Re: ***The Official Arsenal "Gunners" Thread***
Wenger wouldn't spend 50 million on anyone. That's what makes him unique. For better and worse, he looks for bargains, youth and development and sells when players hit their 30's.
I would prefer this and the club making money than spending huge and taking a risk. Torres is a fantastic player, but his injury history has to be a huge concern.Comment

I can't help but relate all this spending to Arsenal, and it's not too hard.
£50 million for Torres and £35 million for Carroll just further set a precedent and show that if the bastards from Barcelona ever want to seriously buy Cesc, they'll be paying at least £50 million for him.
Actually, someone paying £35 million for Carroll means that if anyone ever wants to buy Carlos Vela, they'll have to pay at least £36 million. Ha.Comment

Re: ***The Official Arsenal "Gunners" Thread***
Torres is Spanish and went for 50M. With his age and history of injury paired with the "importance to the club" factor still being sold for that much means we should see at least 60M for Fabregas. If all the clubs are showing that they are willing to vastly overspend for players, we might as well try to change the way things are done or make Barca vastly overspend.
As for asking if anyone thought we should buy Torres, I was fully aware it wouldn't happen and that Wenger never spends that much cash on one player. I just felt that if we could send Arshavin their way and lower the price, we would be adding a few more years to a forward and while risking another injury with Torres, Arshavins form right now isn't the best making it a little less risky in my eyes. Plus, I am very uneasy seeing him at Chelski now.Comment

Re: ***The Official Arsenal "Gunners" Thread***
English Clubs are more likely to overspend. Even more when they are british players.
Clubs wont be willing to do that for Vela and Cesc. Even Barca wont go higher than 45-50M on Cesc.
Lets face it, he aint CR7, or Messi.Comment

Re: ***The Official Arsenal "Gunners" Thread***
I actually don't even see a bid coming from Barca, as they're heavily in debt.
You say Cesc is no Ronaldo or Messi, and I say it's not a proper comparison. Fabregas creates more goals, those two score more goals. It's not apples to apples.
Me saying a bid from Barca would be high is me just assessing the situation this Summer, but I truly believe he will not go as Barca have said themselves they can not spend money.Comment

Like Kreb said, if they don't get an offer we like, we won't sell. These over inflated prices are a good negotiating chip. If Torres can get 50 and Andy Carroll can get 35, Cesc is worth no less than 50. I don't care if he is English or not.
Barcelona wanted Cesc to hand in a transfer request so bad last season it isn't even funny. As you remember they had a different Barca player come out in the press everyday for about a month begging Cesc to turn in a request and yet he still didn't.
They know that they will have to come in with a sizeable offer if they want him and I doubt there pride will allow them to wait his contract out."The academic support at Ohio State, there is no way you can fail. Even if you're giving minimal effort there is no way you can fail."

Yeah, it was terrible. I thought at the half that they were going to lose, draw at best, and that this game might be the end of Arsenal's title hopes, but they showed a lot of resiliency in the second half and played well despite not having Nasri. Rosicky, however, made little impact, and if Arshavin can go on a run of good form, I would rather see him out wide.Comment
