Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***

Tactically, I'm trying something I haven't done in a while.

Bringing tiki-taka to Scottish football....lord help me.

I didn't really do much in the first transfer period. I brought in midfielder Aaron Kuhl on a season-long loan from Reading. Had a great seven game run then suffered a torn calf muscle and is out for five months. This coincided with the transfer deadline, so I brought in midfielder Jay Fulton on a five-month loan from Swansea.

It's not going too bad actually. Some of the guys still want to hoof the ball up the field at times, but for the most part, the possession based game I'm going for is doing pretty well. Yeah, I dropped my first match against Hearts and allowed a late equalizer against Falkirk. But we're only sitting a point out of first and still alive in all cup competitions, including a thrilling penalty victory over Hearts after we fell behind 3-1.

EDIT: Case of FM replicating real life. Couldn't find a right wing back I could afford right off hand, so I've been playing Fraser Aird in the position. In Rangers first friendly of the year, Aird was playing at right back.

Non EU guys need a work permit to play. It could be denied or accepted.

You can see whether a player will qualify for one through scouting. If it's unlikely, I just move on to another player. Not worth the hassle.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***

I used the Balotelli money to buy Maximillian Meyer from Schalke. This guy is the truth and is only 22.

My preferred lineup right now is:

                Sturridge (AF)
                Coutinho (RMD)-Meyer (AP)-de Bruyne (RMD)
                Bender (BWM)-Henderson (BBM)
                Moreno (FB)-Sokratis (CD cover)-Balanta (CD stopper)-Chambers (FB)
                Leno

We're probably going to finish 2nd to Man U. They had been up by about 10-12 points all year, but we've whittled it down to 5 with a few to play. Probably too late, but since the tactic clicked, we've been on a roll.

However, we find ourselves in the Europa League again. Missed out on a 1 seed by 5 coefficient points. Drew Real Madrid - again - as well as Sampdoria and Club Brugge. Lost to Club Brugge twice - both by 1-0 in matches we dominated. Right now we're in the quarters vs. Lazio.

Oh, and Man U knocked us out of the 4th round of the FA Cup AGAIN. **** them.

So I don't really do much commenting in this thread, mostly read with an odd comment here and there. Most of the time I don't feel like I have much to add as far as recap type content. But my next post will do that as I've had an interesting and eventful save going the last few weeks... Stay tuned.

I face such a conflict. I want to do a franchise report on this save. FM is one of the perfect games with the depth and what not.

But then I'd have to slow down.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***

I'm going to do a different post for each team I have managed. I normally stay with one team for the whole save but I decided to change that up, this save every team I manage I'll have goals to accomplish before I can move on unless I'm sacked. Here we go.

Country - Croatia, I like playing in eastern Europe.
Club - Hajduk, about the 3rd best team in Croatia.
Goals - fix the finances(club is in debt) and become the most dominant team.

The first season as Hajduk was pretty fun, we started the season already being deducted 3 points, I'm honestly not sure why but it makes the season a little more challenging. With no money to spend(negative bank balance of about 4 million), the first order of business was to unload some players who could fetch a fee that I didn't plan on starting. I honestly don't remember the players names as this was weeks ago but I got back around 5 million in fees for about 6 players total. This put the club back on even ground financially.

The club already had some really good young players in the team, namely Croatian goal keeper Lovre Kalinic(21), Ivory Coast winger Jean Kouassi(19?), and Bosnian CM/AM Tino Susic(22). The formation I chose was 4-2-3-1 as it fit the team best and I just like to use it.

We started out pretty well winning 4 of the first 5 and drawing the other, then we met Dinamo who currently dominate the league year in year out. We got thumped at HOME 5-0! Ouch. Plus Susic got hurt and would miss a month and at this time is our best player.

I decided to take a chance on the ultra young 17 year old Croatian AM Nicola Vlasic from the academy to take Susic's which is a crucial role in my system, he has the stats but he's 17 you never know what you'll get. He struggled at first and the team along with him drawing the next 3 games after Dinamo. This left us 11 points back of Dinamo in the league.

Then something clicked, I don't know what but whatever it was, it was a beauty to watch. We rolled off 8 consecutive wins, although only bringing us to with 8 of dinamo. Vlasic and Kouassi formed a perfect partnership, Kouassi is an inside forward who scores well and Vlasic is an assist machine, during the win streak Vlasic assisted on 10, yes 10, Kouassi goals. We had another match up with Dinamo, this time away, and we drew 1-1. Over the next few months we chipped away and chipped away at Dinamos lead including beating them at home, but we lost away this time. In Croatia there only 10 teams so they play each other 4 times. We also ended up winning the Croatian Cup! Back to the league before I get too sidetracked.

We entered the last day of the season with a chance to win the league, a point ahead of Dinamo but playing home to 3rd place Split, Dinamo was playing away to the bottom club. Dinamo was trailing the whole game after a second minute goal by the bottom club, but I knew we couldn't rely on that holding up. We couldn't score though, Split had the best defensive record in the league(we only scored 1 goal in 3 games and we lead the league in goals!). Halftime comes and Dinamo still trail, we're still 0-0. 60 minutes gone, bottom club scores again! 75 minutes gone, Vlasic passes out wide to Kouassi, Kouassi crosses in Vlasic gets a head to it GOAL!!!!! It's 1-0 Hajduk! But then FM... Split responds on an insta-highlight it's 1-1, but hey Dinamo still trail 2-0 I said. 85 minutes gone Dinamo scores a penalty , bottom team gets a red, oh no. 88 minutes, Dinamo score on another penalty, yeah you guessed it, another red, down to 9 men. 89 minute Split score again so we're losing 2-1 now. Dinamo would put 3 more goals past the bottom club in stoppage time, we would score again to draw the game but man that sucked.

Anyway it was a great season and if it wasn't for the point deduction we would have won the league so that's a good sign for next season.

Not much to say about season 2, we won all but one game and that was a draw heading into December, the before mentioned players were probably the 4 best in the league and we were up by over 20 points. But I got a job offer, and as much I would have loved to stay and finish the season, my job was done. The team was the best by far and the finances were looking spectacular. Never thought it would be such a short stay.

Just to wrap up and show that leaving was the right thing, Hajduk won the league the season I left and at least the next two seasons after. Job well done I say.

                      Next post tomorrow
Sorry it's so long if you read the whole thing congrats to you for being a real trooper

I love to read that stuff too, or love to read in general. That's probably the longest post I've ever written. And all on my phone. Tomorrow it will be my computer and maaaaaaybe what pictures I can get multiple seasons after the fact. Probably just league finishes for the new team. Maybe transfers I don't know.

I like doing season recaps but they take a good half hour of taking screens, uploading them, and constructing the post. Like jtw said, they take up precious time getting on with the offseason. I'm considering doing a video recap instead. That would take 5-10 mins. Just hope everyone can stand my hybrid Yooper/Minnesota accent.
