Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***

So there I am, minding my own business after a wildly successful first season at Wrexham when my boss Ryan looks over at me and says "hey wouldn't it be funny if I sold the club to a tycoon?"

Before I could protest that I took this job specifically to work for him, he follows with "cause I sold the club to an American tycoon."

Dumbfounded, absolutely dumbfounded. My first ever natural tycoon takeover and it happens on the save where I literally chose the team based on the owners. Now I really get to play on easy mode. The guy pumped $30 mil into the club on day 1. He also agreed to immediately upgrade the facilities, both main and youth, and increase youth coaching budget. Also agreed to give me a new 3 year contract. Lucky me I guess. I'm about to be a League 2 club with a $20 mil balance.

Well I may as well provide an update. Wasn't actually given much money to spend in League 2, I mean more than anyone else in the league but Wrexham was already spending like a League 2 team in the National League. Think I was given around £200k and a wage of £78k per week. I still did my usual free transfers and loans. Upgraded all the facilities and youth stuff. Facilities are now at state of the art/excellent for training, exceptional/good for youth coaching and recruitment.

Still in the second season but confirmed promotion on March 8th and lead the league by 14 with 8 games to go. Still £20 mil in the bank. Honestly if you take away investments and spending on upgrades, the club is running at a small profit. New budgets for League 1 are £9.9M and £236K. Probably won't get close to either of those, I don't usually start spending money or bringing in players with an eye for more than 1 year until I get to the Championship.

Been a really fun save so far. Look forward to catching up with and passing the other Welsh clubs and might even turn this into a club and country save and try to win the World cup with Wales and will win at least 1 Champions League with Wrexham.

After never getting far into a save in 21 without leaving it after rushing into it, I'm really enjoying going nice and slow so far in 22. Started with Arsenal, as its traditional for me to try and clean up that mess, and I know the players, etc.

Finally worked my way up to the first of seven preseason matches I've scheduled and called it good for the night. I'll go and review the match in detail tomorrow and play around with some scouting and tactical adjustments, but I'm enjoying the slow pace I've set for myself so far. It could be several real-time weeks before I get to the regular season at this rate, and I'm quite alright with it.

Anyone else play at a rather slow pace?

Haha, I might have been exaggerating, especially now that I'm actually in preseason games and not playing around with staff, training, etc. But playing on comprehensive highlights and looking at deeper stats during halftime definitely made one friendly take fairly long.

As I'm trying to 'impose my tactically philosophy' or whatever silly way we want to look at it, I've just been checking to see if play is occurring how I want it to. Pass combinations, where players are receiving passes, who has the most passes overall, average positions, dribbling movement, etc.

So, really, I'm more looking at 'analytics' and not just stats.

But that's mostly due to me want to really get a tactic working before my opening league fixtures against Liverpool and Man United hahaha.

But even watching comprehensive highlights, it's nice to check those analytics (to me, at least) and be like whoa, why is Tomiyasu dribbling so damn much? (I didn't see it often in the highlights) Better go tell him cut it out and move the ball on instead.

Another good example is in my first game I had Lacazette as my striker and I got feedback that he wasn't having a good game. Well, when I looked at the pass map (after the match) I saw he was basically entirely isolated and was not receiving passes at all. Immediately made me realize I better change how that position is playing, etc.

I was able to go on a spending spree by getting Gareth Bale and David Silva to further bolster my team. I am primarily looking for Spanish talent and build a good Spanish Barca side.

Ended up finishing 3rd with Arsenal, even after the worst December I can remember. However, my winter transfer window was the difference maker. After that awful slide I won 10 matches in a row.
