    Master League Thread

Man i am loving master league... i have started one with AC Milan. i am playing 20 min games on professional. i leave the manager stuff to the CPU - though will tweak positions.

i am loving the challenge!!! i mean, teams play so different, you have to understand the style and adapt. i am forced to play quite a lot of players, and i love the form. really makes a difference.

one thing i have been curious about is have you guys seen long term injuries? from games or training?

other tips, advice on Master League?

maybe rename this and sticky it? this absolutely kills the FIFA - there i had to say it. HUGE gap between to the two offline modes.

      Re: Master League Thread

I had 1 inj for 5 weeks and another for 3 weeks from training.

There's so much depth in ML, they could print a whole seperate book, just to explain everything.

I'm playing with Liverpool at regular and -1 speed. I sit 4th in the BPL with 8W 4L 4D and 11W 5L 6D overall. My problem is scoring. Still trying to master the art of shooting.

I never played football growing up, as it wasn't really known or popular in the US. About 5 years ago I started watching, as ESPN was showing the UEFA Championship, and last year I meet a co worker who's from Liverpool. I really enjoy the chess match atmosphere of football and wish I had discovered the game so much sooner.

        Re: Master League Thread

I started with Norwich City in the nPower. I wanted to start low and work my way up, but after how awful my team is, maybe I should've started in the EPL with a better team. I'm only 2 games in after re-starting from an earlier ML. I sit at 1-1-0 with a goal diff of +2. Still trying to get the hang of transfers and all that.

          Tater,

          You play on XBox correct?

Did the OF you found have the lower leagues in it?

Yea, I'm on 360. Define lower leagues. It had the nPower, Scottish, and the other higher leagues (La Liga, EPL, etc)

              Re: Master League Thread

At the top is the single division of the Premier League (which is sometimes referred to as Level 1 of the league 'pyramid'), containing 20 clubs, all currently based in England. Below the Premier League is The Football League, which is divided into three divisions of 24 clubs each: The Championship (Level 2), League One (Level 3) and League Two (Level 4).

So nPower would be the level below Barclay's Premier League. The OF I found for PS3 doesn't have the nPower Championship.

Please sell me on this as I know nothing about it. Currently I am thoroughly enjoying League play with Villarreal and how it takes you through the Europa and Spanish Cup during Club matches. However, if there is a better aspect to this game - which I can imagine there is from the sheer popularity in the ML - then I'd be interested.

                Thanks

not sure i understand what the difference is between league play and MasterLeague? is league play just one season?

ML has everything you want in a sim. the main pitch i will make is that you have to really rotate your squad, unlike fifa. you have to rotate because of fatigue, injuries, form, trying to keep certain players happy, and developing your youth. you have to plan - really plan (and hope form is on!). so if i have 2 mid level league games, then derby with Inter milan, i may play ibromovich and pato in the first, but rest one the next so full strength for the next one.

also - ratings really matter in PES - unlike the other one. flamini is a great defender - really bottles it up in front of the back line. but he cant dribble that well and passing is just ok. and in Master League you have the tools to train/groom players. so if i want to spend the money - i could work on flamini's dribbling ability (not doing it though!).

then there is the transfer market. its both challenging and yet accessible.

also, teams adjust their profile and tactics as the ML progesses through the years.

finally - dynamic growth in the youth players and a solid (if not simple) youth system.

                  get ready for full immersion...

If you have the North American PS3 version, Pelegrini over at PESgaming is working on adding the Championship. His last release has all of the teams/kits created, but only 9 of the 18 included teams have real players. Unfortunately, his PS3 crapped out with 6 teams to go... so we wait.

Which leads me to a question for those logging ML time. I'd like to start one with Arsenal, but was waiting for that complete OF. With the delay, I was considering starting it now in hopes that all the edit data would import into an active ML. I can't remember if all edit data carries over... something from my days with the WE series tells me some stuff might not (especially attribute changes). Any insight?

Yep, league play is just running through one season with all the cups that entail. I've never checked out ML so not sure how to compare.

In ML, does anyone know why no games are played from Dec-Jan, when the transfer window is going on?

In RL games don't just stop for 2 months.

I know the Bundesliga has a winter break during the season and it lasts two months. Not sure if any other league does this.

                              Re: Master League Thread

had a great evening with my AC Milan ML...

so it was end of Nov/early Dec (just before Seri A break) and i ended the Champions League group and had my derby against Inter. I beat Inter, which was hard fought and had to come from behind. everyone was low on form, except ronaldhino who had a brace to pull us out 2-1. i tell you what, the skill stick/tricks is super effective with the right player. then i secured first place in the group stage, with Man U coming in second. i drew Cheslea for the final 16!!! ouch!

ended the the first half of year one 2nd of the table, trailing Inter by 2 points. now AC Milan has a full roster of 32 players, so i could not negotiate during the season - it will not even let you negotiate if you have a full roster. but this is another thing to highlight. negotiating transfer in between the window... that is awesome. i did sell two players (gattuso and Oddo) and loaned out 3 youngsters. the big problem with this is i missed out on the opportunity to bag 3 players i had the funds for: baleotelli, lukaku, and schweistager. all because i could not negotiate. too bad, but the only way i could have done anything different is to cut players, and i did not know what i needed out of my squad. so i missed out on getting a strong CF type. once i freed up some space, i quickly went after some talented AMF in Silva, Ozil, Nasri. initial bids on all three were accepted... so one of the bests parts came up - negotiation (i suggest you do these manually as opposed to leaving with scout). silva and ozil where very expensive, nasri not so much. i decided to bid down and take whomever i got. i landed silva first - happy as he is more "finished". then i was in a position to go cheap - but i pushed the price down on ozil and nasri too much.

the BEST part (from an ex fifa junky) is the bids made for players that arent listed... that is CPU teams dangling the cash for your players. i am on "regular" transfer activity and it was PLENTY. i had bids for pirlo, robinho, flamini, nesta, roma, zambrotta, and seedorf. with each i increased the initial ask by about 25%. with pirlo, robinho and nesta, there was no way i was going to part, so just kept bidding up - Real Madrid was coming after Robinho again - and they never broke off negotaitions.

Man U wanted seedorf. at the end of the day, he was not making a huge impact on the pitch, so i let the 34 year old go... for 21MM euros!!! back that truck up!

one word of caution... be careful when rengotiating contracts for current players. if they are not madly in love with the team, they may not go down in price. i may be without one of our keepers come next year... dont be frugal if its a key player!!!!!

but... first game with silva... lost to Juventus 4-2... at the san siro... ehhh...

                              chelsea next!
