    Re: The Transfer Thread

If there is any truth to Walker wanting out, then of course I want him to go. I think Trippier will improve enough under Poch (like all Poch's previous backs) that he will be a solid replacement. KWP is also a very promising future back.

I'd like to spend the money on bringing in more attacking players and a Dembele replacement since Dembele is reaching the end.

I'd say you guys should start stockpiling Dembeles but that would be a pretty expensive endeavor these days.

I agree that KWP is a promising back, but will he be a good enough cover in a CL season? I don't think so...

I do, if we get 40m for him. But we might have to upgrade Trippier if we do, he's weak in defense.
If Walker wants to go, it's a fantastic deal to get 40 million for him. That being said, I definitely don't think Trippier is good enough at RB on a Premier League contending team. Maybe he'll improve like you said, but I don't feel great about it. Luckily, we know Vertonghen and Alderweireld will be locking things down in the middle!

They haven't won the league since 2008 but when you are in a league with Bayern that's pretty understandable. Dortmund is a pretty obvious second choice, but after that most of the time it has been Wolfsburg. Schalke has a tendency to be rather unstable, Leverkusen usually has good teams but they are basically the Buli version of Tottenham.

RB is obviously brand new, but their financial backing could see them rise quickly to the level of Dortmund and possibly even further.

Wolfsburg is honestly probably the next best choice after those three, and Brooks will be a starter.
Gladbach has the money to be quality as well... not sure about Dieter Heckling long term though.

Leipzig making moves already. Sold David Selke to Hertha, brought in Konrad Laimer from RB Salzburg and Bruma from Galatasaray.

EDIT: Also added keeper Yvon Mvogo from BSC Young Boys.

The biggest loss with Walker would be his speed. Trippier is quick too, but unless he improves his defense a bit more he's going to get absolutely roasted by the first speedy, elite level winger he comes across.

Walker's speed can cover his defensive mistakes.

Early signing on a free transfer in a position we can improve on. I'll take it.

Particularly since he isn't making a lot of those anymore.

Anyway, something I haven't really considered much lately due to being overly happy with Spurs' performance this (and last) season, is that the quality of English top teams isn't really too much to brag about it seems. We'll see next year how they all fare in CL, but I fear not only Spurs will get mopped off the stadium against one of the top clubs from Germany, Spain and even Italy.

Liverpool didn't have European football to worry about, neither did Chelsea. Can't complain about Chelsea's league performance, though, but Liverpool without an extra tournament to worry about... that's pretty weak.

So if English clubs are going to tempt top talent to move there, they must pay up big time in terms of salary I think... and Spurs has made it clear they won't.

I think they get worn down by unfavorable schedules. Although on the flip side you could say that with all the money they generate they can afford to have deeper squads

Liverpool made money in the transfer market last year. What that meant is that they got rid of a lot of dead weight knowing they wouldn't be playing in Europe. The only thing they should've realized is that Mane would be going to ACN and had a better plan there (*cough loaningMarkovic cough*). I'd argue that given the number of games missed by key players as the season went on, and lack of depth that 4th place wasn't sad at all. When they were at full strength for the first half of the season they were running through basically everyone. Chelsea was on a record-breaking run and Liverpool were right behind them. I guess you could call 4th a bit of a disappointment the way the season started, but the season is 38 matches, not 19. Now they're going to spend all that sweet TV money to fill holes and push some starters from a pretty darn good side into depth roles. I'm personally happy with the way things are progressing under Klopp.

If we're being honest, Pool, United and Chelsea are the three English clubs you could always count on to show up in Europe.

United has been pretty poor since SAF but Jose will get them into the knockouts for sure.

I'd say Spurs are the most worrisome just because their CL performances are already not that great, plus they won't be at WHL.

City is a wildcard but with Pep getting the players he needs hey should theoretically be fine.

Imo the biggest "if" in that group is Tottenham, but I could see all 5 teams making it through the group stage unless someone gets monstrously hosed (like United could get Juve, Barca, and Dortmund I think).

And to add if Spurs aren't going to spend on salary - the strongest indicator of success historically - they are just being dumb.
