I saw a reply to one of the Ozil paying the salary of the mascot that pretty much summed it up.

"It's nice to see Arsenal's two mascots stick together."

He hasn’t, someone on Scotland staff has.

Apparently Arsenal are attempting to get him back to London. I hope they succeed.

It's being reported that Arsenal attempted to cancel/buyout Ozil's contract with a significant payment to him, which would allow him to sign anywhere as a free agent.

            He declined.

            Shocking.

              He’s got that commitment bro.

At some point, you need to see the writing on the wall...what a mess he is making this into.

What's frustrating is that people will say "Well, he shouldn't accept it, that's the contract he was given, etc."

But the point is that I don't think this situation is about money to him, or at least the money from that contract. It's only about him controlling a narrative of being allowed not to play, or being held hostage, etc. by the club. He wants sympathy and for his legions of sycophants to continuously groan about how unfairly he's being treated.

He doesn't want to play football—that's why he's not playing, and when his contract is up he'll prove that he doesn't really want to play by either retiring or taking a big contract in low-quality league for big money.

So, yes, overall it's about money, but I think for him it's more about the money he wants to make in the future. He'll look better if he leaves Arsenal after seeing out his contract while the evil board and owners refused to allow him to play football, which he wants to do so dearly.

And to show them his true sporting ambitions he'll head to Turkey, the UAE, or China and only be the subject of stories when he's on someone else's bench being paid a different club's money.

TL;DR He cares about his image, and how that image makes him more money in the future, not the money Arsenal is paying him now. At least, that's my take.

I agree wholeheartedly, even as an Ozil stan, that he cares about his image above all else, but also due to that, previous comments, and the things he's shown he does care about, the bold is almost certainly off the table. I would not at all be surprised if you just replaced it with US/MLS though, and I do believe that his next move will be a "retirement move" (which is also why MLS makes the most sense, imo). All of this though feels like bad PR for just everyone, on both sides it really feels like everyone could've handled all of this better.

I'm pretty neutral on all of the saga, Ozil really should see the writing on the wall and leave, Arsenal seem to really just be taking PR lump after PR lump recently. I am ready for this to be the end of it though.

Oof—I'm not sure why I put China on that list—definitely not happening.

As for Arsenal taking PR lumps, I do think it's partly due to them getting more attention for things they do than other clubs, or even more so due to stories related to them getting lots of traffic. Basically, I think they're an easy target because of how poorly they've handled things in the past. So, yes, it's their fault, but I think sometimes the coverage can be a bit...harsh?

First Example: Arsenal did lay off 50+ staff, but what never got reported around that or at least to the same level that Arsenal had consistently had much larger staff than other clubs of their level in the league. Yes, laying people off while a billionaire owns the club is inexcusable, but they also had far more staff on their books than other clubs.

Second Example: The clamor over Gunnersaurus is ridiculous, and I say that because Arsenal are taking lumps mostly for the timing of it (and many have refused to acknowledge that the mascot will return, and the man inside the costume was near retirement age). How could they announce that on the same day they spend €50m on a new player?! Well, they didn't announce it. Journalists chose to announce it on that day. Why? Because it would get traction and create the clamor that we now see.

Yes—Arsenal as a club have repeatedly acted incredibly stupid and foolish in the past (and will in the future because KSE owns them), but I do think that sometimes the mistakes of the past are used to beat them up in the present.

In other news, Saliba may be getting a loan to either Watford or Brentford.

I didn’t expect him to come in and be a starter from the get go, like many others—-but for him to be “so far” off of being first team ready is quite disappointing.

Still admittedly very young and plenty of time. I just have to trust MA judgement on this one. With that said, coming off injury, a rigorous Championship fixture list isn’t exactly appealing..

Apparently his Mother passed away a few months ago along with a few other personal issues he has been dealing with so it seems it may be a tough transition for him right now and understandably so. Rooting for the youngin hopefully wherever he goes to on loan he can excel.

I guess if he is going to go on loan, staying in England would help him further adapt to the new country, etc. It's unfortunate, though, as he seemed close to rejoining Saint-Etienne but we couldn't get the deal done in time. It's clear that another year in France is what he and the club would've preferred.

I might be reading too much into it, but it's interesting that Watford and Brentford are the clubs listed, as those are both in greater London—so in a way, staying close to Arsenal.

If he goes, I'd vote for Brentford—easily. One, because of how they play, and two it might be a continued effort to create a relationship with Brentford. I still think Arsenal go back in for David Raya next Summer. There were rumblings that the new contract he just signed includes a clause which will make it easier for him to go.
