Re: ***The Official Arsenal "Gunners" Thread***

I wouldn't be surprised to see Eboue on the left flank to help out defensively with Messi and Alves. Certainly not ideal from an attacking standpoint, but Arsene made sure to keep Arshavin off the left side in the first leg, so it appears he's at least somewhat concerned with having some cover there.

    I think we'll see:

    Sagna - Silvestre - Vermaelen - Clichy

    Nasri - Denilson - Diaby

    Rosicky - Bendtner - Eboue

With Wenger saving Walcott for another super-sub appearance.

PS - I am Mikael Silvestre. I will never forget what all of you have said about me when I score the winning goal from a corner in the 87th minute.

I'm working but obviously taped the game. I got my new Arsenal jacket and Fabregas jersey all ready I even ordered an infant kit for my little one.

I obviously want us to win, but I think the 2 away goals they scored are going to hurt us. Having said that, we play the games for a reason and hopefully we can find a way to go through

After Messi scored his fourth, I just smiled and shook my head.

I was very down before that, but after that, it's all I could do. We shouldn't beat Barcelona at this moment in time, so I'm fine with not doing so. Plus, there is no shame in losing to absolute brilliance.

When you think that we're basically missing half a team of players that would hands down start, the result of this only could go one way.

We lost to probably the best team in the world....no shame in that. Plus, we were as UglyOrgan said, missing our best players - Cesc, RVP, Gallas, Arshavin, Song etc etc

Yeah, there's no shame in that at all. I just wanted a trophy this year, and it isn't looking like we're going to win the league.

I know we're in great position for the future given how young we are, but I'm impatient.

Not surprising, Wenger has come out and said we'll have to spend in order to compete.

Didn't he say the same thing after United eliminated us last year?

Anyway, apparent targets are Jack Rodwell, Neven Subotic and once again, Bret Hangeland.

With reports already stating Chamakh has agreed to a four year deal.

Signing all of those guys still won't be enough if we don't go out and get a quality keeper.

Agreed....give me names like Lloris, Adler, or Akinfeev and then I'll feel better

Late, but it's not like Barca was full strength either.

That tells you how good they are then. Very deep squad.

I don't put much stock in reported "targets", but just for fun... I can't see Wenger signing Rodwell; Everton might cash in, but I believe SAF is said to be a huge admirer of his (again, rumors). United likely wins in a battle for his signature IMO.

I'd take Subotic over Hangeland, but that might be my Dortmund MM talking. He might be the more expensive of the two, but Fulham supposedly played hardball as well when Arsene reportedly sniffed around Craven Cottage last summer. Fulham promptly signed him to a new contract as well I believe, not sure on buyout clause.

We'll see on Chamakh. I'd like to see him sign, but even with no transfer fee, money could still be an issue. Arsene like to tout "wage structure" and other clubs could dangle a signing-on fee in addition to higher wages.

Lloris expressed a strong desire to play for Lyon and stay in France when he moved before, but perhaps Arsenal's "French-connection" could prove enticing. Akinfeev is a another rumored United target and all speculation involving him revolves around a huge transfer fee in what looks like typical Russian negotiating tactics. Adler is an interesting one, although he could be in line for the starting spot for Germany. If he has a good showing in South Africa -- and Germany almost always makes a run at the WC -- his price goes through the roof.

That was fun. My fingers are tired.

I don't think Arsene would be willing to pay what it would cost to bring those players in.

If the fees are 10-15 millionish, he would pay them.....

Well if he doesn't then it will just show everyone that he isn't that committed to winning. If were going to compete with United and Chelsea then were going to have to spend like United and Chelsea does.

I think Arsene is finally starting to see that, judging by his comments after the Barca game. Its wasn't his standard our players are young right now, but I have total belief in them comments. Which has become his trademark after disappointing defeats.
