No they don't at least in college soccer. I work for my school's men's team, top 3 in D2, and last night our captain was getting punched (on attack) and then put the guy punching him into a headlock. Both of them got YCs. Also less than 15 minutes into the game a guy for the team we were playing, pulled down our striker on a clean break and got sent off as the last defender.

While I admit to chuckling, Chelsea sure deserved a penalty on the play in question, and there's no way I'll deny thatSupport Local Sports

I remember seeing an episode of MNF, where they had Howard Webb (post retirement). Gary Neville asks him if he remembers a time when a ref called a penalty and the player didn't go to ground (hand balls excluded obviously), and Webb couldn't think of a single time. He ignored the question a few times even, before ultimately admitting he couldn't think of an incident.Comment

Much better effort from Villa this morning. Jordan Amavi is maddening though. He will not cross the ball into the box. No sense in having Rudy Gestede in the box if you aren't going to get it to him. Charles N'Zogbia was the only one getting it into him.Comment

Re: The 2015-2016 EPL Discussion Thread
Everybody will be too busy making fun of us to talk about it, but that Remy chance at the end is the entire reason diving exists in the modern game.
That is a stonewall penalty and red card, keeper comes sliding out and misses the ball completely, Remy has to practically tuck his knees into his chest when jumping over and still gets clipped. Because he gets clipped he can't keep his balance and misses the shot.
If Remy goes down that's a penalty and a red card. His reward for staying on his feet? Nothing. He will get a pat on the back from pundits for displaying "grit" and "determination ", but a pat on the back isn't worth any points. Until a ref actually calls a penalty without needing the player to go down first, diving will never go away.
Players dive because they don't get those calls, and because defenders and keepers are allowed to get away with literal murder.

The amount of space Arsenal gave Spurs most of that game was shocking, this is coming from a Chelsea fan.
Arsenal lucky with a 1-1 honestly, their only good spell was the last 10 minutes.Comment

I wouldn't consider it lucky, what did Spurs do with it? If they could create more chances then I would agree with you. I think both sides knew this was going to be a scrappy game that they were both going to have to grind out.Comment

At the same time. You can't only show up for 10 minutes of a game and then claim your side deserved a result.Comment

We created chances in the second half, and I don't think Spurs really threatened too much in the second half. However, if we were 1-0 up I wouldn't expect us to be doing too much, either.
If we didn't draw, I'd still consider it a fair result, but we at least did enough in the end to earn a point. They didn't do enough to take three points.Comment

Re: The 2015-2016 EPL Discussion Thread
Yeah the result was definitely fair enough. Spurs had plenty of opportunity to put the game away and didn't, and were punished for it.
Your defensive positioning has just been all off since the Bayern game. A hungrier team would have taken you guys to the cleaners I think.
But yeah, 1-1 is fine all things considered. I thought you guys got lucky but I didn't mean to imply that I thought the result wasn't fair.Comment
