It's a misconception that Ozil never works. He runs just as much as anyone else, even more.

Premier League comparison
Mesut Özil
13/14 - 10 assists 5 goals
14/15 - 5 assists 4 goals
15/16 - 19 assists 6 goals
16/17 - 9 assists 8 goals
43 assists and 23 goals in 113 starts (4 subs).

Christian Eriksen
13/14 - 9 assists 7 goals
14/15 - 2 assists 10 goals
15/16 - 13 assists 6 goals
16/17 - 15 assists 8 goals
39 assists and 31 goals in 129 starts (10 subs).

We've not even mentioned the difference in work rate and effort put in by the players, which clearly points in Eriksen's direction. Also worth noting that Arsenal has beaten Spurs in all but the most recent season, but the two players are still quite clearly equal across the board in terms of end product. Sucks when your feelings doesn't correllate with the facts. :P
PS. Being a world cup winner is actually completely irrelevant. Bale will never win the world cup, that doesn't make him any less of a football player. Neither will Eriksen and many other former and future greats.
Like I said, only a Spurs fan would argue that Eriksen is a better player than Mesut Freaking Ozil.
You are presenting stats with no context as facts, but stats don't always tell the whole story do they?
Like I said, Ozil is in a team without a plan. The only person he can actually assist is Alexis, who only scores when he feels like playing. Eriksen plays in a very well-rounded team with the back to back golden boot winner, as well as Alli who will score 20 per season, Son who will score 15 per season, and a team that scores well from set-pieces (which benefits Eriksen a lot, since he takes nearly every set piece, compared to Ozil who has to give them up to Alexis).
Eriksen's goal tally will always be higher, because Ozil has never been a huge goalscorer, but also because Eriksen's role in your team is quite different, and allows him to be in scoring positions far more often.
So basically, their stats (which are most definitely not "facts", and only tell about half the story) are quite similar despite Eriksen playing for an objectively better team. Also, while Eriksen averages what, 12km per game? Ozil averages just shy of 11. It's not like Eriksen is running halfway around the world every game while Ozil is stopping every 30 yards to take a smoke break.
Lastly, being a World Cup winner IS relevant when you are one of the main reasons your team won it.Comment

You feel that Özil is better, but the facts says otherwise. Eriksen is equal or better at anything that counts, he's also three and a half years younger.
Maybe Özil was a level above Eriksen in the past, like 7 years ago in 2010. But he's going downhill and Eriksen is going up. One should not forget that Eriksen has been a consistent performer in a team that has been worse than Arsenal from 2013 to 2016. Eriksen's performances has been important factors in the team's performances and it's not like everyone at Spurs caters to Eriksen. Özil needs special attention to be at his best, attention not every team will be able to provide. Eriksen is great whether you play him as a central playmaker, inside forward or a central midfielder.
Do not make the mistake of confusing Özil of 2010 with the version Arsenal possess in 2017.Last edited by ZeroTheHero; 05-25-2017, 04:37 PM.Comment

Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
I could have sworn I already said Eriksen was much better this season.
Anyway, who am I to argue with such concrete statistics: Hazard and Kante? Not as good as Jordan Henderson. FACT.Comment

Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
Hazard has scored some goals this season, but he's not the player he was when he first arrived. He's comparable to the two we've mentioned already due to having similar roles. Kante, on the other hand, provides a platform for this type of player to perform. Henderson is a jack of all trades but if he keeps delivering these stats in his current role, it might turn out that we've underestimated him.Comment

Perhaps the Eriksen homage could be moved to the lively Spurs thread...?

Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
It wasn't "Eriksen homage" but rather some people who were unable to stick to the subject due to disagreeing with details, which you'd actually know if you read the few latest posts.
PS. I'm included in the "some people" bucket.Comment

I actually agree with this new Spurs fan. I'd take Eriksen over Ozil on almost any team in any setup. To me, and I don't dislike Ozil at all (he's remarkably smooth and makes it look so effortless at times that it gives off the connotation that he doesn't care) but to me he's a luxury player that often goes wanting for large stretches of matches/weeks.
Eriksen no doubt has better talent around him (which is crazy to say and shows you how much Spurs are ahead of Arsenal in terms of on-the-pitch talent) but he's the cog that makes that engine go. Yeah Kane, Son, and Alli are often on the scoresheet but it's Eriksen to me that links the play, sends in the killer ball, is dangerous on free kicks, and has a much better end product.
BTW, it's cool to see guys slight of stature like Eriksen, Silva, Mata, etc... excel in this league.Comment

Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
Ozil is similar to Mata; in the right setup, they accelerate play and create chances that very few other players are capable of, but outside of that setup they are too inconsistent to rely upon week in and week out.
I'd take Eriksen right now as well, but I still think Ozil is a better player.Comment

Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
So Wenger has hit out at how he's been treated by some fans ahead of the FA Cup Final, and I do agree with him. While I think most of the people here have been respectful towards what Wenger has done, and have simply pointed out the massive flaws he's yet to fix, there are certain groups of supporters I'm less than thrilled with. Wenger will always be a club legend, and I'll always have massive respect for the job he's done at Arsenal, it's a shame that others won't.
At the same time, this feels like posturing from Wenger against the Board to try and get them to let him stay. I'm sad, because ultimately I wanted Wenger leaving to come from Wenger himself, but it looks like we'll have to settle for his contract not getting renewed if that's going to be the future.
Also - I dislike that section of fans because they're the reason I've had to answer so many stupid questions and a bunch of the same questions over and over and over and over.Support Local Sports

Monreal, Holding, Mertesacker is the back 3.

It looks like more of a back 4 to me but we'll see come kick off. I know the back 3 has been good to y'all too though.
