The system is set up for the US and Mexico to make it every time, that’s how badly we messed up the last cycle.

I doubt that happens a second time, it’s more or less rigged in our (and Mexico’s) favor.

Let the rigging get worse! ESPN Deportes is reporting that the WC Qualifying will change in CONCACAF for 2022!

The top 6 FIFA Ranked teams (Currently Mexico[18], USA[30], Costa Rica[39], Jamaica[54], Honduras[61], El Salvador[69]) Will qualify directly to the "Hex" the top 3 teams will qualify for the World Cup through this hex.

The remaining teams will be placed into 8 groups, the winners advance to home/away playoffs until a final with the 4th placed team from the "Hex" who will then play in the International playoff.

Hopefully the brain trust can figure out more ideals locations for the home qualifying games (2017 vs Costa Rica as an example of what not to do).

Also, have to realize we’re the 2nd most popular national team in the country. Our southern neighbors take that title.

The Gold Cup final did better ratings than game 7 of the Stanley Cup final. 5.9 million watched on Univision compared to 2.88 on FS1.

We shouldn't avoid areas with large numbers of Hispanics for games, that's not why we're losing, and is kind of a very awkward stance. If you want more US fans in the stands you have to make it accessible to those who want to cheer on the team. Ticket Prices above all else are the biggest issue in terms of US Support.

Then again, US Soccer isn't really concerned about soccer, it's only concern is money.

I’m a casual AO member, I’ve never really had interest in going to games. Are the ticket prices that outrageous? Like Arsenal pricey?

The US men’s national team are starting to cohere under their new coach, Gregg Berhalter. But fans paid up to $600 to watch them against Chile

Yeah tickets in DC were fairly expensive (what isn’t in this area though) for that friendly with Jamaica. I didn’t know it was like that all around the county though.

The ICC comes out here on the 15th I think for Arsenal-Real and tickets are still sitting which surprised me but maybe it’s because of the price.

Absolutely. No way in hell Mexico or even the USMNT should be playing on a field that's lower in quality than the average high school soccer field.

The new thing really sucks most for Panama.

No clue how they are ranked lower than any of those teams, but they have overtaken Honduras as the 4th best team in our region for a few years now.

Jamaica being that much higher than the other teams is a bit of a joke considering it's almost entirely based on their Gold Cup performances. Their world cup qualifying campaigns are almost always completely tragic.

Trinidad gets hosed a bit too, they are better than El Salvador and probably Honduras as well.

I mean, they're FIFA rankings, you don't need to tell us you don't have an clue, because no one has an clue. I realize as a USMNT fan, this doesn't affect me at all, if we're ever ranked lower than 6th in CONCACAF something else has happened and I'm probably dead, but the fact that the CONCACAF Nations League now matters more because it can affect FIFA rankings for these smaller teams is weird as hell. Simultaneously this put pressure on them to perform in both the Nations League AND World Cup Qualifying. Plus imagine one loss to a random team in the Nations League puts you from 6th to 7th at the cut-off date, that's gonna be rough.

There is a thread name change incoming, so just gonna put this here:

Jill Ellis has resigned as USWNT manager effective at the end of the victory tour. Say what you want about her tactics, but she won the World Cup at every time of asking, something that the three previous managers to take them to a World Cup failed to accomplish.

As I said to someone else, I can criticize what I believe to be Jill Ellis' tactical shortcomings as much as I want, at the end of the day, I'm an idiot and she has two World Cups
