Basically. If a game has to copy another game to be good why should we care? We benefit. The developers should be worried about things like that.

If that's the case then they'll never be credible. It's virtually impossible for them to be credible in your scenario. Videogame journalism can't survive without game advertisements. It's different than say ESPN or SI, because they can't really advertise "sports" per se.
