Re: whosnext00's Madden 2013 Slider for Realistic Gameplay and Stats

I'm going to be doing an overhaul based on Game Speed and Threshold since I think that's where sliders should start anyway. So here are my results and I'll be using Slow as it was the most accurate, even if by only a millisecond or two.

After testing for a few hours, holding the controller in one hand and a timer in the other, I've determined the following Game Speeds and Thresholds work the best.

I test a number of receivers and other players but mostly Julio Jones and Chase Coffman on a 40 yard sprint for a large disparity.

Julio Jones 40 is 4.39 sec
Chase Coffman 40 is 4.76 sec

Very Slow: 100 - You will not get a realistic speed as the fastest Julio jones will run a 40 is 5.1

Slow: 65 - The sweet spot. After many tests on each replay, Jones was 4.4, some 4.3 sec and Coffman was 4.8 sec, some 4.7.

Normal: 16 - Many tests gave Coffman a 4.8 sec time with Jones at 4.2. 17 doesn't help, it's the closest I could get.

Fast: 0 - Coffman got a 4.7 and Jones with a 4.2, sometimes 4.1

Very Fast: 0 - Does not give a realistic experience.

I hope these tests help as I did them to help you guys out based on the speed you like to play on. It seems that Slow - Fast are the most realistic and the others just aren't.

Slow seemed to be the only setting that could get exact to the real 40 times as Jones with 4.4 and a couple 4.3 is closest to 4.39

You might be surprised to hear that Julio Jones would run a 4.9 or 5 at 0 threshold on Slow and Normal, I was freaked since I always believed in 0 Thresh but now that I've actually done the testing and it's been repeatable, I'm shocked to find that 65 for Slow and 16 for Normal are the best options.

These can go one or two points up or down but honestly they do not need any more than that. I put in a lot of time just to get the speed down perfect as I possibly could.

Enjoy

So you're making a new set? I liked the ones you had, though. Looking forward.

If you're completely re-doing the sliders, I hope you are able to maintain the theory and mindset the set was created with. This was what originally sparked my interest in this slider set

Having said that, one universal critique from pretty much every tester has been the high number of break tackles. Hopefully you can make adjustments to minimize this in the new set

I agree, I'll play on the speed threshold you recommended and keep playing, I just finished up the Ravens game, which was the first game I went into with identical sliders, and once again they didn't disappoint.

The Ravens really gave me some trouble on offense, despite the 34 points. I wasn't really able to get my passing game going consistently. Although my running game was good, we lost two fumbles which really hurt. Scoring right before the half, and returning the opening kickoff of the second half won me the game. The Ravens had all the momentum, about to go up with a 17-10 point at half time, then I drove down and scored after getting the ball with under 2 minuets left, then of course the kick return. That was the only drive Brady could really get going, Suggs was in his face the whole game.

Oh and I forgot to put it in the game log, but Pollard, Lewis and Suggs all forced fumbles.

I can leave the set up for you and I'll continue to edit it. I'm adding a new set because I want to focus on everything individually like I did the Speed and Threshold. Actually, the set will probably remain the same for the most part but my Thresh will reflect what I found in testing, so 65 and Slow. Whatever I need to change from there, that's what I'll do.

Looks great. So this is using the latest set? Coach mode or no?

Let me know how the sliders work with the new Tresh of 65 on Slow Gamespeed. I can't do it right now as I'm away but would love to hear some results.

Note: The thresh won't be altered around the sliders, the sliders will be altered around the thresh and game speed.

These are not coach mode, and I made a few minor adjustments to the sliders which I posted in the game vs the Cardinals on the last page. I'm starting week 4 vs Buffalo now, should be high scoring. Fitz and Brady are 1/2 in PTDs so far. And Spiller and Jackson both are averaging 6+ a carry, should be fun.

There was a thread about NFL Gamespeed comparison and most agreed that slow gives the closest resemblance to an NFL game and 60-65 Threshold was optimal for realistic player speeds. The reason Normal isnt the most realistic is because of the Juiced player speeds and acceleration.

So this goes to show that your dedicated to making a true NFL experience which is what we need.

Also i would like to chime in with the WR catch. I think 40-45 would be great simply because it will force you to use certain players in certain situations. Heres a general idea i discussed with Jarrod In NCAA:

Why dont we lower the catch slider to make roles of receivers more vital? Instead of having the slider at 50+ we should have it at 35-45. My reasoning is that this way guys like Wes Welker will shine on crucial 3rd downs and you wont just hit matthew slater across the middle anytime you want.

By lowering the catch slider you essentially make ratings matter even more because certain players will be good at certain things while others wont. Desean Jackson will not be your guy you look for over the middle on a consistent basis and guys like Boldin and Bowe will be more vital for there offenses success.

With a 50+ it seems each WR is hard to differentiate from one another and all of their skill sets are the same. Guys like Desean Jackson will have more specified roles and you wont see him having 8-10 catches for 110 yarrds but more like 3-4 for 120 which will make his Yards per reception more realistic.

This is the WR Breakdown:

Deep Threat: Guys that are burners and pick up big yardage from deep throws. These guys are typically weak catchers in traffic and are mostly used to stretch the defense. EX. Desean Jackson, Ted Ginn JR, Randy Moss, Devin Hester, Mike Wallace.

Possession Catchers: These guys are typically average speed receivers that are used for getting tough catches over the middle while being hit hard. These are the most reliable receivers on 3rd and 4th downs. EX. Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin, Dwyane Bowe, Marques Colston, Wes Welker.

Balanced: These receivers are fast enough to burn the secondary and make the tough catch over the middle. EX. Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson, Hakeem Nicks, Percy Harvin, Julio Jones, Roddy White.

This is basically the 3 categories of receivers generally. So in order to separate them and make each one feel unique, we need to first lower the catch slider in order to make their ratings stick out. The difference between a 99 Catch in traffic and a 75 Catch in Traffic should be huge.

38 will make this extremely visible and you will avoid throwing to receivers that you know wont hang on to the pass simply because they are not that type of player. For speedsters you will have to design screens, Drags and Posts and streak routes to get them involved. Desean Jackson should be used for yards after catch and deep shots down the field for the majority of the time and if he does make a catch over the middle then thats a bonus.

This will make gameplanning to get your big play makers involved more difficult because you cant simply throw it to them anytime you want but now you will have to get them in the right situations.

I will test my findings and share but i think the WR catch lowered can really separate the WR categories.
