It came down to the one you bought and the 50" Sony LCD. I got the Sony as I was afraid there were too many moving parts that can go hay wire (moving mirrors and color wheels spinning ferociously). Very happy and the wife was happy.

[quote=USF11]Here is the 61'' Samsung Specs I bought for about 3k at Circuit City right before the super bowl this year. It supports 480p 720p and 1080i it also acts as a computer monitor and has HDMI and DVI. The bulb which last around 30,000 hours costs about $300 to replace peanuts when you consider you have to replace almost the entire cost of the TV with a plasma. Sony LCD TV's are rated a little better in this product class but they are almost $1000 more expensive. The rainbow effect is so overblown usually by people who paid way to much for a plasma. No burn in with DLP and finally the black levels have been dramatically improved with DLP's. Samsung also signed a partnership with Microsoft to be the official HDTV of the XBOX if it helps.QUOTE]

I just bought a 42" Panasonic Plasma and i think all the TV's are great for gaming so please dont bash a certain TV because you have a different kind.

Now I understand that people might complain about the whole uhhh ohhh phrase "burn-in"!!! It is definately not as big as an issue as it was, especially with the newest plasmas and you almost have to leave your set on for 12 hours straight now.

Also i dont think a plasma TV last 30,000 hours.... The newer plasmas have a half life of around 60,000 so please look up your information before you speak.

Now on a personal note:
I love DLP too, my neighbor just bought a 61" sony DLP and its great. It was the same price as my 42" plasma and i think we are both happier than ever. His TV has size over mine, but mine has a little better picture quality than his. Its just all in the eye of the beholder. His picture is still awesome, dont get me wrong.

If you want a TV mostly for games Id suggest you go with a DLP or LCD, which most of you want it for.... just an honest opinion.

Thx for your time

I'm getting a 37-42inch plasma this fall to celebrate the 360's release!! Might even go the ED route to save 1,000-2,000.. I read that its hard to tell the difference in PQ between a HDTV & a EDTV at a viewing distance of 7-8 feet. ED plasma usually have better blacks, look better with standard cable, & with PS DVD players since theres no scaling the 480p signal.

Yeah another plus about the ED TV is that supposedlly for sports events in HD they look about the same... but i really dont know.

I went with the HD route and think its amazing, but it might be worth it so save a 1,000.

Also check out www.plasmatvbuyingguide.com its a great website with lots of information for you to check out. Panasonic just released their newest models also, so you should check that out too.

Good luck with your TV, also buying the television online could save you a $500-$1000 but your putting your trust in the internet.

Good Luck again! I couldnt be happier

Edit: If it matters to you what model i got here it is, Panasonic TH-42PX50U

YOu can use two connections for that sony..component inputs or a dvi2hdmi connector....that goes from the pc to the tv. hdmi is actually a tad better then dvi as well. Though using a [dvi to hdmi converter] plug might just make it more like dvi in quality then hdmi. Honestly..its hard to tell the diffrence between dvi and hdmi as both are totally uncompressed video inputs. The only real diffrence is dvi is like 8bit and hdmi uses 10bit or something like that, i forget. Also the hdmi carries both video/audio in one while dvi dont.

If you want to learn more about the Sony 34 inch Kd-34xbr960 - go here http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=408146

As i said..if 34 inch wide screen is big enough for your liking...this tv is bar none the absolute best picture quality money can buy for an hdtv.

Also some people at avs forums have their home theater pc's connected to the tv and say it looks awesome surfing the net on that sony tv.
