I am at work and heave been reading reviews and impressions... and I have a quick question

If passing to the back out of the back field if you don't use the cone can you still complete the pass as normal.

Yeah, it seemed to work kinda well in practice mode at the EB Games, but I suppose you'd have to play the game for longer than 10 minutes to tell you any sort of definite answer. But I gave you something, which is better than nothing.
