Is there a reason why when I select Championnat National 2 as a league its greyed out when I go pick a team?

I'm still testing it out but I can see that happening. I hate using fullbacks so this is pretty good for me having them play like DMs when having the ball while cover the wide areas without it.

I too, was guilty of thinking nobody cared about the 'normal' (cookie cutter) saves. But, given the recent feedback, I'll update you all on my Arsenal career with a recap of Season 1:

Very successful season to say the least. I was disappointed not to win the Europa League, but RBL lit me up pretty good in the final, lol.

Here's the final league table and PL's Team of the Season:

Much of the success was thanks to club record signing, Alexandre Lacazette. Fair to say it was a good ROI for Season 1:

Here was the January Transfer Window activity. Quite profitable, pun intended...

Brought in Smalling for the aging Mertesacker, as he's able to play a strong defensive role, as I try to move into a 3 at the back system. Brought in youth too with Sarr, Kohr (CDM), and Cerny, to play the IF role from the RW. Very promising--you should check him out if you use that role/position.

Alexis wouldn't resign, so had to get something for him, and wound up £45M from Monaco, which was the only club who offered, outside the PL. Good riddance. His sale allowed me to fund most of the incoming transfers. Also was able to resign Ozil for £225K/week through 2021.

            Random Notes:
Both Pep and Klopp fired midseason. Replaced by Carlo Ancelotti and Jorge Jesus, respectively. I'm into Nov 2018 and both are still unemployed.

Danny Welbeck was outstanding, scoring 7 goals, adding 8 assists, 4 PoM, and a 7.56 average rating (16 G, 12 A in all comps). Playing him as the IF on the LW.

Lastly, the 10 most expensive transfers in the PL:

Pep and Klopp always get fired. This game just doesn't like them.

It's strange how often they get fired, in my save, in 2022, Klopp is back at Liverpool though, after Luis Enrique, Roberto Mancini and Quique Sanches Flores left for Arsenal, Italy, and Juventus respectively.

                Also, re: pressers

Yeah journo he should definitely win... uhh. that award, whatever it's full name is...

This is how I started my season

I thought to myself, this league is ****ing easy and this new tactic is amazing.

FM had other ideas, currently on a streak where everything sucks and I'm making tweaks to the tactic every game.

I've noticed this in all my saves from last year's to this year's versions.... Pep will spend €300m every season, win nothing and then get fired 3-4 seasons in. For the most part.

Then he's never heard from again... lol

I've mentioned previously, but I got FM18 this year after playing FM13 for the last 5 years. It's been awesome. I expected some changes in how tactics worked, but one thing has been extra surprising, frustrating, and wasn't sure if you guys had insight.

In FM13 when I had a team with a more limited budget, I'd switch to a 3-5-2 so I didn't need to worry about getting fullbacks at all, so it's 1 less position to fill. I would get tall CBs and encourage teams to pump in crosses all game while the 3 guys at the back took care of all of them. In FM13 it worked great. I took a Swedish team (AIK) to the Champions league group stage and knockout stage several times, even tying Barcelona, beating some EPL teams, etc.

In FM18, the tactic cannot stop opponents at all. It's like the 3 CBs have constant brain farts and never mark anyone who comes into the far side of the 6 yard box (not even 18 yard box, just don't mark in the 6 yard box). It's not forcing many crosses at all, despite clogging the middle with 3 CBs and 1-2 CDMs, teams just work the ball into the box.

I've had way better luck with regular 4-4-2 or similar formations, and was just curious if you guys had any thoughts.

I haven't really tried a 3 at back system this year. But have you looked at player instructions and set them to mark tightly and play narrow? Also to be more disciplined?

Thanks. I've tried a few things like mark tightly, mark specific player, and to actually play wider (hoping they would stop ignoring guys cutting into the box). It helped, but not enough, and despite having 5 talented midfielders, I couldn't win the possession battle. A vanilla 4-4-2 with the same players always seemed to have better results.

I should try the more disciplined thing to see if that helps though, that's the one thing I don't think I had them focus on.

I'm tempted to chalk this up as a quirk of FM13 vs 18. Perhaps it was too effective in 13.

In my last post i mentioned how I finally had a chance to complete one side of the pentagon... well we got knocked out in the group stages.

We also failed to qualify for the champions league for the next season, so I planned for this season to be a chance to build a younger core that could develop together. I made five new additions to the starting 11, all 23 or younger. For the first few games we struggled to put together a complete performance, but then in the 5th game of the season things finally started to click. Then four of the five new signings proceeded to get hurt and I got sacked.

FM in a nutshell. The game gives you hope, rips it away, then gives you just enough hope again so you keep going and BAM! Half your team gets hit by a bus.
