I hoped both Arsenal and Liverpool would lose today. I thought Arsenal would win and Liverpool lose... and Arsenal lost and Liverpool won.

    Another weird day in football.

Do you guys think Athletic Bilbao is 4th in average attendance in Spain on account of their excellent league form? Currently 11th in the league...

Oh it's the reason for one team, so it's true for every team. Neat.

Ahhh so you're one of those fact-resistant types that doesn't believe anything that doesn't come with a 452-page AAA-research along with it?

So, you’re the type who uses an outlier or extreme example to further support your generalized claim?

You’re using a club as an example who essentially represents an autonomous region of a country.

He’s not being fact-resistant, he’s being bull**** resistant. That is not the best example to make your argument.

Actually, I shouldn't have needed to provide a single example, because it's a common known fact. Maybe it's different over there in the US, but in Europe we really like when local lads play on the local team.

I wasn't aware that this wasn't common knowledge, so I was quite baffled and giggly when there was such resistance to it.

Whatever floats your boat, though. If you don't want to believe that having local lads on the team will bring more supporters, if your arena isn't already full, then be my guest. It's not actually important to me that you are aware of the fact.

Titles obviously brings more money but if you lack fan loyalty, it's a commonly known strategy here. I don't really know much about how sports franchises in USA does it, and how loyal the fans are, but until the mid 90's we didn't have particularly many foreigners in our clubs in Europe, and there were usually several local lads in almost every club. So that might have something to do with it, as the 90s aren't really that long ago.

Yeah, I'm having a different set of views than you on my culture, so logically I'm a troll.

You provide nothing really to the form other than antagonistic comments.

You post to the Arsenal thread, for no apparent reason other than to stir the pot.

Don't act naive--or bother responding to this.

You're obviously in such a mood that any post would "stir" your pot. I did not post antagonistic in the Arsenal thread.

EDIT: If I had posted a video of Spurs-fans taunting Arsenal you might have had a case. I posted a video from ArsenalFanTV and an interview with the majority share holder of Arsenal, Kroenke.

Just sort of a consequence of the modern game, particularly the Prem.

Part of the reason the Prem is so big and popular is because of all the foreign stars. People don’t really want to watch an all-English 11 anymore. Without the influx of foreign stars maybe the Prem never gets big, and Serie A or La Liga is the most popular league in the world.

Also, I think the term “local lad” is used too often, it doesn’t really mean the same thing anymore. Most of the time nowadays, a local lad is basically just an English player, especially with the bigger clubs. The phrase helps fans and media push certain narratives, but really a local lad should be a player who grew up in the immediate area and supported the team they are playing for.

Dele Alli didn’t grow up down the street from Harry Kane as a Spurs supporter, he’s from Milton Keynes, hell he didn’t even support a London team at all. Jack Wilshere is from Stevenage etc. Lots of English players get called local lads when they aren’t.

Anyway, I do actually understand wanting more English (especially local) players in the team and I’m fine with it. I only took exception to the Chelsea remark.
