      Re: MLS Discussion Thread

My boss's boss just gave me tickets to the Sounders-Timbers game. Last time I went was Dempsey's first game that we won 1-0.

I hear that Portland won't be fielding anything close to a full strength lineup tonight. Do you have much hope for the USOC game? I expect Sunday's game to be very competitive.

?Ask me about the Xbox Ally handheld - I'm on the team that made it.

I would be surprised if we were rotating much at all. While they do have injuries (and haven't gotten Liam Ridgewell in and fit), I would be shocked if I didn't see most of the main complement of starting eleven.

The Timbers only shot to get back to the CONCACAF Champions League is the US Open Cup, because we're not winning the Shield or the West, and MLS Cup hopes are fading away.

I expect it to be a Timbers-esque game. Lots of offense (especially since our backline is still going to be ****ty), and we'll either go to PKs with a 3-3 or 4-4 tie, or lose heartbreakingly in the last moment.

You weren't that far off. Definitely an exciting game. Portland fielded a much stronger team than I had been led to believe.

How much rotation do you expect on Sunday now that you saw last night's lineup?

I expect Seattle will see Dempsey, Martins, Pappa, and Gonzalez back as starters, so only 7 guys will have started both games. It's possible Cooper starts as well, but I doubt it.

I fully expect the strongest starting eleven we've got... possibly even throwing out our new DP Liam Ridgewell. I heard he's in Portland now... doesn't mean he'll be fit and ready, but if he's in town, he's a possibility.

I also fully expect to get completely dominated in this game. 3-1 again? I'm not confident in the backline at all, and not having Chara (who made a hell of a dumb slide tackle... although not as bad as the Alvas Powell launching against Columbus) is going to hurt since he's a defensive motor in the midfield.

I can see this (players, not formation):

            Ricketts
            O'Rourke--Kah--McKenzie--Villafana
            Nagbe--Valeri--Johnson--Harrington
            Adi--Fernandez

With Ridgewell coming in around the 75th minute once McKenzie has basically thrown the game away (if Liam's available). I know I'm laying on the hate for McKenzie, but he is truly terrible. I could also see Villafana being pulled for an offensive player (Zakuani/Alhassan). Maybe Jewsbury in for O'Rourke or Harrington?

Goldfish FC will continue (as that sign at Starfire pointed out to us). It's funny, Will Johnson is my wife's favorite player because of that line, and we are going to get hammered for it for pretty much the rest of the season.

I was really hoping PT could have made something from the USOC, especially with Nagbe's first goal of 2014. I thought that would cause something special... but then again, Chara.

That's a decent lineup, but yeah the back line is worrisome. Ridgewell could probably help a lot.

It's a funny line, but I didn't know that Will Johnson was anyone's favorite player. At RSL and at Portland, most opposing teams dislike him (like Lenhart) and with him playing poorly this year, I got the sense that even some Timbers fans were tiring of his antics.

I expect this lineup from Seattle:
                    Frei
                    Yedlin----Marshall----Anibaba----Gonzalez
                    Evans---Pineda---Alonso---Pappa
                    Martins---Dempsey

The 2nd CB is questionable for me. It could be Scott again and maybe Traore is healthy. There's a chance we see Cooper or Neagle instead of Pappa or Evans, but I doubt it.

I'm not the biggest fan of his for this yelling on the field and poor form (I think my wife only likes him for that comment)... but I think that's what Caleb Porter wants. Porter's not going to pretend not to be abrasive, for better or for worse. I mean, he didn't think Chara's red was a red... which is just blatant misrepresentation. I'm sure even the TA thought that was a red, I certainly did.

Either way, I don't expect a 4-4 tie like the last time. I would not be surprised to let in that many, but we won't be scoring that much.

Oh well, I plan on getting pretty hammered during it at a local soccer pub... which seems like the best option.

Just saw on Twitter that Ridgewell won't play on Sunday, and they may hold Kah out for his injury. Enjoy the 3 points, Seattle. Jeez, our back line is so terrible.

Going to give this MLS thing a shot. I haven't decided on a team yet, obviously Orlando City would be a no brainer for me, living in Florida. However, I think I'm gonna flirt with Seattle and see how it goes. Always respected the Seattle fan base, and of course love Dempsey & Yedlin (even though it seems Yedlin could be going to Europe). Excited for this game tonight.
