Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
OK dumb question time before I start a save. What are the advantages/disadvantages to selecting multiple leagues. I can only see myself wanting manage in England, Spain, Italy or Germany. Should I just select these 4? Will I not see the tables, stats, etc for the other leagues.
In short, the player Db is larger with the more leagues you load.
Less leagues equals faster processing times for your PC, but if you have a decent machine you can run a bunch without noticeable slowdown/wait times.
My suggestion would be to load only the leagues you'd ever possibly want to manage in as playable, then load a bunch more as "view only", this way you get all the players, stats, tables etc without as much slowdown (at least I assume it works this way).
Another choice if you want a ton of players is to load a custom setup, where you can individually select to load all players from a country, region, continent or all international players or all first division players.....the choices are really endless.
If in doubt just do what I did, load more! It makes for a better game IMO.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Firstly, I'd like to say that I've expressed no interest in signing Beckham. Where this "email" came from, I don't know. The real issue with this is not whether or not I wanted to sign him or not; the issue is why do Napoli supporters hate the Los Angeles Galaxy? Is there some weird rivalry between the two clubs I'm unaware of? They don't show up as our rivals in the information screen (even though half of Italy appears to).

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Could it be that Beckham played for Milan that you got that e-mail. It is weird though....
Nice work BruinsI too have some good news. 1 for 1 against Madrid in my mini-series of 2 games. I took them out of the Copa del Rey with a solid 2-0 win at home thanks to a solid game from Iniesta
My next match is at the Bernebeu against Madrid. I really need to rest Messi, but because Henry got hurt in the last game, I have to get him through the next match before I give him a rest.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
You can't buy greyed out players, and if you don't load a lot of leagues (at least as viewable) there will be a ton of greyed out players.
The other option is to just manually load players from certain nations, regions, continents etc.
All in all I think I run my game with about 6 or 7 playable leagues (England down to level 10, Italy, Spain, Germany, France, MLS & Arge). I have a total of about 123,000 players in my Db, and my game runs pretty damn smooth on a Intel Core2 with 4GB of RAM.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
I'm pushing my laptop, but the game really isn't running all that slow at all. I have loaded every first division player from every continent and every international from every continent. I also have these leagues loaded, all set to playable:

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
So I played my big match with Manu at Old Trafford last night.
I wasn't expecting a whole lot, but I never expected the result that occurred.
In the end I lost 3-1, but I dominated possession (57% to 43%) had 12 shots, 4 clear cut chances & hit the woodwork twice all while pretty much containing Manu.
The problem came when they scored 3 goals all from corner kicks, Berbatov bagged 2 clean headers while virtually unmarked, and Ferdinand slotted home an easy goal at the far post. I can't figure out why my marking went to sh!t on corners, I hadn't conceded a FK goal all season, then United comes with 3, all in a span of about 20'.
Highlights included Henrique rounding the keeper, with Pavlyuchenko snapping up the ball & slotting it home from inside the 6 yard box. Pavy also hit the post on a rocket from 20 yards out that would have tied the score at 2.
Oh well, I didn't expect to win on the road to United, but I certainly didn't expect to lose in this fashion.
Now I have a 2 week break because of rescheduled matches & internationals. I'm not sure what to do with all the free time other than attempt to tap up opposing players. I've been working really hard on getting Daniel De Rossi & Davide Stanton to like me.....hasn't worked yetI'm really just taking this time to prepare for the January transfer window, if I'm still in the top 4 I will probably look to upgrade multiple positions in a push for CL play, otherwise I might just sit back & work on selling some of the extra parts that I have.
My main areas of focus to improve on are as follows:
Striker: Really need a true target man who can hold the ball up & get my mids involved. Milevsky, Dzeko & Berbatov are on my wishlist currently.
LB: Bale & BAE are decent & young, but they aren't the type of quality that a CL squad should have. I really don't know who to sign, but Stephen Warnock would be a nice improvement, and he's English. Stanton is one I would really like, but I highly doubt Inter would sell him. Any suggestions for a top quality LB/LWB would be greatly appreciated.....
Left MF: Krancjar is pretty good, but I would like someone more exciting out on the left wing, in the mold of Angel Di Maria. Ashley Young is another player I'd love to bring in, but is probably unattainable. Someone with some speed & skill at crossing the ball. As a team my cross completing% is horrid.
EDIT: Still hanging onto 2nd place with 17 points from 8 matches, 11 goals scored, 4 conceded. United sits top of the table on 22 points. L'pool, Wigan & City are close behind me, with chelsea & arsenal fumbling around mid table.Last edited by Hutton; 02-11-2010, 10:59 AM.Comment

That's what I do, as well. Runs nicely for me. I even keep it on in the background a lot, and it doesn't effect performance that much just idling.Comment

Here's my first eleven for the new season, some familiar names:
I must say, Sal Zizzo has been a really good pickup for me. Anyone using a lower level squad that needs an AM, I recommend him.Comment

For a good fullback, if you can raise the cash, get Diego Renan, Domenico Criscito (Genoa/Juve), Christian Ansaldi (Rubin) or for someone older to tutor Bale, maybe Molinaro at Juve (7.5 million should be enough). All are decent crossers and great full-backs.
I'd just bring in Di Maria if you can as a winger as he's the best bet for what you're looking for. I know he's expensive, but he's young and will only get better. No one really comes close except Young who will cost you even more.
Back to my Barca season, I just managed to beat Real Madrid twice in a row. In the Copa del Rey, I beat them fairly easily 2-0 thanks to Iniesta and Busquets who scored at home.
Our next game was against Real Madrid at the Bernebeu and Real dominated me and had it not been for Valdes, I could have easily been down early. However, Pedro scored a sweet goal to put me up 1-0 and Busquets again scored to give me a lead I would not relinquish. Raul scored to make the game close, but I have swept Real Madrid in 4 games this season. The last game was tough, but I was glad to come out with a solid victory
Next up - Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Copa del Rey quarterfinals. I'm hoping to have Xavi and Henry back as both have been injured....Thiago did a job filling in as did Bojan
In terms of transfers, I have a deal in place for Cesc, but am looking at adding a winger. I want David Silva, but he's going to be expensive and I'm trying to stick with Spanish players. I looked at Jovetic, and have started tapping him up
I also need a keeper to back up Valdes and eventually replace him. I've praised Asenjo, but to no avail. I might just re-sign Pinto for another season in the meantimeComment

I will look at all those suggested FB's next time I load up the game.

Maybe I can swap them one of my excess strikers lol along with cash???

Could you imagine the heads that would be chopped if Barca took 4 straight from Real IRL? I love it. God I hate Real....not sure why, I just do. Probably because Beckham played there.

I would snatch up someone better than Valdes if I were you.....I really don't care for that guy. He gets the job done for sure, but you could easily land one of the top keepers in the world outside of Buffon & Iker.
The keepers I always want to sign are Ochoa & Ustari, but I'm not sure how they rate in FM10. With Gomes at Spurs I haven't really focused much on keepers....he does a hell of a job for me.Comment
