He's usually a centre back but played at left back because he was needed there. He also played as a defensive midfielder when he was breaking into the Chelsea team. At this point I'm not sure where his best position is but his height may count against him at centre half.

Re: The Transfer Thread
Probably, but if you want a ready-made starter, this is what you pay. I think he fits what Klopp wants. He'll run for days and can finish. Not an egregious overpayment.Comment

He'll be the best ever Senegelese player for Liverpool after the disastrous stints of Salif Diao and El hadji Diouf before even kicking a ball for us.Comment

Very much out of nowhere. Our track record with Marseille players suggests this is a good idea but who knows.Comment

The folks on Soccer Reddit that actually watch Ligue 1 didn't seem to think he was worth anywhere close to 40. I'm interested to see how it all plays out if Conte wants the two striker formation.SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

Re: The Transfer Thread
Only one way to find out. I've seen him a handful of times for club and country and he's an intriguing player. His lower half is built like a tank, kind of like Hazard's so he has some nice acceleration but we'll see if he get pushed off the ball in the stronger EPL. I know he'll get kicked a lot but he's not going to be asked to lead the line. More of a #2 striker offering pace that Diego doesn't have in abundance. We probably overpaid but it's the way of the world these days and we got it done early which is a plus. He scored on his first touch vs Hungary and a good showing in relief vs Wales and whoever their next opponent should be could have driven the price up even more.Comment

Re: The Transfer Thread
I mean, it's a gamble but when you have the money you might as well take the gamble? Monaco fans last summer were all saying Martial was wildly overrated. Half the footballing world was convinced Neymar would never make it in Europe.
They said we overpaid for Lampard rofl. People said he was only playing at West Ham because his uncle was the manager.
People are always so sure they can predict a player's future success before they ever kick a ball for their new team.
Hell, the first player we bought from Marseille was considered wildly overpriced, and a sign that Abramavich had no idea what he was doing. We got lambasted by the media for that purchase remember that?
Anyway, time will tell.Comment

Re: The Transfer Thread
It does feel as though the big teams are really stocking up this year, although maybe that's an annual occurrence and I haven't been watching long enough.

Re: The Transfer Thread
The flip side though, is that unlike previous seasons, the midtable clubs are able to buy players they never would have dreamed of before. Crystal Effing Palace look set to buy freaking Benteke, it's absolutely nuts.
It's definitely going to be an interesting seasonComment

Re: The Transfer Thread
Funny that almost every African descent striker that signs with Chelsea will be compared to Drogba, I know it always happens all the time but it be some annoying pressure for those players. Maybe he will be the next Batshuayi in the future.Comment
