Re: The Transfer Thread
I get that lots of people hate City but the revisionism surrounding Sterling is getting mental.
The amount of pressure and all around nonsense that players have to deal with in England is completely out of control. It's no wonder England sees so much of their young talent fall flat.
Sterling at 18 was quite literally one of the best players in the league in his first full professional season. Imo he was only surpassed by Hazard in terms of how dangerous he was with the ball at his feet. He was often compared FAVORABLY to teenage Ronaldo, and his ceiling was (and still is) incredibly high. He's the most promising English player since Wilshere, and arguably the most promising since Rooney, and all anyone ever does is give him crap.
If any of these U21 starlets we've seen the past few years were worth big money, it was Sterling.Comment

Re: The Transfer Thread
The 2nd most dangerous player on the ball in the league that year? One of the most outrageous things I've heard you say, Brav.
Sterling gets the extreme treatment whenever someone talks about him. I think it's OK to say he's a good player, but maybe he wasn't worth that much. Though it's not like you can talk about City's transfer spend as though they're operating under the same restrictions as everyone else.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 07-27-2016, 09:32 AM.Comment

Re: The Transfer Thread
I just think the valuations (like Leon said) have changed drastically since Ronaldo left for Madrid.
But also like Brahvo said, in Higuain you're paying for guaranteed results. CR7, Bale, Suarez, Lewandoski, etc... were all proven players worth every euro that was shelled out for them.
I'm very intrigued to see how Sterling performs under Pep. His system is tailor-made for wingers and often requires little defensive cover for them allowing them to just focus on attack (granted he had some good ball-winners, a demanding press system, and an offense that was basically defensive in it's high possession approach). I'll give him this season as an adjustment period but he needs to start realizing that potential.Comment

Re: The Transfer Thread
I tweeted earlier I wish they would just break the bank for Aubameyang and Koulibaly. Would just be over the moon.

Also, I know what I said sounds outrageous, but it really isn't. Sterling that season would regularly pick up the ball in his own half and just dribble straight into the opposition box, like many times every game. He was one of the only players that actually scared me as an opposition fan.
Think of it a different way; at 18 years of age in his first full season as a professional, Sterling played an instrumental role in Liverpool nearly winning the league for the first time in almost 3 decades.Comment

If Auba leaves I'd imagine it would be for MadridComment

Re: The Transfer Thread
Transfer fees are just very inflated in general, so I'd still say that in a less inflated market Sterling would be worth a lot. Obviously in a market where Suarez goes for 75m, 50m for Sterling is too much, but if it were less inflated and Suarez was going for 50m, 30m or so for Sterling wouldn't seem nearly as bad.

Re: The Transfer Thread
Let's not dismiss Suarez's contributions to that team. No Suarez, no title run. He was literally devouring his opponents. Maybe not literally, but... ...actually yes. Literally.www.heyimbill.com | sports poster art and other cool stuffComment

Re: The Transfer Thread
You are forgetting that entire defenses were focusing on Suarez and Sturridge. Suarez was arguably the best player in the entire world for most of that season and made everyone on that team (other than the defense) so much better. Sterling might never enjoy that kind of space consistently again in his career.Comment
