    Re: Euro 2016 Discussion Thread

Media reaction to Portugal winning has been embarrassing.

ESPN in particular is charting maximum levels of salt. What a **** show.

It started literally as soon as they sent it back to the studio to Mcmanaman.

This BS notion that you have to win "the right way" aka be entertaining is so tired.

Spain wasn't entertaining when they holding 70% possession and winning titles from 08-12.

As soon as CR7 went down I said to my boy that Portugal was going to try to take it to penalties and tbh, who wouldn't when you lose your world class phenom. Maybe it's why I like Mourinho so much, all that matters is the result when the ref blows the final whistle.

I really did think it was kind of unprofessional how they were blasting Portugal for how they played literally seconds after the final whistle, on national TV.

Not everyone is bad there. I've always liked Gab Marcotti and Sid Lowe. Shaka and Nicol are ok. Can't stand Tommy Symth and all the other village idiots though. Just a bunch of loudmouths. If you look around and read the guardian, bbc or daily mail you'll see pundits giving Portugal their props. I think ppl are just worried that all the conservative play in tournament might lead to regressive football we saw in the 90's and early 2000's.

Except the 90s brought us Sacchi and Capelo's Milan teams. Defensive football isn't regressive, people just don't like it. Man United parked the bus against Bayern Munich and won a treble, I doubt you'd hear any of their fans complain about the style of football they played to get that.

The people who don't like defense-oriented champions are those whose teams got beaten by them (hence I wish for death sentences against the 1995 New Jersey Devils and 2010 Spain).

It's silly that people say "defensive masterclass" when talking about Italy and Atletico but say negative things about Portugal

Nah, I call them all mind-numbing. I get it - they don't have to entertain us. The USWNT defended their way all the way to the WC Final. But when it's not my team, hell yes I'm throwing shade.

I don't hate Portugal or Spain or the San Antonio Spurs or whoever because they play defensively or because they've beaten teams I root for.
