Well he only had a year left on his contract and was going to leave on a free next year. Once he picked Real, they didn't have much of a choice.

            Oh hell yeah.

Wish he went to Arsenal, but Madrid is the next best thing. They really needed a player like him, Madrid needed some more offensive in the center, they addressed that need in a big way.

Its not a bad signing at all as long as his wage demands are reasonable (which I doubt). He is still a pretty solid defender.

He just wants way too much money. Which no one has yet to be willing to give him.

At least Spurs aren't overpaying for only Englishmen now.

Another oft-injured old center back. Just what we needed! Although his Champs League experience could be valuable provided we you know... qualify...

Its a pretty good get if you can keep his wage bill down. Vermaelen got all the credit last year but Gallas was our most consistent defender.

He's certainly not the idea CB signing, that's for sure. What I don't understand is why we have such terrible fortune with this position. I mean just look at the cluster of signings over recent years at CB...

Woody- great player when fit, but when was the last time that happened?

Yonus Kaboul- signed, sold to Pompey after not getting much of a chance & then brought back last year....is he really ever going to be a first team CB?

Ricardo Rocha- he was a complete disaster & ended up being a reserve/practice player for 3 years

Bassong- Jury is still out on him. We spent a lot of money, and he's been decent scoring some big goals (debut against L'pool & goal last week against young boys)....but is he a legitimate first team CB?

Chimbonda- Really a FB but I recall him playing some matches in the center of defense a few years back. How many times are we going to sign this guy?

How bad could Gallas really be?
