I ended up in the Czech Republic, I enabled almost all of the eastern european nations though and started unemployed, ended up at FC MAS Taborsko. Took over in 2014/15 season with five games left, and just outside relegation, I guided the team to safety, then gutted the whole thing, signed a team of outcasts(whom I guess are above class in 2. Liga), and the board are expecting promotion, I wouldn't be disappointed to be fired, because the team was in serious need of an overhaul, and I did jump the gun in bringing in a new everybody (5 returning players, 0 returning staff). I would be angry if only because I put together a sweet staff. Tomas Rosicky is my assistant manager, and I found a coach that had 15 att, 15 def, 17 det, 15 disc. As well as the usual great U21's Coaches. Also, hilarious the mindset change, going from a 2.1M p/w wage budget to 11k, 27M transfer to 53k.

About a month into my FC St. Pauli save. Draws on draws on draws!
Drew 3 consecutive games out of the chute in 2 Bundesliga. Won my first game in the DFB Pokal, and just beat 1860 Munich, who had been tapped by the media to be promoted. I was very happy with such a quality performance for my first ever league win!

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Two things I'm curious about:
1. I always tailor my strategy to my players, for instance, right now, I play a 4-3-3, my first team wingers are Inside Forwards, as that is their best role, while my second team wingers are straight wingers, for the same reason, does anyone else do this? I have one striker set as a Complete Forward, another set as a Poacher and another set as an Advanced Forward, it's seemingly working as I obviously attempt to fill blank spots with pieces that fit, but do you guys force in tactics?
2. Squad Bonuses seem to genuinely matter this year. In my previous save at Bayer, the year we won the treble, I selected high win bonuses for all three competitions, then the year after, selected a normal win bonus, the players played noticably worse in league than the other two competitions. Has anyone else noticed this?
Also - really enjoying this Czech team they had a few good players that I sold, and have filled in with top division rejects, now I've sold a few of those, and we can upgrade the training facilities and youth facilities. Hopefully we'll be challenging for the top division title in 3-4 years, or at least Europa qualification. I also took a salary of 100 p/w, but, I put the incentives high, 6k if I get promotionSupport Local Sports

I haven't much run into this issue, aside from the first 10 or so fixtures, but then just running straight tactics without individual player instructions, normally has the same effect.Support Local Sports

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
I more or less do the same thing as you Suntan Superman. I usually just have 3 formations:
Control 4-4-2
Counter 4-1-4-1
Attacking 3rd formation that varies based on personnel. Right now it's a 3-1-3-1-2 (3-5-2). I've also used a 5-2-2-1 before (with Wing backs).
Within those, the roles I choose are often based on what the player does well. However, have some patterns. I usually try to pair a playmaker in midfield with someone who plays the BBM, CM, or BWM role. At Striker, I usually end up pairing an Advanced Forward with a DLF, TM, or P.
I have done this through my 12 seasons with the Sounders and my 3 seasons with AIK in the Allsvenskan (this is FM13).?The Bulgarian Brothers - a story of two brothers (Oggy and Dinko) as they coach in the NCAA and the NBA.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Maybe I didn't explain myself as well as I could've. I use three different tactics, but they're all variations of each other (right now, a 4-2-3-1), just tweaked for different game situations. Control (mostly home matches), Counter (mostly away matches, or if I'm holding on to a lead), and a very Defensive one for when I really need to just see a game out.
I do have a couple different pairings for my CMs, depending on if a certain player plays (he's really only good at a specific role).
But in the end, I like to have a standard "system" of how we play, and stick to that, since it also ties into how I approach training and how I choose to build my squad.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
I do the same thing. Either 2 (or 3 depending on how "creative" I am feeling) tactics, which are very close in scope (some type of attacking/countering/control/defensive combination of the same formation.)
I choose one "set" of tactics for the length of the save, and build my team around my tactic - not the other way around.badComment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
I generally do tactic first, players second. That's more mainly because I try to play a possession game so I need technically gifted players and more often than not, I start as teams who don't have them.
I also don't tend to stray too far from a 4-5-1, which is becoming a bit of a problem for me I think. I feel I'm getting somewhere with my current tactic (Attempt 6,931 with Leeds), but all my attacking players seem to have high technique for the Championship.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
That definitely makes sense. Since I spent so much time in MLS with the roster limits, I found I couldn't be too strict with player roles and I just tried to get talent and keep my team under the cap. Once I got that talent, I just changed the roles and shouts of the 4-4-2, since it's such an adaptable formation.
The same tactic probably isn't needed with my new AIK save since there aren't nearly the same roster limits. However, it's how I'm used to playing, so I've stuck with it.?The Bulgarian Brothers - a story of two brothers (Oggy and Dinko) as they coach in the NCAA and the NBA.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
I usually have 1 or 2 tactics and build a team around it. Either 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-3-2.
After almost being relegated last year, finished 5th in the league because of my keeper. Had a 7.17 rating, I think that's the highest I've seen from a goalie from my team. I need a Striker so bad, but I can't afford to pay wages of the players I want.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
So I hadn't been able to play for the last week or so when I was gone.
Y'all have me intrigued with St. Pauli - time to see how far we can get them. Normally they wouldn't have made my "Most Likely to Choose" list because of the loan debt (it's rare I play a team with one, unless it's a challenge-myself type game.)badComment
