I beg to differ.

Please tell me how many people you think would be willing to buy a football game without the nfl license? Of course I'm going to be first in line for 2k8 but not too many people played it when it had the license, I don't see anyone outside of the internet clamoring for an unlicensed game.

i think enough people will pick it up out of curiousity of what it is and what it is like, but i dont think madden will lose a significant amount of purchases over it, i think most will either pick up just madden or both games, atleast thats what i will be doing...

As far as this year I don't think EA is worried about 2k8. With the game 2 years out of the market and only the hardcore 2k gamers downloading and creating updated rosters, most people are up on Madden anyway. But the 2009 games will be the real test. If 2k8 does well and takes a good amount of market share away from EA, you will definitely see EA make changes to the game and it will be more than roster updates. How much of a change is anyone's guess.

I don't believe the release of All-Pro 2K8 has to do with trying to topple Madden. I don't believe the game is expected to outsell Madden. I do believe 2K Sports wants to become the choice for sports gamers, and I think they are in a great position to do so.

It's my opinion that 2K Sports is trying to build their brand. They will have NBA 2K7, and its success to build on here. In March they release what looks to be an impressive game in MLB 2K7. That will generate hype about 2K Sports. Come summer, they drop All-Pro 2K8 (the game made by the same guys that make NBA 2K7, MLB 2K7). It's all about building buzz for the name that is 2K Sports. Now, if MLB 2K7 flops, then the challenge becomes bigger.

I know people will most likely smirk at 2K's attempt at a non-NFL game, and I'm sure you'll get people poking fun at it as they walk out of the store with their copy of Madden. However, if Madden is again as shallow as it was this past year, and All-Pro does things that are truly "next-gen," then I'd say it'll accomplish what 2K wants, which is build buzz for their brand.

From there, 2K can release their Boxing game and get ready for NBA 2K8 and NHL 2K8.

It won't be a real test until 2K get back into the license game..

this is all very true, there's no way 2K comes out expecting to come near the sales of madden, but what they can do is put there name out there so they can come near EA, if u look at the sports gaming industry the only thing EA has for them is Madden(due to the long history and NFL license) as well as Fight Night(due to it being the only decent boxing game on the market. Besides thats NBA Live fell of the market in 06 possibly even 05, NHL 2K has out sold EA's NHL the past 2 years, Ea's is on the decline, and by the time the NFL license is available again, 2K will be ready to throw the final blow. I'm also curious as to why 2K doesnt mess around with NCAA football, anybody know anything on that?

EA has the rights to NCAA football.

Also, 2K (SegaSports) did have a college game way back when and it was terrible.
