Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***
I'm a firm believer that 3 in the back could work anywhere given the right personnel (easy cop out I know) but there aren't too many English CBs that have the traits needed to play it successfully. We for sure don't have the ball-playing CBs needed or the wingbacks capable of both defending and providing width/quality service.
I do believe that JT & Carvalho could have played it back in their younger days but they would have needed that other CB to step up.
But like Brahvo said, Conte's going to have to find a way for Hazard to be in the team. I'd personally like to see him play as a 2nd striker, similar to what he did at Lille where Rudi Garcia gave him free reign and ZERO defensive responsibility.
But then again I'm intrigued by Morata as a potential 2nd ST.Comment

Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***
Yeah that's a good point about 3 at the back.
Juventus for example could easily drop into the prem and win it pretty handily.
Apparently Conte's favored formation is actually 4-4-2, so maybe that's why we are being linked with strikers all over the place. Will be interesting, a switch to 4-4-2 would basically mean the end of Oscar, also would change our approach with RLC who has operated best in a midfield 3.Comment

I wish we would have sold Oscar to China last Winter. Unless Conte's 4-4-2 is some diamond hybrid it's going to be really hard for him although his work rate is better than Hazards and he isn't afraid to put in a tackle.
I'm thinking 4-4-2 might hide and/or give RLC protection. He'll be a lot less exposed if he has midfielders to either side of him.
Overall there's so many questions with our roster and how they will fit under Conte. I guess once the Euros end we'll see how he addresses the transfer market as a sign of what to expect.

Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***
The diamond would probably get a lot out of RLC, but the main problem with the diamond is that it doesn't use regular wingers (the fullbacks are basically the wingers), and we have a ton of wingers.
I also don't agree with the general consensus that Hazard is best employed in a central 10 role. He is best out wide, like Ribbery, as a sort of winged-playmaker. He did play at Lille as a shadow striker, which I guess could be his role in the diamond, but that still leaves Pedro/Cuadrado/Willian basically out of the job.Comment

I can't decide if the Belgians are a breath of fresh air because they speak their minds to the media instead of scripted, spoon-fed answers, or if they are all a bunch of d-bags who should have their speaking privileges revoked.Comment

Lol.
I noticed this the other day when Kompany was in the ESPN studio talking about how he thought Belgium were the favorites from that point on. I was so confused.

Upon further reflection, maybe Tbo is just telling bit like it is. I mean, he's right, he won't retire at Chelsea, not even Chelsea legends retire at Chelsea. He's watched us shove Lampard/Cech/Drogba (twice) and potentially Terry out the door. Not to mention, he's spent more time with Atletico than he has with Chelsea, he doesn't have that attachment. It's an unfortunate biproduct of sending all our young players on loan.
Anyway, I just hope Conte can turn this ship around.Comment

Pedro said the same thing about retiring at Barcelona. I don't hold it against him, he spent his whole life there.Comment

I considered going to Chicago for the Chelsea/Real game but there's a good chance that both B sides will be sent to the US considering most of the good talent will be given a rest from a busy summer.

Conte is an incredibly charming guy.
Also looks like Kante is on the verge of joining. Seems like Mikel's time may have finally come to an end. Cesc/Kante/Matic/RLC/Oscar for 3 midfield spots leaves little room for Mikel.Comment

If Mikel goes, I'll have to find a new least-favorite player. [emoji4]Comment
