It's not as if we're trying to replace the most prolific passer the world has seen over the past few years.

    Ah, ****, we are.

I'm definitely glad we're making signings, but in typical Arsenal fashion they're on the cheap and players that will strengthen the squad, but not change it and that is what we need.

I was hoping we could sign enough quality to give us a legitimate shot at a top 4 finish. Unless something happens in the next 4 hours or so, we haven't. As it stands now were going to be in a dog fight with Spurs for 5th and all of this while the board sits on 50 million pounds.

Bendtner is still on the squad right?

Yes. Crouch going to Stoke rules out him going there. Also, yesterday it was said Bendtner could stay and Chamakh could go on loan to Spain.

It's unbelievable we won't break our policies for transfers when we are one of the few clubs NOT in debt at all and when we are so far away from where the club should be in terms of on the pitch performance.

Well boys, Arteta has landed on a four year deal and Benayoun for the season.

I'm happy. A bit £30 million signing was never going to happen, although a late announcement of M'Vila would be great, but I think we've added the experience that we need in order to actually fight for 4th and even an FA Cup.

We're not going to drop cash like United, Liverpool, City, Chelsea or Suprs, so given what we got for what we got them for, I'm happy.

Another year another surplus in the transfer market. Were not a selling club my ***...that is exactly what we are.

The fight between us and Spurs for 5th should be fun.

A guy the other day was selling pictures with an oversize finance sheet outside of the Emirates a couple of days ago. Which I thought was perfect as that finance sheet seems to be the symbol of our Club now. Not a trophy, not a World Class player like Henry...a finance sheet.

So with the dust settled, what does the ideal starting 11 looking like to you guys?

Szerny,Sagna,Mertesacker,Vermaelen,Santos,Song,Wil shere,Arteta,Gervinho,RVP,Walcott. That would be the idea lineup assuming everyone is healthy.

I like that we went out and signed some experience. What pisses me off is we needed one crack player and once again we failed to get one. We have probably gotten stronger in the back and arguably in attack. Midfield we are considerably weaker without Cesc. In my opinion we are about as good as last season which isn't good enough as City, Chelsea, and United have gotten better and Liverpool have passed us up in talent this summer as well.

Looks a good lineup to me. And your bench will be a 100% improvement from last Sunday's team sheet.

If everyone is healthy and we continue to play our current formation:

                        GK SZCZ
                        LB Santos
                        CB TV5
                        CB Mertesacker
                        RB Sagna
                        MF Song
                        MF Arteta
                        CAM Wilshere
                        LW Benayoun
                        ST RVP
                        RW Gervinho

Theo would rotate with Benayoun, as until I see where he fits into the formation, I'm not sure where I'd like to see him.

I think it should be fun to watch this season honestly. I wouldn't right Arsenal out of the top 4 yet but I feel some surprises are on the way honestly.

Arteta honestly could be playing for nearly any top-tier team...he should fit well with Wenger and Wilshere will learn from him.

I think, overall, that the several signings were better than over-reaching for one supremas player and some stop-gaps.

Benayoun can be great, but he has bounced around now a good bit, so I wonder if there is something wrong with him.

I am surprised that they let Bendtner go after signing Park...I thought Arsenal was a little thin at CF, and a little small...that hasn't changed much. But Van Persie is awesome...so...we'll see how that goes.
                            Australian Rules Football...just sayin'

The thing is we should have had the money for both. I'm not condoning us spending City money or anything but come on, we can splash the cash for a player every once in a while. And this Summer we needed to do that for Club morale. When you lose two players of the quality of Fabregas and Nasri you need a superstar signing, imo.
