Don't know, I'm trying to ask as a way to learn more.

But I'm speaking specifically to fouls in the box - would a team really risk taking fouls more with someone who isn't comfort taking the just versus not taking a foul at all?

Penalties are heavily in favor of the kicker, but there are players that make it look easier than it is, even Messi doesn't have a great record for penalties.

All the pressure is on the kicker, there are plenty of players who would get targeted for fouls because they are not pk specialists.
Thank you! This is really helpful for me. I know I've been asking what should be easy questions for a couple years now but I appreciate those of you who indulge me lol.

          Awesome so far.

This is kind of the thing I don't like about soccer, though... all of these imprecise bits of it. When the announcers say "How much time is even left?" and a player can throw in from basically anywhere he wants, it takes away that black-and-whiteness that other sports are so strict in maintaining, specifically American football.

That's just a general soccer complaint though.

I'll watch that gif of VVD absolutely clearing out the Argentina player in the 90th minute scuffle a lot of times today. Just beautiful.

Time is an ambiguous thing at times in soccer. It used to be that they wouldn't even put the added time on the screen, so you would really have zero clue.

A great day of football. Glad I was able to watch it all live.

Not a fan of deciding games by penalty but I can't deny the drama.

                    Entertaining, great day of football.

Emi Martinez is insane lmao, in every sense of the word.

That dance when he saved the second one LOL.

                        Very entertaining game.

Argentina was clearly the better team for about 80% of the match but the Netherlands threw that on its head in desperation time.

How much will the Dutch be talking about the officiating I wonder. There was Messi not getting carded, but more egregious to me was kicking the ball into the bench not getting carded

I love that lahoz will always make the game about him, lmao.

i don't even know why i found myself rooting against the dutch, but i did, and what an ending for me, and Emi Martinez. I always believed.

They were certainly among the favorites to win in Brazil, but so were Brazil. What happened in that match is Brazil flat-out quit like 15 minutes into the match. I've never seen anything like it on that stage, and nothing like it will ever been seen again.

It also has to be pointed out that Neymar was straight up assaulted by a Chilean player earlier in the tournament and had a broken back so couldn't play in the 7-1. I don't know if you recall the coverage around that time, but everyone acted like Neymar had passed away lmao

Final edit - Also, Brazil's captain this time around, Thiago, picked up a yellow card in the quarterfinals for one of the dumbest things. He tried to block the keeper by coming from behind when he was about to kick the ball dropping it from his hands. A textbook stupid yellow card that meant he was suspended for the semifinal for yellow accumulation. His replacement, Dante, sucked, and their defensive pairing of him and David Luiz was comically absent on most of Germany's goals.
That game is still one of the most astonishing experiences in my 20+ years watching sports.

Right. You look at the world cup historically, and there are basically four great powers. Germany, Italy, Brazil and Argentina. Heck, 2010 was the first final to not feature any of those teams.

Italy, despite winning Euros, has found a way to not qualify for the past two world cups, which is entirely bizarre. Germany has been poopty since winning the Confederation Cup in 2017 and they're still struggling to transition between generations.
