a good start would be making sure lower league teams are given TV games in the cup. United are on a run of 11 years with having a game not on tv which is ludicrous

Oh for sure, but there are still plenty of lower league fans who enjoy it.

If they somehow compensated lower league teams then it probably wouldn't be too big of a deal, but asking the FA not to be ******** is asking a lot these days.

Once again, I might not be thinking about it enough to wrap my head around it, but if you move FA Cup games to during the week, that will still create just as much fixture congestion, right?

I actually like FA Cup weekends right now.

No because you're eliminating the chance of a replay and also reducing match congestion at other times. Namely the utterly ridiculous mid Dec - early Jan schedule. It's really a shell game more than anything because there are two domestic cups.

They should scrap the League Cup altogether and start the FA Cup earlier on in the season so games can be spread out more. The replays should be kept for the smaller clubs in lower leagues because sometimes a game at a big Prem team can earn them enough money to keep running. I agree though, something has to be done with the formatting of games etc. to help our teams in Europe. Be that doing away with the League Cup and/or allowing teams who have a Tuesday CL tie to play on a Thursday/Friday and EL teams to play the following Monday after a Thursday game. Even more so if there is a lot of travelling involved.

That is true. That said, I'd still be fine with the League Cup going away as well.

My point was mainly aimed at the PL clubs, should have clarified that it should be started earlier for them. Not sure how it would work but it would reduce the congestion around Christmas/January/February.

And we are in the middle of February now, and we are only at the 5th round. If it could be done quicker so that that the schedule is less harsh on teams they would perform better in Europe as players wouldn't have the fatigue of playing so many games.

To be fair, English teams were performing great in Europe until just a few years ago, despite no winter break and aforementioned fixture congestion.

Also, I'm not sure how a winter break would work in England. Having a break in January could work I guess but seems like that is running it a little too late.

It'd be unfair on the teams who go through qualifying for them to be ousted though if we sped up the process because they still have busy schedules

the fa cup now is fine it's the league cup that's an issue, it's an exclusive variant of the fa cup nobody wants

I'd be alright with getting rid of the League Cup. Yeah, it is a way for clubs to get into the Europa League, but honestly most years the winner's already in Europe anyway.

To be fair, I was all for it when Arsenal were in the final. But after the FA Cup wins, yeah, get rid of it.

And honestly, how much of a "prize" is going to the Europa League anyway? Just more games and more travel for teams that aren't that deep to begin with.

To be fair, the Europa League winner qualifies for the Champions League now. So, there is that.

That's a lot of matches to get there, tho. Group stage + 8 knockout stage matches and then the final. Brutal.
