Chelsea had a single Englishman in the match day squad against Leicester. Leicester had seven, as a comparison.

I mean, most of the big clubs only field a few English players typically, lower level teams field more.

              Not exactly breaking news.

Chelsea is the Inter of England, has been for a very long time way before the Roman Empire. We’ve always had lots of foreign players, we were the first Prem team to field zero English players.

Because y'know, nationality matters, or something, or who knows.

Other than marketing, I've never understood why nationality makes any difference in CLUB football. [emoji848]

Re: The 2017-2018 EPL Discussion Thread

Having players from the nationality of the club strengthens the local support to the club, particularly if a few local lads are in the team. Local support is important due to the fact that it's those supporters that actually buy tickets to the matches.

Worth noting that I'm not a die hard nationalist or something, I just prefer that teams have a healthy amount of players share nationality with the team they're in.

A couple of seasons ago, Spurs had a very healthy amount of Englishmen, but the numbers are dwindling and I don't particularly like it... so I'm ambivalent about the purchase of Aurier, even though I like him a lot.

So my previous comment was meant more as a kudos to Leicester than spite against Chelsea, as Chelsea is not the only club doing this.

                    EDIT2:
Regarding the matches today, I hope Bournemouth can give Arsenal some trouble but I doubt it. And as long as Tottenham isn't winning the league, it might as well be City for all I care. In that regards I hope City tears Liverpool a new one today, but Liverpool are typically really good against teams like City.

I hope for the best and expect the worst, in other words. It's going to be fun to watch either way. Any day with that includes PL matches is a better day than one that does not!

Yeah, I'd say the club being local strengthens the local support of the team.
