    Re: The Transfer Thread

Sissohko played well but the role he was given should have been the role Pogba was given with Kante in there to provide balance. Matuidi was pretty average all tournament and Payet faded from a great group stage to getting pulled in the final after nearly an hour.

He's just entering his physical prime and hasn't touched his peak position ally BUT you don't play for Juve and under Conte for that long without a solid understanding of tactical awareness.

I'd also wait until United line up for real before trying to guess what formation they'll use.

Going by a single preseason match (vs Wigan), it would more likely be Carrick/Blind sitting in front of the defence and Pogba playing CM/B2B.

Lots of smoke with Pogba over the past day, but I'll just sit here and not get caught in the hype train (really hard to do).
Put it this way, after the Euros I'd rather spend £25/30m on Matuidi than £100m on Pogba.

Jokes on you we are going to spend 75m on Morata instead

I really hope this doesn't happen, it's not even because of the cost. Do we need him? Costa, Batshuayi, Traore, Abraham, Solanke. It's not even as if he's goal record is outstanding. It's pretty poor in reality. If he was a consistent 20+ a season goalscorer I would understand and be all for it but he's not.

The word is that that bid has been rejected. I guess we'll see what happens.

The wildcard I guess would be that he's not yet been a starter for a club. Pretty sure his goals per minute at Juve is actually pretty close to Costa, and the only reason he wasn't a starter at Juve is because he and Dybala both like to operate in the same spaces so they had to use Mandzukic to get a more diverse pairing.

That being said, Costa/Bats/Traore should be fine. Abraham isn't ready but if we are going with a 2 striker system I think Solanke would be fine as our 4th.

Different story though if buying Morata means Costa is leaving.

Pogba deal looks to be done. Let him walk for free. Sign him to world record transfer 4 years later. Don't want to hear a peep ever again out of United fans about spending.

                    Or Lukaku I guess.

Last year the board wouldn't give Jose £80m for Pogba (his price rose massively this past season). This year we are bidding £60m+ for Morata and Lukaku.

It's mind blowing that Arsenal won't open the wallet for a striker. What'd we spend last summer, about £15M on Céch?

Wenger just not believing in inflation apparently.

Glad we got Xhaka though, 34M on a position that wasn't even close to a need, but we can't fork out anything apparently for a striker. SMH...

Isn't Xhaka exactly what you needed though? Ramsey is literally your only CM.

                            Exactly

And it's not like Ramsey, Wilshire, Coq, etc... don't have injury history's.

Before being injured last season (and he hasn't been injury prone), Cazorla was the best CM on the team. Ramsey struggled while at CM and mainly played RM until Santi went down.

El Neny was purchased in January and now looks as if he will not get an opportunity to play after playing well in his first team opportunities.

Coquelin had a rough year last year, but he's still a good defensive mid when he has help.

Add in Jack (who will likely get injured) and a slew of other promising, young players, and you already have a very crowded midfield. Arsene isn't known to rotate very often as it is.

IMO, striker was/is a bigger need, and has been for quite some time.

Coq isn't a CM, Cazorla is injury prone and on the wrong side of 30, Wilshere might actually be allergic to health, and any other CM who isn't named Aaron Ramsey is not good enough for a team with title aspirations.

Arsenal have desperately needed 3 signings for years now; a 20+ goal striker, a top level keeper, and a top level CM that fits their system (ie; physically durable and aggressive while still being highly technically skilled). Xhaka was definitely needed.

Striker has been a huge problem, but you guys have needed a good CM just as badly.
