Letter 'C' Over the DB?

Perhaps the answer is so simple that I'm overlooking it, but am wondering:

Every so often when I'm on offense, there appears to be a 'C' contained in a small triangle right above a defender, usually a DB or LB.

What does this signify?

The letter C stands for captain...that means they are the captain of the Defense I believe...I could be wrong.

I thought it might be that too, but then I was like "why are they telling me this guy is a captain all of a sudden?"

That is wrong. Just like the r on option plays you are supposed to read them as a potential Blitzer. They had this I'm ncaa last year a little.

This is signifying that is the player your RB will block if the other teams LB/DB is going to blitz.

If the LB/CB does not blitz and goes into a zone block, your RB will run and try to get open for a pass instead of blocking for your QB.

It's kind of like an option to block or run to get open. And what your RB will do depends on what that LB/DB with "c" above him does.

I think "c" just means coverage/covered...

It's the guy responsible for the player running a check and release route. Usually the rb/fb or Te. If he blitzes they stay in to block. If not he runs his route. I thick c stands for check but idk for sure.

yeah, basically if that guy blitzes, the running back will stay in to block, if he drops into coverage the back will run his route.
