I spent a good bit of time playing this weekend and everything I thought I knew, well, lets just throw that out. I finished the weekend with more questions than answers and am hoping those who have played PES for awhile can help me out. Im gonna apologize in advance for all the questions.

    1) How the heck do you aim when you shoot? I went into training mode and held up and left on L stick (360) and it goes right down middle. I feel like I have no idea how to aim. Also, when Im in a game, I sky the ball over the net. I make sure Im not pressing turbo when I shoot but no idea how to fix this.

    2) Like I mentioned before, I seem to get pressured all the time. Everywhere on the pitch it seems they pressure me. I take it down the outside and even try to cut it back towards my goal and the defense always reads that cut. They dont shadow me but pressure me all the time

    3) Any tips on transfers or loans? When is a transfer better?

    4) How do you defend corner kicks. It seems Im at the mercy of the CPU as I dont have any control over the CPU cornerkicks. I just sit back and hope they dont score.

    5) How do you get position or win headers? I feel like if you arent the front guy, you never win header.

Thats all I have for now. Sorry again for all the questions. I like the game, just want to understand it a bit better.

This has been mentioned previously, but my advice on shooting would be to primarily focus on a) making sure your player is stabilized and b) the timing the shot. Getting a clean shot on frame when you're not off-balance, sprinting, or being nudged is the most important thing to do for shooting. Subtly aim, more than anything. As you've probably gathered, the shot power bar does not correlate with 'more bar= more power'. Generally, you don't want to go past midway on the power bar lest you balloon it over. The timing of the button tap is important, too.

Practice. Change of pace and unpredictability also help. Don't just try to blow by people with speed. You're likely to have much more success passing the ball around and changing the direction of play than trying to sprint past people or take people on 1v1.

Not sure what you're looking for. Loans are safer. Cheaper. You don't get players permanently, but they're a good route early on in your ML since they carry less risk. It's also easier to get quality players to come on loans than on permanent moves -- again, especially early on in a ML.

Adjust your in-game attack/defense settings to a more defensive posture to get more people to defend in the box. Try to control the defender that's more or less between the PK spot and the 6 yard box. Then adjust and switch players as the play unfolds.

Well, it helps alot to be in front of players if you want to win the ball. Beat them to the spot, in other words. Also, try jumping a little early. If it's a particularly dangerous play, use the 'clear' jump/header as opposed to the 'pass' jump/header. The 'clear' button will give you a stronger attempt at the ball and make it more likely you'll win the ball as a defender.

connoll3 - Thanks for the info. I would quote your post and say thanks, but that would take up a ton of space.

How do I check opposing teams strategies. People keep referencing the my OF might have all teams set to pressure and I have no idea where to check that.

As far as defending corners. I always take a guy in the box and try to get to the spot, but I rarely ever win a header, whether I hit pass, clear, shoot, or any other button.

            Re: new to PES

I was checking out ML on the PS3 last night and couldn't figure out how to look at a scouting report on a transfer. It showed a new scouting report was available but I didn't didn't notice any new info. Before I got the report, the negotiations broke down so did that impact it?

For training, do most stick with one option, mix it up, or manually set training?

Is there any way to edit the managers?

I try tapping the button and that seemed to help but I still seem to float a lot of shots. Is that caused by the players bodying me up?

I definitely dont try to blow by anyone by even if Im at regular pace at about 45m using the right trigger to "slow" dribble, it just seems like they attack and pressure. Where do I check the pressure tactics?

I still cant seem to figure out how to win headers. On corner kicks for the CPU, I feel helpless.

Mainly the things I want to "fix" are the constant CPU pressure, and corner kicks. Everything else is gravy

go into edit mode and team management. You can see how each team is set up there.

                    Re: new to PES

I'm getting much better at the game. My gripes with passing and shooting has gone down some as I am realized this has a lot to do with your players position when shooting / passing. As SIM as the game is, it makes sense that I don't always make the perfect pass and rocket my shots when in close. I've learned to really understand the players, his current form, body positioning and surroundings when doing either passing or shooting.

The area I am now trouble with is getting my Strategy to stick. I'm currently in a Champions League with Villarreal. While all the other items stick after saving and loading the Data Management (formation, player and substitutions management edits), each match the Strategy has reverted back to default (quick counter, opp, side attack, possession game, no strategy). Any ideas?

Excellent, from the top menu I see now that all settings stick, regardless of what match type I play (Exhibition, Champions League, Club League, etc...).

I checked the settings for the teams in my OF. I went to edit, teams, then game plan. Is that right? I looked at "Pressing" and some were at 10 (out of 20) and others were at 2, but yet, I still feel like they all move ahead. If I get ball on wing around the top of the 18, defenders in real life shadow, they dont dive in. When Im playing, they also come straight at me. Aggravating.

Could someone give some tips and advice on free kicks.

I've watched some youtube videos and practiced, but still don't have the hang of it.

Does it all come down to timing on button presses and stick movements?

I feel like I'm just wasting a possession unless I pass the ball.

                                Good info southernbelle. Thanks.

On shooting is my thinking on this correct.

Your going from left to right (-->) on the pitch. So when you shoot, your would want to push left on the LS to shoot toward the left post and push right on the LS to shoot toward the right post. Push up to shoot higher. You want to push only slightly and do it right as you kick the ball. Is my thinking correct on this and it doesn't matter which direction you're going, IE left to right or right to left on the pitch?
