Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***

Well, a repeat of last season. We dominated the preseason cup and won. And then went on to dominate in the league. Pretty boring actually.

My youngsters have really developed well. The four I have been playing regularly have even all been called up to the national team at 18, 19 and two 20 year olds.

I was panning on leaving end of the season for a better/bigger job in another country. If I could find one. That probably wont be happening now. Because the AFC cup is scheduled in a crazy way. I mean, of course it is. We crushed the group stage against two teams from Maldives and a club from Bangladesh in our group.

Those last games were after our season was over. Now the next stage of the cup, the knock out rounds, is not until September. Four months after the group stage. During our preseason. So now if I want a shot at winning it, I have to stay another season. And I do want to try and win it before moving on. So I guess I'm here for a third season. But honestly I can't wait to be done with India. The crazy scheduling is just too much.

I was able to go on my National B course. So making progress there.

Have any of you guys messed with this?

The install instructions reference two folders: ads, and data. Neither of which I have (MAC). Should I just create those two folders, and it should work?

Not sure if any of you even bother with this?

It’s all fun and games until you lose 2-1 at home to Stoke cause Petr Cech gifts a striker a goal trying to be Manuel Neuer.

This game causes me to go insane at times. Had to step away for a bit today. Going to install the metallic logos. They’re nice.

How do you guys win away from home? My away from is atrocious.

Ended up resigning from Arsenal after getting beat 3-1 in the Carabao Cup Final. Going to go on holiday until May and see what opens up.

          Winning the Prem is hard.

Joining up with Lille, and the team is... just... i don't even know, they have no real squad depth except at attacking midfielder, because we had 5 of them, most of them not versatile enough to play another place on the pitch, I scrambled to find a tactic that fit the players I had to begin and ended up with a 5-3-2, but it wasn't great at scoring goals. I worked hard to sell some folks since I got the little glitch that changes your transfer budget to $0 and compensation budget to $0 when you join a new club. and I managed to bring in basically 8 new starters for the team while selling off some deadwood and trimming the salary from 600,000 to 400,000 since the club were also -11,000,000 in the bank when I joined, things didn't start out great for us

The Metz and Monaco games weren't actually close, even though the scores don't look hideous. After the nice 5-0 win I was hoping to get an easy cup draw to try and qualify for Europe through the back door

Nope, instead I get drawn with our biggest rivals, Lens. No matter, I thought to myself, our schedule shouldn't be too difficult leading up to the game.... welp.. Lyon(4th), Angers(5th), Nice(6th), Caen(17th)... well at least there is Caen! Then the schedule after the cup game doesn't get easier, Lorient(8th), PSG(2nd), Marseille(3rd), Bordeaux(7th), Nantes(11th). So over my first two full months I get to play 1-7, 11-13 and 17. I sit 16th right now, and really I'm just gonna hope to get a point per game out of these matches, I'm not sure how, but hopefully we'll find a way to stave off relegation.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***

Finished year 4 of my Journeyman save, first season at FC Platanias in the Greek Super League.

All in all, I thought it was a pretty mediocre season, but then again, this squad barely escaped relegation last year, and I sold the best player right when I came in, so my expectations were probably too high. We hovered around the bottom half of the table for pretty much the whole season. We had a real bad run of form at the end of the year. We had plenty of cushion, so relegation was never a legitimate concern, but we lost 5 out of 6, and could have finished a few spots higher had we gotten a couple more results there. Not a lot of depth on the squad, so I think we just got burned out.

The media seems to think I did well with what I had, because I actually won the manager of the year award! I was surprised to see that I had won it, but we had a very nice Cup run, all the way to the semifinal, so that might have had something to do with it. The media said we were the biggest over-achievers in the competition.

That award gave me a nice little bump in notoriety and prestige. I now have a "nominal" reputation... Lol

I found some pretty solid players on free transfers, and bought a central defender from Panathinaikos for $100k, with the money I got from the sale of the player I sold before the season.

There's not really one thing we do exceedingly well or exceedingly poor. It should be an interesting off-season, because I feel like we could improve in all phases of the game. Not quite sure what I'm going to focus on, but I'll likely need to find another starting level CB, and I'd like to have a creative midfield player, that's likely what I'll aim for.

All in all, not a bad first year, I'm going to shoot for an upper-mid table finish next season. It is nice to be at a club that has a little more ambition, or at least the financial means to be ambitious. I asked them to improve the training facilities, and they agreed. They are also willing to send me on coaching courses, so I will have the National B license shortly after the start of next season.

Oh, and I checked back on Trinec, the team I came from, they had a horrible season in the Czech 1st division. Only 2 wins. Going right back down. Hopefully it at least gave them a little more money being in that top division for a year. But I was bummed to see them doing so horribly, lol.

That moment you lay a freaking 0-2 egg in the NLD to Tottenham on Saturday, knowing a trip to The Etihad waits next weekend, but you have to welcome Barcelona to The Emirates midweek and hit 'em with this...

Was it away? Only reason I ask is I’m finding games away from home incredibly difficult, even when going up against crap teams.

This was home, but I checked my away record for last season earlier when I saw your post about form.

I had 2nd most away points (won the league) behind Man United in season 1.

That’s awesome. For whatever reason I can’t seem to get wins away from home. My home record is great, away record is awful.

Damn. I keep seeing people getting these golden generation intakes. Mine always suck for the most part. Maybe two good players at most.

Of note, I think the last one I got was what I'd consider a "true" Golden Generation, 5 of the 8 best prospects from that class were first team quality players by 17(some obviously lower than others, but yeah) This one looks like it'll have one player who's ready to start out at 16/17 in the goalkeeper, but the rest are probably 20-22 starters.

Imagine getting promoted after finishing 8th in the league because reserve teams can't be in the 3rd division in France.

We ended up winning the AFC Cup. I didn't realize India is the biggest country involved in that thing. India is super boring. I couldn't take it anymore. I stepped down the day after the final.

Four months later I finally got offered a job. I applied for and was interviewed for like 25-30 jobs. It was nuts. But finally got a job in South Korea second division, the K-League Challenge. With Daegu FC. They finished second last year and lost in the promotion playoff. Expected to make the playoffs again, and predicted to finish second again. However, despite the club having the same reputation as me, I'm dealing with this:

I'm thinking its not going to go well. Also because I have to cut wages by 5K a week. Part of what got me the job is them complaining about fiances and so I said I'd take less wages and transfer funds. The amount they gave me was 5K below what the club is spending. Then I find my best player (Cesinha) is on 4.9K a week. 3.9K higher than anyone else at the club (only two players make 1k a week, everyone else is 800 or less). So he has gotta go. And in doing so will make more players oppose me. Should be interesting.
