this game. Sure, it has its shortcomings--but overall, I am having so much fun in my Arsenal Career (London Is Red). Just purchased Griezmann last night for a smooth £90M (they were asking £126M!!!).

What's the best difficulty to play on?

That really depends on skill level. Back a year or so ago when I played the game a lot I was on legendary, now after some months away, I'm struggling on World Class. In general though I'd stick with one of the two(WC/Leg). Anything lower and the AI suffers(IMO anyway).
