Re: The Beautiful Game Thread
Like I said in the Champions League thread, they beat Atletico 4-2 on aggregate in the league. Both 2-1 wins.

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread
I've been trying to get my roommate into soccer this year, and slowly but surely he has come around, watching games with me on Saturday mornings. So this past Saturday he started looking at teams he'd want to follow.
He has me (a Spurs fan) and other friends who are Man U, Arsenal, and Everton fans, so all those were out. He likes to be different, haha.
He has seen me playing my AFC Wimbledon save on Football Manager, so I jokingly suggested he should be a Wimbledon fan. He googled them, and loved the story behind the club, liked how they are fan owned, and thought it was cool how well they've done for being around for a little over a decade.
He spent the better part of 3-4 hours reading about them, watching videos online, etc. I explained the whole Football League system, promotion/relegation, etc. He says a League 2 team would be perfect, because he doesn't have a lot of free Saturdays at the moment, so he would mainly only be able to check box scores anyway, and this way nobody could accuse him of being a bandwagon fan. And if they ever make it to the EPL, he'd be more invested, after following them in the journey up the leagues.
He's legitimately going all-in with Wimbledon. He added AFC Wimbledon score alerts to his phone, and today he texts me: "For $722.19 I can be a lifetime owner, with 1 vote in all club matters!"University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread
that's how I think all foreign fans should choose their team, being a lower league fan seems a lot more fun, there's a whole range of emotions that go with it
having been a liverpool fan my entire life born into a family of liverpool and everton supporters, living 2 miles from anfield and having experienced some very good highs, I've never really had a real low...we've finished 8th and lost a few finals, that's about it. we've never been relegated in my life time (or my parents') and thus never been promoted and we've never won the league in my lifetime. at least with a lower league team you have access to that rangeComment

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread
Eh, at some point you're going to want to watch your team play on TV and unless you want to live the "find a stream" life it's too much trouble.
With the amount of money in the EPL and the coverage steadily increasing in the US why not pick a mid-table side?
Even a club like West Ham who's having a great year, moving into a brand new stadium next year with the real possibility of European football would be a good choice.Comment

Yeah, I would never choose a lower league team to be my team, simply because of how hard it would be to ever see them play.University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread
I saw Thierry Henry play at the World Cup in 1998 or whenever, maybe the 2000 euro, easily became my favorite player, decided i would like whatever team he played for, he just so happened to play for Arsenal.
and that's the short story of how I became a self-loathing arsenal fan.Support Local Sports

I can see below-EPL level football live over here. Why would I choose to get up before 8AM on a Saturday to watch Doncaster-Crewe on a ****ty stream?Comment
