Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***

Ligament damage for Tierney—that really, really hurts.

I've also been thinking recently about this Summer and next season, and how realistic it is to see certain signings. At this point, I don't think we get Odegaard again unless it's another loan from Madrid. He's raised eyebrows around Europe, and we can not compete (financially and especially from a sporting stand point) with those who will be interested if Madrid are ready to sell.

The only thing we possibly could have that he'd want is playing time. If he's fit, he's playing for us, and if he goes to another club he might be back to where he was at Madrid. But...I think his Arsenal stint will be short.

In terms of further recruitment, it's possible we finish with no Europa League qualification, which is disastrous in terms of finances. This could be massive in terms of a league run and a top-four finish, but that too will be dependent on who we can bring in this Summer, which seems dependent on who we'll be able to move out and for how much.

Without typing even more, what I'm saying is I don't see a quick turnaround for any of this. I don't think it's realistic for us to win the Europa League, as we're too inconsistent. I don't think it's possible for us to massively improve our league form next season to the point that we can be a favorite for sneaking into fourth.

The rest of the league is improving far too much while we're entirely stagnant.

This is what bothers me the most, and feels like same story, different year.

My interest in the club right now is pretty low. Tired of mediocrity.

Massive match today. SHOULDN’T be a problem, but as was stated—we are so inconsistent, I do not feel warm and fuzzy.

I'd love for us to win the tie today, just put it to bed. We have the talent to do so, but we may not have the mentality to do so.

I’m not even sure that this scoreline would prevent squeaky bum time in the reverse tie LOL.

                Just laughably pathetic.

It has been sad several times but imagine if this squad had to deal with supporters in the ground. The negativity would be insane, and it would be deserved.

Prague is the only team to really stop the Rangers juggernaut this season. I don't think this was ever going to be an easy matchup.

Doesn’t matter in the context of the match.

When you’re seconds away from a 1-0 home win you can’t crumble like you’ve done for the last several seasons.

You have one job at that point—no away goal. Seconds away, you have one ****ing job.

For a club of Arsenal’s stature (a rapidly falling stature) and supposed ambition it’s pathetic and inexcusable.

                          Through 2021?

If we finish with no European football for 21/22 then he'll of course be under pressure to greatly improve the league form, and honestly, I think that's possible. We've seen it again and again, if you give teams time throughout the week to train and focus on the league they can do much better.

However, I don't think even with quality additions we'd be favored for grabbing 4th. Nearly every club is improving, and if they're not, they will be reloading this Summer as much as they can.

So, realistically, I think he essentially has half of next season before they'd seriously consider making a move. Reports have been consistent for some time that they view him as long-term, and not necessarily players as long-term. He's part of "the project" more than anything else it seems.

There are many things he's done that I've felt can be put on him, mostly selection issues, which to me even means that when certain players prove to be brain dead it's on him for picking them as much as it's on them for being a professional footballer who only switches on 50% of the time but is paid 100% of the time.

Every window is massive, but this Summer could truly see whether Arsenal toil in mid-table and Europa League spots for another 2-3 seasons or actually make an outside push to regain their once nearly automatic spot in the elite European competition.

That last thing reminds me of something that has been bothering me for months, and it's the somewhat revisionist history and meme culture regarding Arsene Wenger's actual accomplishment of keeping Arsenal in the top four year after year for as long as he did. Should the club have done more than that? Yes, but it seems that now only years later is it accepted how vital that Champions League money is to any team. It used to be a joke but is now seen as a genuine accomplishment and benchmark by pundits and even supporters of many clubs.

As usual, Arsene was a bit ahead of his time.

(I still think he needed to move on from the club, years earlier than he did, and the executive structure in place at the club when he left is partially to blame for our current situation.)

Front 3 of Pepe-Auba-Saka. Just go full FIFA sweaty pace. Not sure sure what happened to Laca but man I’d have bet a lot of cash that he would have buried that one.

Significant investment in the squad is needed if the club have ambitions to remain relevant in the football world.

Id give Martinelli some time in the league. I have zero confidence in getting the win on Prague, so I’d play the youth and see what you have.

                            Yesterday’s match was incredibly frustrating.

Balogun is apparently signing a 4 year deal. I think Eddie and Laca could be on the way out.

Good. COVID market or not, Eddie should be able to have a decent sized fee with his scoring record and being homegrown. What the club can get for him will truly be a mark of if we've improved at moving on assets.
