Yeah if you try to poach promising youngsters, especially from somewhat established teams, that aren't transfer listed, be prepared for some wild counter offers.

I've seen this plenty of times with my strategy with Spurs of scouting tons of U20 players with promise to buy on the cheap.

The most egregious was when I offered a club like $1m transfer fee + $1m more in incentives. They countered with like $58m lol

This game has the most legitimate transfer system in any video game, ever. If you're used to FIFA... got some bad news for you.

Also, if they counter with 17M (and he's not transfer listed) they'll normally sell between 11-15M
It may be the best, but its still 100% pure garbage if you are a non rich premier team. Which I guess makes it very realistic.

All I know right now is I am getting really tired of teams with millions in transfer budgets offering me deals like 68k for young key players on my team that have values of 1m+. And if I counter for 2M they either walk away, or come back with something like 89k. Its complete bull****. Yet if I try and make an offer to a team in my same league who is equal to players on my team like that, they instantly ask for insane amounts, like 17M. And if I try to haggle, they walk way.

I understand teams try to be frugal. But this is garbage.

The transfer system is quite the headache this year I'll admit that fully. It's very easy to get frustrated by it.

        Speaking of frustration...

I'm debating buying someone, but I have a ton of young strikers with potential so I think I'm just going to call them up to the Senior Squad, I have a 21-year old that was the star of my first youth intake lined up to start, then an 18-year old Danish striker who is bonkers fast, and great at finishing, but has no balance, no positioning, and is lacking in intelligence. Lastly I have Tyler Walker whom has developed into a leading Championship striker, but probably lacks the quality to be an effective Champions League striker. Worst case Götze can play striker, but I don't want to get to that. My two best prospects are out on season-long loans and I'm not really looking to call them back for 6 months. Oh well, there goes this season already.

What are the asking prices you have set for those players? Because that will effect the amount the AI teams offer, regardless of the player's value.

I don't have asking prices set, because I don't have them listed for transfer. They are just making me offers. And low balling the crap out of me.

I've been reading on this though, and apparently this is new to 16? It used to be much better in prior games from what it sounds like. That true?

I do the same thing in my saves to the lower clubs. It's all about getting the player upset that the bid wasn't accepted and hopefully it gets bad enough that the lowball bid gets accepted and you get a good player for cheap. It's something users could do for years that the computer has finally started doing. It sucks in my Swope Park Rangers save, but I can't complain about ways they made it so the game gets harder.

No one said managing in the lower leagues is fun, lol.

Just keep at it ZO, you'll learn what works and what doesn't. This game has a very steep learning curve. I had no idea what I was doing for the first two versions I had.

And that is the real reason I am upset about it. Because its causing all these players to freak out that I didn't let them move on to bigger clubs. I try and tell them the financials weren't right, but they say something about their career, blah blah. And then are unhappy.

I now get why you all told me to start with a top team first.

I'm echoing the same sentiments as Tim, ZO. This game does have a steep learning curve. I too get frustrated with the transfer system, but you can also work it too.

I know playing as a lower league side, you're not gonna get the same benefits as a big club. When a player complains, I ask what he wants and see what it takes to keep him. Sometimes, they'll ask for more money or that we qualify for promotion or a continental comp. If the player is one I want to keep, I'll make those promises. If not, tell em that you need to wait until an offer matches the valuation. Usually, they'll accept that and if no offer comes in, player will drop transfer request

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***

You have to ride it out sometimes....in a side save I mess around with (Dundee FC), I sold my star young striker to ManU for 2.3M. My keeper demanded a transfer because he was upset that I sold my young starlet. I had no intentions of selling him for peanuts (he had 3 years left on his deal). Aston Villa was interested in him, but they wasn't willing to pay what I wanted for him.

He stewed for a couple months (his morale was in the toilet and it did affect his performance), but he eventually dropped the issue and now he's back to being one of the top Scottish keepers.

And yeah, we as human managers used to do that all the time to the AI. Low ball them with offers, get player A upset, Player A demands transfer, AI drops asking price. Now the AI will do it to us. It's unforgiving...but then so is real life.

I used to feel bad about doing it, then you get knocked out of the Champions League by a team that scores the game winner on their only shot while your team can't put in the 20 they hit. FM always seems to balance everything out in the end.

All you have to do is look at the current saga with LFC and Alex Teixeira to see how this exact situation plays out IRL - even in the top leagues.

Coming down the stretch, and we're in a title race. United and City just keep ****ing winning.

Usually I would think that 4 points with only 7 matches remaining is too much ground to make up, but our final game of the season is home against United. Could be a very interesting/nerve wracking finale.

Every match feels like a must win with the kind of form United and City are in. I was playing against West Ham here, and it just felt like one of those games. Everyone here knows the feeling, I'm sure. Just one of those games that is not going to go your way.

But then 10 minutes into the 2nd half, Felipe Anderson did this and I double fist pumped, lol. Went on to win 2-0, but man I was relieved to get this goal.
