Besides the auction house, how would I get bronze and silver badges?

You can either complete certain sets or play solo challenges to unlock badge packs

I've completed the coach, uniform, and stadium sets a few times. They are each good for a 4 badge pack and those cards can gotten relatively easy if you are patient in the auction house.

Yeah, the best value is to do Coaches/Stadiums over and over. Silver Teams too when you can find some of the players cheap or already have some.

My son did the skills trainer and each set completed he got a card pack. Each of them seemed to have a badge in it as well. Haven't finished the Gauntlet yet to know if/what that reward might be.
