2018-2019 NHL Stanley Cup PLAYOFFS Conference Finals PREVIEW...

May 4, 2019

We have reached the Stanley Cup Conference Finals! In the Western Conference Finals we will see the President's Trophy winning San Jose Sharks take on the St. Louis Blues. The Sharks swept the Minnesota Wild in the First Round, beat their Pacific Division Rivals, Anaheim Ducks in 6 Games in the Second Round and now must get past the Blues to reach the Stanley Cup Finals for the 2nd time in Franchise History. St. Louis was in 7th Place in the Central Division heading into the New Year. However the Blues scratched and clawed their way into a Wildcard spot and upset the Colorado Avalanche in 5 Games in the First Round. In the Second Round, the Blues outlasted the Nashville Predators in Six games. St. Louis could have their work cut out for them in a tough Series against the Sharks.

Prediction: Sharks in 6.

In the Eastern Conference Finals the Cinderella Story Toronto Maple Leafs will look to continue their fairy tale Season and make the Stanley Cup Finals. In the First Round, Toronto upset the Tampa Bay Lightning in Six Games. In the Second Round they completely shocked the Hockey World with a clean Sweep over the heavily favored Boston Bruins. Now the Maple Leafs will look to continue the fairy tale in the Conference Finals when they meet the defending Champions, Washington Capitals. Washington eliminated the Columbus Blue Jackets for the Second year in a row in 6 Games in the First Round. In the Second Round, the Caps beat the New York Rangers in Six. We see midnight striking soon on Toronto.

Prediction: Capitals in 6.

SHARKS rally from 4 Goals down to win Game One 7-6 in Overtime in Western Conference Finals over BLUES..

RECAP 5/5/19
Western Conference Finals
Game One

San Jose, CA- In Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals, the San Jose Sharks got a first hand look at just how good the St. Louis Blues have been in the Playoffs.

"I mean to be technical, St. Louis deserves to be here just like we do. They beat Colorado who was one of the best Teams in the league this year. In the last round they knocked out Nashville. Thats 2 Division opponents they beat in the Playoffs to get here. It's going to be a hard fought Series that's for sure." Sharks Head Coach Peter DeBoer stated.

The Blues jumped out to a 3-0 lead as San Jose found themselves down by 3 Goals in just the First Period.

"They jumped all over us from the start. We knew if we didn't stay with them it was gonna be a long Game." Sharks Captain Joe Pavelski stated.

Wanting to give Martin Jones some rest after a grueling Series with the Ducks, San Jose went with Backup Goalie Joey Backstrom for Game 1.

It was a disaster.

Backstrom allowed all Six Goals on just 14 shots as the Blues jumped all over the Rookie Goalie.

Down 6-2 midway through the Second Period, San Jose was back on the board with a Tomas Hertl Goal. Backstrom was pulled to start the Third Period for Martin Jones. Jones came in and didn't allow a single Goal as San Jose mounted a Comeback down 3 Goals to force Overtime.

In Overtime, the Sharks completed the epic Comeback when Rookie Tyler Adams found fellow Rookie Justin Callahan for the Game Winner just 1:41 Seconds in that sent the fans inside the SAP Center into a frenzy.

Blues Vladimir Taresenko had Four Goals as Sharks Tomas Hertl had a Hat Trick of his own to help with the epic Comeback.

"Up 4 Goals and they tie and win it. That's the thing about San Jose they don't quit. They've been that way all year." Blues Head Coach Mike Yeo stated.

Blues Goalie Robin Lehner had 32 Saves but allowed all 7 Goals including the Overtime Winner.

Sharks Defenseman Brenden Dillon's slapshot tied the Game at 6 a piece with just 33 Seconds left in the game.

Game Two is set for Tuesday Night inside the SAP Center.

BLUES even up Series in Double Overtime 3-2 over SHARKS..

RECAP 5/7/19
Western Conference Finals
Game Two

San Jose, CA- The St. Louis Blues have tied the Western Conference Finals at a Game a piece as we now head to St. Louis.

David Perron and Oskar Sundqvist both scored for the Blues as Goalie Robin Lehner made 18 Saves as the Sharks struggled to get shots on Goal.

"He's a really good Goalie. You're not gonna score on him very much." Sharks Head Coach Peter DeBoer stated.

With the Score tied at 0 in the Second Period, the Sharks got on the board with Joe Thornton's 2nd Playoff Goal.

But then the Blues came roaring back with 2 straight unanswered Goals. Goalie Martin Jones had 39 Saves as #31 tried his best to give the Sharks a chance.

"We had chances just couldn't get the job done. I like the way we're playing on the ice but now we head to St. Louis so we have to be ready for Games 3 and 4." DeBoer added.

Sharks Captain Joe Pavelski tied it up at 2 late in the Third Period.

"That's a really good Hockey Team on the ice. They don't quit and you have to go right at them to try and win. We go home for Games 3 and 4 and we need to use that momentum to keep going." Blues Head Coach Mike Yeo stated.

The Game went into Double Overtime where David Perron's Game Winner tied the Series for the Blues.

Game 3 will be Thursday Night in St. Louis.

BLUES shutout SHARKS 4-0 in Game 3 of Western Conference Finals..

RECAP 5/9/19
Western Conference Finals
Game Three

St. Louis, MO- After splitting the first 2 Games in San Jose, the Western Conference Finals moved to St. Louis where the Blues absolutely dominated Game 3 with a 4-0 Shutout over the San Jose Sharks.

"We needed a Win tonight to take control of the Series. We have the momentum on our side and we need to keep that rolling into Game Four. San Jose is a really tough Team and they can easily bounce back next Game. We need to make sure that doesn't happen." Blues Head Coach Mike Yeo stated.

"Game Four is crucial for us. Either we tie the Series or we put ourselves in a hole. St. Louis is really showing why they're here." Sharks Head Coach Peter DeBoer stated.

Blues Goalie Robin Lehner was an absolute brick wall turning away 23 shots as the Sharks were shutout inside the Enterprise Center.

Sharks Netminder Martin Jones had 31 Saves but allowed all 4 Goals as the Blues had Goals by Robby Fabri, Tyler Bozak, David Perron, and Tom Kuhnhackl.

Game 3 came at a cost for St. Louis as the Blues lost both Patrick Maroon and Ryan O'Reilly to injuries.

Maroon broke his nose and is out until May 20 which means he will miss the rest of the Conference Finals. O'Reilly suffered a mild Concussion and is out until May 17. Game 7 if the Series goes that far.

Game Four is Saturday Night inside the Enterprise Center..
