2023–2024 English Football Thread
It’s likely that I just don’t watch enough of any other league as I try and just watch random matches from as many as I can, but I swear, the…presence for lack of a better word that other officials have puts England to shame.
It might sound absurd, but I’m just throwing it out there, but Serie A referees seem so much more in control of matches. The continent seems to have less of a feeling of adults (players) yelling at children (referees).
Are the standards any better? Maybe not, but in my experience there seems to be less condescension from referees outside of England. In England it’s week after week of Manchester born white referees smiling at players and just happy to be part of the boys club.
As for the actual football, there’s time, but if Arsenal don’t turn it around they’ll be fighting for top four more than they should need to be. (Some day I’ll go more in depth regarding how they’re a shining example of just how long it can take to rebuild a side and how they’re an example of how it will take Man United a few years longer than they think is realistic to be actual contenders).
