I get the feeling MLS signed him to that deal so if he wants to transfer, the MLS can charge a lot for him.

I don't have any insider info, but I would assume that the extension is structured so that Donovan has some clearer 'out' clauses than he did in his previous deal. One of the more significant brakes on LD moving has always been that he's just much more valuable to MLS than he'd be to a European entity, a factor which would push a transfer fee higher than I think most European teams would find comfortable, especially because of his previous struggles at Leverkusen. Bruce, Leiweke, and Landon probably hammered out something that makes it more explicit what needs to happen for an outgoing deal to be agreed. In this case, I'd read 'explicit' as essentially 'easier for LD to get LA to agree to a deal, if he wants to move on.'

LA is probably banking on a new CBA making it easier to replace Donovan, too, should that day come. With the Beckham situation more or less calmed down, and with Bruce firmly in charge of an organization that's credible once again, I think LA is in a pretty good place right now and could cope reasonably well with a departure. The allocation money will help, obviously.

        No doubt.

I would just like to see him challenge himself. Because I think in the right situation he could excel overseas. I want Landon to succeed and to get the recognition he deserves. Thats not going to happen unless he leaves the MLS.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will spend up to £55m in the January transfer window to boost his side's title challenge, with £40m-rated Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero and Monaco midfielder Jerko Leko top of his wish list and Ajax forward Luis Suarez, Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi and Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell seen as back-up options.
Wow, that's one hell of a transfer strategy chelski has cooking if De Rossi is seen as a "back-up" option. I fancy him as one of the best deeper lying MF's in the world.

David Villa has expressed that he would be interested in joining a Premier League club.

I think the front runners are Arsenal & Manchester United. Though Arsene probably wouldn't want to shelled out the money, and United might not have the funds.

Which could mean City or Chelsea could come in and swoop the star away from them.

Im also very interested in what Birmingham will do in January.

Would hate to see them still in great form and have new guys come and shake things up.

Which would mean arguably Spain's best players (excluding Iker Casillas, Iniesta, maybe Xavi) will be playing club ball...in England.

                      Strange.

Supposedly Jo is on his way out of Everton and headed back to Moscow. Going back to Brazil for a NYE party was the last draw. They must really be tired of him considering their injury woes up front and Yak playing in the AN.

Shouldn't Jo go back to City? Or did Everton make the mistake of buying him from City?

He's still on loan from City, yes. He hasn't had his loan canceled, he's just been "suspended" from club activities at Everton.
