    Yay Arshavin.

Put him in the middle and get Abou Diaby off the ****ing field.

      ^ QFT.

Although I wouldn't be surprised if they put him on the wing and put Nasri at CM.

I agree, letting go Flamini was a mistake, now Hleb is a different story but even though Wenger said he did his best to keep Flamini, a I part of me really doubts it.

As far as Arshavin fitting into the formation, I can't quite imagine how the make up would be, I do agree with taking Diaby out the midfield because he cannot hold the center, but adding Arshavin doesn't fix the midfield issue....still waiting for a holding midfield. Wenger should definitely look towards the Dutch league, they have some pretty good midfielders that would probably want to come the Premiership.

          Well, crap.

If this is true, it might be time for Wenger to break out that backup plan he claims to have.

More negative press on the Arshavin deal...

"Arsenal don't understand what is going on at all - no-one is answering their phone-calls or returning their faxes," said a source close to the deal.

"What can Arsenal do? It is becoming clear that Zenit are totally nuts. Arsenal might wait one more day, possibly two, but Zenit seem to be football jokers. In the civil world you don't make someone wait a week before you return a fax, you don't tell someone you'll call them tomorrow and not do it."

"Zenit don't care about money, they just seem to have made up their minds not to sell. They have just been playing games, showing they're tough. It's exactly as if nothing has changed since the days of the Soviet Union and they are just trying to prove a point to the western world."
Oh well, it's not as if he was 'the missing piece' or anything. Hopefully Arsene turns his attention elsewhere... or we can just be content with those returning from injury, who are apparently "like new signings", except that they are not, in fact, new signings. Not mention that two of them (Rosicky & Eduardo) are unknown commodities at this point and likely won't be able to truly contribute until next season...

Yeah, but even if that happens, it still doesn't help us now. In fact, come November I might not even want him because we may have better players starting and he would not come to the Emirates just to sit on the bench as a backup.

Whatever happens, we better sign somebody.

again Spot on but I do like Diaby

to be fair the last year of his contract Wenger had Diaby slated to start and Flamini to cover but due to injury flamani started every game (just about) was poor for the first 2 months solid after 3 or 4 and excellent till the end of the season

He d been offered a 20k raise a week but he did nt sign before his last season as he playeed left back all year and wanted a guarrantee he'd start in centre mid.

and he did nt play well enough to get the deal he wanted pre christmas after christmas he played much better but was allowed to talk to any team (he was in the last 6 months of his deal and Arsenal no longer held his rights) Inter came in with a massive offer and promises of first team football. Just a case of bad timing same applies to EDU and his injuries

On a seperate note Edwardo played 90 mins for the reserves(against Stoke) and looked outstanding if he does nt pick up a strain he'll be on the bench for Cardiff
                  "whats wrong with him?"
                  "he's got a concussion boss"
                  "can he play?"
"boss he does nt know who he is!"
"well tell him he's Pele and get him fecking back on"

Nice, I cannot wait until Eduardo gets back on the field. But you know honestly I don't have a problem with Diaby, I just think Wenger messed him up a little bit when he was playing him as an left midfielder, I do think he has potential but he will need more time to develop as a true CMF because he seems to lack a little balance. I have to see him play more though because he might look a lot better playing along side Fabregas when he comes back.

Re: ***The Official Arsenal "Gunners" Thread***

I can't wait for the window to be closed. From the Daily Mail online (via the Arseblog):

Arshavin finally set for Arsenal as Zenit will accept improved £15m offer

Arsenal hope at last to conclude a deal for Andrei Arshavin in the next 48 hours after Zenit St Petersburg said they would be prepared to accept an improved offer of around £15million in instalments over two years for the Russia international forward.
Uh, I don't buy it for a minute. I thought Arsenal said they weren't going any higher (reports had the final bid at 12-13M) and if you read carefully, it says "ZSP would be prepared to accept" -- which to me means that if they receive that offer, they would accept it. Perhaps I'm splitting hairs with the semantics of it, but "would be prepared" seems a future conditional phrase to me...

Anyways, I think it's pointless to keep hanging on every tidbit (but I keep doing it) and until I see Arshavin standing next to Wenger holding an Arsenal shirt, I won't be getting too excited...

The problem is that people are saying differing, conflicting things each day. One day Arshavin's agent will say a deal might come Tuesday, and then on Tuesday he will say there were never any plans in place for a deal, but then three days later he will say Arsenal have upped their pursuits, etc.

But like you, I keep hanging onto every word.

I'd rather keep Eboue than Diaby.

Eboue's bounced back and I wish him well. I've started to like him just because of how the fans treated him in booing him as he got subbed.
