    re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread

    A few things I saw tonight:

    Usa looks good on set pieces, though Azerbaijan is pretty suspect when it comes to their defense. We weren't really tested defensively so I would like to see how we fair against an offensively good team. Altidore to me played well, he actually hustled and made some runs with some nice moves. Evans definitely changed the game when he came in especially with his free kicks. Diskerud had a nice finish which in the WC you have to finish.
    Bradley played terrible with his first touch and passing. Thats the difference between usa soccer and the rest of the world, first touches are so crucial and the big teams can do it very well. Overall it was a good first game for the usa just to get familiar with each other and get the feeling of where the players need to be and such. I was satisfied with the result. Game should have been 3-0 4-0 especially with wondos header early on

      Mediocre performance, but at least it was just the first game. You expect rust this early on, and guys like Bradley won't play this poorly going forward.

          I think Altidore and Johansson play very well together. I think the team should have shown better in California against Azerbaijan though, certainly wasn't a pretty performance.

          The only time I've ever been impressed with the atmosphere at a USA home game was when they played in Seattle (or was it Portland?).

          ~~~~
          I don't think this team is as good as it was a year or two ago...
            So went to the game yesterday as this is about as close as I'll get to going to the World Cup this time around.
            I thought they weren't too bad, actually. I think Wondo played very well, and despite his critics Jozy was very active off the ball and a noticeably better first touch since being at Sunderland. Bedoya was very active as he played right on front of me in the first half. Quite a few times, Bradley uncharacteristically missed some good runs by Alex. Had a blast there though.
                I don't understand why we continue to schedule teams that resemble next to nothing that we'll see at the World Cup.
                Seriously, it does us no good playing against a bunker team. We won't see that!
                Our first call should've been Sweden. At least Turkey will attack and Nigeria is a Cup team.
                More questions than answers yet again but we have no choice but to try and trust Klinsmann. I just don't have a good feeling about it.
                  If we called Sweden, I'm sure they'd say that they have nothing to gain coming to America, and that the Americans have nothing to gain going and playing Sweden, so there's no real benefit to us calling them.
                    It's pretty simple. We played Azerbaijan because Berti Vogts is their coach.
                      Jozy and Aaron played together at AZ. They should play together more often, Jozy has literally never excelled as the lone striker
                        Yup, that and it wouldn't be good to go straight into a top-tier opponent after two weeks of mostly strenuous fitness work.
                          That's not true. Jozy played his entire career at AZ as a lone striker, and definitely excelled.
                          Also, Jóhannsson joined AZ in January 2013, essentially to be Altidore's replacement for when Jozy was sold in the summer. Jóhannsson didn't make an appearance until April. The two of them played a total of 71 minutes together during the time when their stays at AZ overlapped.
                            It makes sense to schedule lower level competition early on, try new line ups, new formations. Gain some confidence and let players work on their skills. But the couple weeks leading up to the WC I would like to see us play a few harder teams, get ready for the competition.
                              Without further adieu, I give you what is quite possibly the single best song about the USMNT ever written:
