How is that a worthy investment to any club?
Save for the fact that he only had gotten 6 yellows (0 reds) on the team that won the Premiership Fair Play for 13/14. What you're saying is exactly what other teams are saying to try and drive the price down.

If they didn't want him on their team, they wouldn't be going after him. This is just them trying to save some cash (which, good for them. Doesn't mean it should/will work.)

They told Real Madrid and Arsenal to **** off last summer when he wasn't even tied down yet. They'll tell the same to Barca this summer unless they want to pay big. Barca can play all the tap-up games they want. Liverpool isn't budging, and despite all the insanity or rumors surrounding him, he will still give 100% every time he's on the pitch no matter what team he's playing in. And 100% Suarez is probably the 3rd best player in the world right now. That's why he's worth every penny.
I don't think anyone is arguing it would take a massive fee. And we all know in 2014, that won't stop anyone.

The Guardian is reporting talks have officially been opened, with Liverpool saying he will only be released if a club meets the release clause of £80 million. Also, Liverpool wants Sanchez.

But, this is an Arsenal thread, so I don't give a toss how much Suarez is sold for or should be sold for. I just want Sanchez.

Unfortunately, he might end up being this Summer's Higuain.

Barcelona's Alexis Sanchez is reportedly set to reject a move to Liverpool as part of the Catalan giants' deal to sign Luis Suarez, and instead engineer a move to Arsenal.

Sanchez doesn't want to leave, but if he has to, he prefers Arsenal it seems. I feel bad for him because Barca wants him to leave and his agent has signing fee fever. If all this is true, Arsene should run to the Camp Nou and give them a blank check NOW!!!!

The khedira links are heating up as well especially if Toni Kroos goes to Madrid. I'd rather us go after Javi Martinez, but Khedira would be great in that Arteta role.

If the Debuchy rumors are true, I will be totally pissed off. We would pay 12 million to Newcastle for a 28 year old RB when you can have Aurier for 4 million less and he's seven freakin years younger. I get we've botched our last two signings from the Ivory Coast with Eboue and Gervinho, but Aurier has that special something you can't find everywhere. He's already miles better than Eboue at such a young age and has world class technical skill. Pure, pure stupidity.... I get Arsene wants his LB to attack and his RB to be more steady, but you have Monreal if you want a steadier player on that side to balance what Aurier brings.

Arsenal have agreed a £12million deal for Newcastle United full-back Mathieu Debuchy - and will confirm the transfer after the World Cup.

Yeah, I'm not sure how I'll feel if we sign Debuchy. On one hand I'd be glad we went and signed a Premier League experienced RB. On the other hand I'd be upset that he's not as young, and seems to have a bit of a temper.

Really, I'd end up just being glad we signed someone and didn't think that Jenkinson is ready in that spot.

My thing is that it totally flies in the face of the philosophy Arsene has had since we moved to the Emirates 8 years ago. We try to sign cheaper, foreign born and younger raw guys. Aurier checks all those boxes plus is a complete menace for defenses to deal with and is a better player today than Debuchy in my mind. You can teach a guy how to defend, you can't teach the skills Aurier has. I'll be glad not to see Jenko thrown to the wolves, but this is an expensive stop gap when you could have a cheaper, better player and be set at full back for the next 5-10 years with Gibbs and Aurier and Jenko off the bench.

The last eight years have also been different because of the move to the Emirates. The fact that we're now entering a time where we an spend a little more may change things like this.

Perhaps Arsene would rather have a PL tested player who can play in this league right now as opposed to one who can in two years, or a year.

Like I said, I'm just glad we're actually signing a replacement instead of putting Jenkinson out there, even if that will be his spot in a few years.

It's also a tiny thing, but Debuchy wouldn't miss time with the African Cup of Nations.

Some good points across the last couple posts. One thing I'd remind is RB is the less-roaming area of the pitch for us, and is more about defending than attacking.

Debuchy may fit that role better than Aurier - can't say I've seen much from Aurier so far.

Yeah a lot of folks get caught up in that FIFA mentality of buying younger players and expecting them to develop. This is a good move for you guys because it plugs an immediate hole with a PL tested / International starter.

I agree. It's obviously still in the air, but in terms of the future of that position, it very well could be Jenkinson. He certainly can not start now each week, but he's shown enough which leads us to believe in the future he could.

                    Plus, Debuchy is French.

In other news, today's latest rumor is we've offered, or will be offering €30 million for Sami Khedira.

I don't think this is good news for Jenko however. This may be a bandaid for 2 years and we wait and see if Hector Bellerin develops and continues to show promise. Really solid kid with "Barca DNA" that may be the long term answer at RB. As much as Jenko is Arsenal through and through, i think he's about hit his ceiling with his talent. Great back up and great for cup ties, but will never be the answer for that position.

I think jenks still has more to show, he is still young, I think if given the chance he can compete but as a rotational player. Most people said the same about Gibbs hitting his peak, but he has been playing better since Monreal came.

Yeah, Debuchy seems insanely close to being done. More reputable sources have now commented on it.

If we can sign Debucy and Sanchez, followed by a DM...awesome. There have also been reports that we're looking for a CB and a keeper. Not surprising.

I'm assuming if we do get Sanchez that Arsene is planning on playing him up front?

Maybe or it could be to get Podolski and Walcott more rotational time up front as well on the wings. The line up possibilities get crazy as you take in the abilities of everyone on the team. Somehow though, I just don't think we will have enough goals when the season ends unless we pick up a world class striker.
