Franchise Tag

Under what circumstances should I place a franchise tag on a player. I know I should do it if he doesn't want to resign with me but are there other instances when it would be a good idea to tag a player?

If you believed you wanted to keep the player for good or for a long time, you might as well tag him as the leader of your team. Lock him to long term deals and such. But he must have a good rating because the higher his rating is, the better the morale of the team. I don't know, I noticed when I tag a created player with lower rating as the leader, players morale is very low, and they can't wait to get out of there. Some of them. But when I tag a higher rated player, my starters are happy as hell.

If it's going to be cheaper than signing him to a deal or if you want to tag and trade the player. The franchise tag has no signing bonus so trading them won't cost you anything.

During the offseason resign players period, when bringing up the player options like resigning, editing, etc. there is apply franchise tag.
