Me too, As I mentioned above really struggling to get into a save this year -
Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
I somehow always manage to find a team that pulls me in and I end up playing a long term save with them. Last year it was Deportivo, this year it's one of my favourite teams, Athletic Bilbao.
This is the league table at the moment. It will be interesting to see how will I finish the season, hopefully I'll stay in the top 4 and get a chance to play in the Champions league next season.

My best game so far. Going into the game, facing Barca at Camp Nou, even though they are struggling badly this year, I would've been happy with a draw, but my god was Inaki Williams inspired and unstoppable.

How do you guys develop young gems, for example Oihan Sancet. I give him the playing time every chance I get, whether it is someone tired who needs a bit rest so I start him, whether it is leading by 2 goals or more and I feel the win isn't in danger so I sub him in. As you can see, he's really playing constantly, but he's still at 2.5 half stars, same as he was at the start of the season, should I be worried and look to do something about that or is that normal, that he hasn't progressed in more than half a season?SpoilerComment

I'd suggest to look at his training, what unit he is in, what your training him to be, keep an eye on his training levels, and don't be afraid to criticise his lack of development, depending on his personality normally they have a good reaction and push a bit harder to develop for a few months.
Ultimately, star ratings are....well just an opinion of your assistant or coach on your staff, it only suggests he may become a 4 star player not a guarantee!, there's other factors involved in a player reaching his full potential such as the training facilities, the coaches you have and how good they are!, maybe take a look at your current coaches and se if you can upgrade/ask the board for more coaches!.
Sometimes a player just doesn't live up to expectation and might be worth cashing in on him if a good offer comes in....also, sometimes players develop later i guess it's your call what you do with him Gaffer!
Hope this helps!
I decided to take over a team struggling at Christmas time, mirroring real life Sheffield Wednesday are bottom of the Championship, manages to pull the out of relegation danger but still not safe yet!, getting hooked on this save!Last edited by Matty Aqua; 02-26-2021, 06:19 AM.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
In my typical Viborg save, doing many of the things I've done over the years, and as always in FM, I'm a bit of a cup specialist, and we make the Danish Cup Final against our primary rivals in FCM, we've got a good record against them since getting promoted, but they are still the more talented team. I can't say I expected the game to be like this though.
Spoiler
An 87th minute go ahead, a 90+1 tie, a 90+6 winner in an absolute slugfest.
My heart is pounding, and man did I miss this feeling after playing what felt like many meaningless matches in my previous saves. Love this game.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Part of the reason I haven't said much is even for how much I've enjoyed the game(and it's a lot) I've played so much over the last 10 years, that I kind of feel.... out of ideas? I spent pretty much every save pre-winter update so far jumping around, and not really sticking with anything. I started my yearly Viborg save just because I feel so out of ideas.
But after multiple years I'm starting to fully get everything, and I'm doing quite well. I took over Boston United, finished 3rd in Tier 6, won in the playoffs to get promoted. I've literally never won in a damn playoff. In FM 20 I was stuck in Vanarama National, made the playoffs 5 straight years and lost 5 straight years.
In my first year in Tier 5, I made wholesale changes and somehow ran away with the league, getting 106 points in my first season.
Started off with an incredibly long unbeaten run in Tier 4, was sitting in 2nd and in the automatic promotion spots. Hit the tougher part of my schedule and some reality hit. I'm now squarely in the playoff picture with 7 games left, but it seems doubtful I'll be automatically promoted. Honestly I'm a bit worried about climbing too quickly so maybe it'll be okay to get stuck for another year or two.
Either way, completely sucked in. Loving the newer press conferences and the player chats. Makes me feel like everything is more important/real...even if it isn't. Trying to be more involved with training too, which I used to ignore completely.Teams:

I was wrong, I finished 3rd and am now about to go into the transfer window headed into League One. At some point reality is going to hit, I just don’t know when...Teams:

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
I haven't played much FM this year. But I got the itch recently and started a save with some house rules. I can only take jobs offered to me, I can't apply for anything, even if I don't have a job. Only whats offered. And I can't scout, I can only sign players scouts bring me. And the DoF/HS set the scouting, I only look at reports and sign how I think we need/fits. Goal is to try and win the CL within 10 years.
After sitting the entire first year out Palace offered me the job with the goal of fighting against relegation. And this is what happened in our 17th game of the season...
I haven't gotten this excited about an FM match in some time.
Liverpool in first, we came in at 12th. Now 8th from this win (but everyone around us has 2-3 games in hand). I fully expect to get FM'd in my next few matches now and to get corrected back down to around 14th or so.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Season One in the books. Overachieved big time. And in debt. Only 18M to work with. Probably gonna have to sell Zaha due to interest and the price I can get. Also losing Ayew on a free, refuses to sign new contract. Also Kouyate and Milivojevic both have 10+ clubs with major interest. So I should be able to get good money to bring in good younger talent. But I'll be losing the the entire core of my key players in one go. Which is never a good thing. Bringing too many new players seems to not work like it used to in FM with all the morale/dynamics stuff.
Leeds ended up relegated and steals the Europa Conference playoff spot from Aston Villa. We look like we were in contention for that stolen spot. But we really were not. We were up there. But fell away hard. Our last 13 games of the season:
Going into that Norwich game we were in 6th. And I thought we could hold on and make it. But we fell apart. Morale took a big hit from those four losses in a row as well. And then a few key injuries and it was sealed. I'm surprised we finished above Spurs. But they were too concerned about the Europa League to worry too much about the league I guess. And then they lost in the final to Chelsea. So they get into the CL.
Really hoping my over achievement has a bigger club come in for me. I don't think I can reproduce it. Failing to get into one of the three European competitions is a big hit money wise. So the only way to rebuild the squad is to sell players. But only the good ones are wroth anything. Half the squad is sub par. No good youngsters in the pipe either. If I say, I might end up getting fired for being in a relegation battle.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
You Arsenal guys should appreciate this..
Arteta still in charge. Apparently just signing Mikkel Damsgaard, Declan Rice and Georginio Wijnaldum was enough with the current youngsters to get it done.
We were able to hold on to everyone and make some good loans to fill in gaps. So now I fully expect an implosion this off-season. Hoping I get offered another job, but nothing currently open better than Palace.Last edited by Zac; 05-12-2021, 03:40 PM.
